The Runaway

He ran his fingers through his blue and silver hair, and sighed. All he had was his backpack on his back, filled with his schoolbooks and some clothes though not many. He didn't know where to go now. Somehow his parents found out he loved men, and threatened to send him off to a reform camp. But he was confused how they even found out. Sure he went to an all boys middle and high school, but he kept it quiet, even so far as fighting the rumors that spread about him.
His parents had always wanted a child, but when they couldn't have one, they ended up adopting him, an elemental child. At first, they didn't mind the feminine aesthetic he had, as many kids sort of had one. But once he got into middle school, it became harder for him, as they tried to hide that which distinguished him as an elemental. Perhaps that was why people accused him of being gay. The whole, 'You're trying to hard,' philosophy. But it wasn't his choice! He was the one born an Elemental, and he was the one whose parents hated his Elemental self. Damned humans.
Someone came up to him and flicked his wings that were folded neatly against his back. 'Trys… what are you doing wandering the rainy streets of Nephtalia at night? And with nothing but a heavy backpack. School ended hours ago, didn't it?'
'Sure. But I'm running away from home.'
'Uh, couldn't you wait until morning? You know this is the time of the nightdwellers.'
'Night dwellers like you?' Trys smirked at his friend, who was a schoolmate two years ahead of him.
'Hey I'm still a teen, I can be outdone too.' He then put his arms around his shoulders, 'So why you running like a scared rabbit?'
'My parents want to send me to a different 'school'.'
'Somehow I get the impression that school isn't meant as the typical type of school in that sentence.'
'Nope, "The School for Re-educating Lost Children back to the Light" or some long shit title like that. My parents found out somehow about my potentially being gay, and want to fix me.'
'Even if you were, there's nothing to fix! So what if you like men!' His friend folded his arms and shook out his purplish blue hair, and looked completely irate.
'Dominic--'
'Uh oh, I don't like the tone with which you said my name… And my full first name at that.'
'The thing is…' Trystan lowered his voice and whispered, 'I do like men.'
Dominic nodded. 'Again, so what? That doesn't change a damn thing, you are still a person.' He then grabbed his friend by the hand and started dragging him down the street, much like an excited dog leads his master through a park.
'Wait!!!! Where we going?!'
'You'll see!'
'DOM!'
But Dominic didn't let go. Eventually they got to a part of the city that Trystan had never been to. It was a district that remained apart from the rest of the city, and it seemed like there were so many different types of people that would in his parents minds be suited for the reform camps. He was fascinated in particular by a man dressed as a woman (though he didn't know it was a man).
Dom smirked as he noticed who Trystan was looking at. 'You have an uncanny knack for eyeing the exact people I want to introduce you too. That's Tracy. He's a dancer that was raised female, but actually male. He's also very much gay. I call him Mother.'
'What? Why?'
Just then the Tracy character appeared, his silver skirt that matched his silver hair flowing in the wind, the soft green peasant blouse only serving to accentuate the mystical air about him. 'Because, this is mine and my twin brother's turf. We care for the ones who are seeking refuge.' He then looked at Dom, 'So Dom, who is your cute friend here?'
'This is Trystan. He's the one I told you about who has to fight to calm down the rumors at school to keep himself safe.'
Trystan looked at Dom, 'So wait, why are you here Dom? How do you know about this?'
Dom rubbed the back of his neck. 'Because I am gay too. Just no one messes with me because I don't "look gay".'
Trystan frowned. 'I'm jealous.'
Tracy shook his head, 'It's all right sweetheart. You are not at fault. Nor are your looks. It's the fault of people who refuse to see that there is beauty in being different.' He took Trystan by the hand and said, 'Let us find a place for you to sleep. Judging by your appearance you're running away.'
'He is. His parents found out somehow. I suspect the principal of our school told them about his constantly getting into fights,' Dom said quietly.
'That principal of yours is a damn pest. I wil--'
'Murder is not the way to solve things, Tracy, haven't our parents drilled that into your head enough?' Another silver haired man said appearing out of nowhere.
'Trust me, I know, but it doesn't mean the urge doesn't come up.'
'Speaking of which, the whole troop is showing up in the next couple of days. So you better clean your room or Mom will flip a lid.'
Tracy grumbled. 'Fine… but then these two are in your care.'
August nodded then bowed to the boys as Tracy disappeared. 'I'm August. I know Dominic, but what is your name, dear Elemental?'
'Trystan.'
'Family name? Age? Year in school?'
'Hayes, 16, first year high school student.'
'You have your student card with you?'
'Yes.'
'Perfect, that should be all we need to get you a place to stay here. Then we'll decide what to do next after you get some rest. Oh… wait, you don't have any lover do you?'
Trystan shook his head. 'Dom is my only friend.'

So begins the life of Trystan - he is sixteen and gay. How will his life change?
