Chapter 6: Beginner Village

I'm going back to Beginner Village, my feet crunching the leaves on the ground as I set off running. The morning casting the sky with a bright yellow sunrise. And then I see straw huts in the distance and new players heading out.

They look at me in curiosity. My glistening armor stands out among their ragged cloth ones. A high level character visiting a humble village… they must be wondering why on Earth I'm here.

But I know my purpose… and I thrust my legs to run faster.

The hustle and bustle of the village greet me at the gate. NPCs selling wares, giving quests, storing materials… I look around in a rush, ignoring the others. There's only one NPC I'm looking for and there he is! Standing hidden in an alley is a wise man in a silken blue robe. I approach and click on him.

"Good morning! It's a pleasant day!" He greets me. "Ready to embark on a new journey in Glory?"

Those may be pre-programmed lines, but they hit home. Yes. I'm ready for this new chapter.

The NPC gives me a run down of all the classes in Glory. I need to pick on one. It really wouldn't matter what I chose. But then, Ye Xiu's voice filled my head, "Start on where you're best at."

Okay… here we go. I scroll down further until I click on the class of my forte, the one that I breathed my soul into during battles.

"Ah! A Battle Mage of heart." The NPC replied. He nods his head in approval, the smile on his face giving me confidence. It's as if he's proud of me and my choice even before I start on it. A notification then appears on my screen...

'Start Class Change Quest for Battle Mage?'

'Accept… Decline'

Accept.

A flash of light, then a quest list appears at the right side of my screen. I'm ready for Desert Storm to be a Battle Mage.

I leave the village right away, heading for the first task on the list. Then, a ping catches my attention.

'You received a gift from Desert Rose.'

My mother. I open the message and my heart bursts with joy! I stop running for a moment to enlarge the box to my screen.

Inside it is a Silver grade weapon. It rotates around, sending a luster of gleam around it. And its name… Spear of Light. A weapon that I can use both as a melee spear and as a scepter for magic. Incredible! This is specially designed for an Unspecialized character. It is perfect for me.

I read the message below it…

"Keep this until you're ready. I'm rooting for you. Better start hunting for those upgrades!"

A smile slowly blooms on my face. Looks like I will never be alone in Glory after all. Never was. Maybe one day, I can have a go applying for Sacrosanct Lair again, or maybe become an Unspecialized professional like Ye Xiu. But for now, I'm off to master all the classes first, no matter how long it takes.

And then, I hear my mom's voice...

"Dorian, breakfast is ready!"

And there's also real life, also important like Glory. I log out of the game and said aloud, "Coming, mom!"
