Chapter 97: Being Targeted

Chapter 97: Being Targeted

Elena had no idea that someone was already targeting her as she wandered aimlessly through the islands.

"My dear aunt! What's so interesting here? Let's head to islands 30 to 40. They're much more fun!"

Charlotte kept talking to Elena, trying to prevent her from encountering any danger.

In truth, with Charlotte around, it would be nearly impossible for Elena to fall into danger. What Charlotte feared most, however, was Elena being frightened.

The baby in Elena's belly was now nearly two months old, and any kind of shock at this time could be catastrophic. If she had a miscarriage, Charlotte would lose his mind.

When it came to family, Charlotte never joked about the safety of his wife and unborn child.

"Humph!"

Elena snorted, clearly upset with Charlotte.

She wasn't allowed to stay in certain places, but she insisted on staying there anyway, leaving Charlotte at his wit's end. He had no choice but to follow behind her, protecting her as she moved from one place to another.

To make matters worse, Elena seemed drawn to danger. After visiting Island No. 8, she moved on to Island No. 7. Then, she became interested in Island No. 1.

No matter how Charlotte tried to persuade her, Elena would just snort coldly in response.

This infuriated Charlotte.

"That's enough! Stop being so stubborn! Don't you realize how dangerous this place is? It's not somewhere you should be!" Charlotte finally snapped, stopping Elena and speaking in a low, stern voice.

"Dangerous? Of course, I know that. Where? Where's the danger?" Elena retorted with a defiant expression, ignoring Charlotte entirely as she walked toward Island No. 1.

Charlotte could only watch her figure helplessly. He couldn't force her to go back. The last time he tried, it had taken a monumental effort to calm her down. He didn't want to risk another scene—especially with her being pregnant.

Paul and Isaac, who usually accompanied Charlotte, had already been sent to deal with some shady characters lurking nearby.

When Elena finally stepped onto Island No. 1, Charlotte resigned himself to following her. He realized that keeping a low profile was no longer an option. If that was the case, he'd accompany her and be ready for anything.

He had already made arrangements for a coating engineer, just in case. Even if the Navy surrounded them, he wasn't afraid.

With that thought, Charlotte stopped concealing his identity. He tore off his fake beard and removed his hat, stepping confidently beside Elena.

"Hey! Why aren't you wearing your bamboo hat?" Elena asked, puzzled by his change in demeanor.

"If you want to have fun so badly, I'll play along," Charlotte replied lightly, walking ahead.

Elena, confused but intrigued, quickly followed him.

The pair walking down the streets of Island No. 1 instantly caught everyone's attention. Charlotte's striking appearance, with a sharp and confident expression, and Elena's glowing maternal aura, turned heads.

The looks they received were varied—some envious, some curious, and others filled with malice. Charlotte noted it all with a cold gaze.

Meanwhile, Elena was absorbed in the sights around her. Born on the quiet island of Askaka, the bustling Chabaody Archipelago dazzled her. She wandered around, stopping at stalls and using the money she'd taken from Charlotte's room to pay for things that caught her interest.

Charlotte was speechless. She used his things, ate his food, spent his money, and slept in his bed, yet still treated him coldly. And he had to endure it.

"If it weren't for the baby in her belly, would I really have to humble myself like this?" he thought angrily.

Charlotte's frustration simmered. He found himself wishing for a few unfortunate thugs to appear, just so he could vent.

"Quick! Inform the Navy Headquarters that the Blood Swordsman Rockefeller has been spotted on Island No. 1 of the Sabaody Archipelago!"

Unbeknownst to Charlotte, their conspicuous presence had already attracted the attention of the Navy—or rather, the CP operatives stationed in the area to gather intelligence for the World Government.

As the intelligence reached its destination, chaos ensued.

Bang!

"What did you say? Charlotte has appeared in the Sabaody Archipelago?"

The news enraged Admiral Kong.

"Damn it! The Navy's forces are scattered across the Four Seas. Even Garp is in the New World. We don't have a single available combat force to send!"

Kong's frustration boiled over, and the reality of the situation left him feeling powerless.

He slammed his fist on the table, glaring at the messenger. "Monitor the Sabaody Archipelago closely. Report to me immediately if there's any incident!"

"Yes, sir!"

The messenger saluted and retreated quickly, relieved to escape Kong's fury.

Outside the office, the messenger sighed. Delivering news to the Admiral was a nerve-wracking task. He resolved to request a transfer as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, back on Island No. 1, Charlotte and Elena continued to stroll leisurely, oblivious to the chaos their presence had caused.

Occasionally, someone would glance at them in amazement, only to quickly lower their gaze.

"So boring!" Elena finally complained after wandering around for a while.

Charlotte chuckled. "The real fun in the Chabaody Archipelago is between islands 30 and 49. Those islands are the most exciting."

Elena frowned and glared at him. "I didn't ask for your opinion!" she snapped, placing her hands on her hips before heading toward the islands he mentioned.

Although she feigned reluctance, her actions betrayed her interest, prompting Charlotte to smile.

As the pair made their way toward Island No. 30, they continued to draw attention.

"Boss! They're leaving Island No. 1!"

A group of slave traders, who had been watching them since they arrived, saw this as their last opportunity. Once the pair reached Island No. 30, where naval patrols were stationed, capturing them would become impossible.

The traders prepared to make their move.
