Chapter 64: Old people are stupidly strong

_______

-Max POV-

Under the excuse that Sharlia was bratty enough to request me to go and buy ice cream and other things, I had to postpone my meeting with the Fleet Admiral. The marines sent to escort me were too afraid to do anything about it.

That all was thanks to the girl leaning on my arm and trying to push her almost nonexistent chest against my body.

Now, Sharlia was pretty for her age, but… Raynare's boobs were way better and even with her bras off they defied logic. So this Celestial Dragon's breasts aren't anything special here.

"Max, Max, look at that," she pointed at an ice cream parlor. "Let's go and get some of that."

I sighed, acting annoyed. Sharlia smirked at it and led me around, she seemed to enjoy the activities that we had to put up. The plan was to have her drag me around while I use my Observation Haki to sense any traps or anything suspicious.

Also, Sharlia right now had the best escape abilities, Blueno was dead and so was Kaku, I took the Door Door Fruit and had the cute girl next to me eat it. She wasn't strong, but at least she now had one of the best abilities out there that allowed her to escape.

Unless it's an emergency, I had imposed on her to not use her Fruit if I wasn't there to make sure no one was watching. The Door Door Fruit only worked best when no one knew of its ability, and I especially didn't want Sharlia to conveniently have an accident.

I wasn't naive enough to think that she wouldn't be in danger if she kept supporting me. Which she will do no matter what, even if in death… those were her words, not mine.

Soon she will have to return to Mariejois, only there she could offer me the best help and change the world in my favor from inside the World Government.

At least she now had the means to escape in case the time came where she needed to do so.

***

It took only an hour for Max to traverse the whole island as Sharlia had asked him to take her to piggyback and fly. Of course, this had all been a play so he could analyze the whole island and see if there were any routes he should take.

But after he got a look around the place, in the end, Max left Sharlia on the ground with Raynare and Negan to look after her. The latter also was holding back a snicker.

"What shìtty acting," he whispered under his breath, but once he looked up he saw Max looking straight at him.

"At least if I have something to say, I won't say it behind your back," Negan puffed his chest with pride.

Max shoom his head in disappointment. He then went alone towards the Marine Headquarters and was guided straight to Sengoku's office.

*

The place wasn't too big or fancy, though it was quite comfortable and Garp was sleeping on the couch, snoring loudly.

Sengoku was on his desk and looked straight into Max's eyes and saw something that made him scrunch his face like he had just seen something he didn't like. "So? What was your reason for being so late?"

"Emergencies during the journey, and Sharlia always requested too many things down the road," Max shrugged nonchalantly.

These actions made the Fleet Admiral clench his fists. "She always seems to act in your benefits? Quite a coincidence wouldn't you say? That makes some people assume that you are ordering her to do these things instead."

Max seemed unbothered by this, his eyes not indicating any trace of surprise.

He hadn't bothered to keep it a secret that Sharlia might be doing things that benefited him. People would have noticed anyway, and this led to a waste of time keeping the secret.

"I wouldn't know anything about that."

He still refused, even if the secret wasn't a secret, admitting to your crimes always was a bad thing. "She does what she wants, who am I to question a Celestial Dragon's decisions?"

Hearing the last words, Sengoku noticed that Max was accusing him of questioning a World Noble.

'We are supposed to follow, not ask questions.'

Essentially those were Max's real words, but he didn't say them out loud. And the Fleet Admiral recognized that the young man in front of him would be even more trouble than he had anticipated.

"Of, course…" Sengoku replied he couldn't publicly say anything against the World Nobles. He looked at the sleeping Garp when he thought how marines didn't dare insult a World Noble in public… well, most marines.

"Anyway," he continued, "you are here for a submission and test if you are eligible for the Vice Admiral Rank, your actions to uphold justice are undeniable."

The sarcastic tone of the words Sengoku used displayed his real thoughts. He knew that promoting someone like Max higher in the marine ranks was bound to lead to the young man's crimes intensifying.

While he hated to admit it, even those with Absolute Justice would be better to the marines as an organization than Max.

"You called me all this way for a promotion?" The new Vice Admiral wasn't amused by the situation. "I had to go through a perilous journey to get here. Along the way, I hit and killed a dolphin who was like a father to me."

Tears came out of Max's eyes as he recounted the fake story he made up. It made Sengoku mad, he wanted to already punch him so hard he would fly off the Marine HQ.

'I know that is a fake story, he knows I know that, and yet he does this?!' Thought the Fleet Admiral, clenching his teeth and tightening his fists so hard that he had to try and hold himself back.

*YAWN!*

Suddenly Garp woke up and rubbed his eyes.

Max continued with the story about the dolphin. "I looked at his dead eyes with wonder, was it alive or dead? My heartbeat in anticipation of such an event-"

"What's that bullshìt?" Garp asked, wearing his thoughts on his sleeve. "You aren't even trying to hide your amusement when telling this 'sad' story. Even a novice in Haki can hide these things."

"I must admit, I am not that good at Haki," Max confessed with a sarcastically sorry look on his face. "Also you could be wrong at these times old man."

"Don't lie to me, I know that you had enough mastery over your Spirit that to do that even back when I was training you," Garp wasn't having his shìt and told it like it was. "Also my Observation Haki is good even at my age, brat."

"I regret to report that my Haki has regressed," Max put a hand on his chest and a self-pitying look overtook his face.

The old Vice Admiral felt like throwing up once he saw that. "Now I remember why I never got around to liking you. People like you turn my stomach around."

Max flailed his feelings of amusement like a beacon, normal people wouldn't be able to do this. So it showed that he had phenomenal control over both his emotions and Haki.

"Ah~ you hurt my feelings Vice-Admiral Garp, what shall I do now? Taking such hurtful words from a senile old man, who might have started losing it already! Poor me!"

BAAAAAM!!!

Garp's fist landed on Max's jaw and before the latter could even react his body plummeted through multiple walls and fell through the other side of the Marine HQ building.

{Soru}

Fwish!

His body disappeared and he followed after Max. He saw him falling towards the ground and jumped off, following after him. "Do you think I am like Sengoku and will take your shìt? You're a hundred years too early to say that to my face!"

Max looked at Garp following him and smiled as blood came out of his nose. "Hey! I was talking about another old man! This is all a big misunderstanding."

"Well let me clear that misunderstanding, brat," said Garp as he blitzed at Max and punched him straight in the face.

BOOOOOOOOM!!

The newly-promoted Vice Admiral's body plummeted to the ground, a huge crater was made on the ground. Once the dust cleared, Max was in the middle of it and now had blood coming out of his mouth too. "You old folk are really annoying."

BAAAM!!

Garp didn't have any mercy and punched him again, digging the young man's head in the ground. "Wanna say that again?"

But that was when Garp noticed something strange...
