Chapter 10 — Swords of Darkness

It was early morning of the next day, in the adventurer's guild, three adventurers were standing in front of the quest board. It looked like they were about to decide on a quest, but there was a slight problem.

"Oi, Yuhan, can you read any of this?"

Pretending he couldn't hear him, the young man just started whistling looking at the ceiling. The young woman beside them was also struggling to read, but couldn't recognise anything on the text.

With his patience running out, the blonde man just picked any of the request with the highest number and made his way to the receptionist, slamming the paper on the wooden desk with confidence in his voice.

— I'd like to take on this request!

After looking a little bit, the receptionist with a polite smile, denied his request.

— I'm very sorry, this request is for Mythril plate adventurers...

— I know, that's why I brought it here.

He said with a confident tone and a serious expression. At that the woman just sighed and explained.

— But there are rules to be followed.

At that Ainz could only scoff.

— It's a stupid rule, my partner here is a third tier Magic Caster, and that boy over there is a third tier Bard, and I'm a Warrior of the same level, we want a job worthy of our skills.

At that some unease and some gossip started to spread on the other tables.

— Third tier? The whole party?

— That girl looks so young.

The recepcionist considered for a while, but remained adamant about the rules, and after bowing down slightly she again refused their request.

— I am sorry. But according to the rules, I cannot allow you to take this job.

Shrugging his shoulders, Ainz then gave up on the quest.

— I see, then it can't be helped, give us the hardest request a copper level can accept.

With a slight jump, the woman went to find an appropriate request for them.

— I understand, I'll get it at once!

As she went to the back of the counter, a group of adventurers approached Ainz and his group, four adventurers, one kid dressed in light clothes, two young adults with light armor and an older man with a bulky physique.

— Then would you like to help us with our job?

As the group goes upstairs, the Sword of Darkness party got comfortable in their chairs, Yuhan sits on the chair to the right, Nabe shares the sofa with Ainz as the conversations starts.

Getting up from his seat, the leader of the party starts the introductions in a polite tone.

— Let me introduce ourselves, I am the leader of Sword of Darkness, Peter Mauk.

Pointing to the other man of the group, wearing light armor with a relaxed attitude.

— And that's our team's eyes and ears, Lukrut Volve the Ranger.

As he was introduced, the man winked at Nabe who showed no interest.

— This big guy here deals with Healing Magic and Nature Magic, Dyne Woodwonder the Druid.

The big guy was polite and had a calming presence, with a reassuring voice he greeted them.

— Nice meeting you.

The introduction continues as Peter moves to the little boy of the group.

— Lastly, this is our Magic Caster and strategist of our team, Ninya the Spellcaster.

A little shy, the boy with a small build greeted them.

— Nice to meet you, but Peter can you please stop calling me by such an embarrassing nickname?

With an easy going tone, Peter responds.

— Huh? Why not?

At this moment, Lukurt joins the conversation.

— This guy is a talent holder.

At that, Ainz and Yuhan showed a little interest, according to the information they have gathered, Talent Holders are like people with unique skills, which can't be learned or taught.

— He has the talent, Magic Affinity.

After thinking for a little bit, Peter continues.

— It cuts the time required to learn magic spells by half, right?

I sounded like a good talent, for a mage that is.

— That's really good, how lucky~

Yuhan said in a friendly tone.

— I feel very lucky to be born with this talent, it will surely help me realizing my dream!

Conversation continued but now it was time for Ainz and his party to introduce themselves.

— This is Nabe, she is a third tier Magic Caster, over there is Drystan our Bard, and I'm Arthur a Magic Swordsman. Pleased to meet you.

After introductions and a little bit of chatting, it was time for the main topic.

— About our current job, we are going to eliminate the monsters near the city.

"A monster hunting expedition, it's kind of a boring quest…"

Ainz was caught off-guard at the suddenly telepathy message but didn't show it.

"It's our first job, we can't expect something too big"

After not getting an answer Peter started to get a little nervous.

— It's not a job that was particularly resqueted…

At that, Ainz was a little bit curious.

— What do you mean?

Peter rushed to explain to the best of his abilities.

— Depending on the strength of the monster defeated, the guild will receive money from the city, and that's our reward.

"Makes sense, it keeps the city safe from strong monsters and the guards don't need to leave the city."

Ainz gave a little nod to Yuhan's line of thinking, but adventurers should have a more exciting life, than just slaying monsters for some money.

— It makes sense, keeps the city safe and we can earn a reward according to our skills.

Without wasting time, the adventurers got together and decided to move, there was still time before sundown so they decided to got at once.

As they were going down the stairs, a boy was seen talking to the receptionist, long bangs covering his eyes, blonde hair, and a small build, he was dressed like he just got out of a laboratory.

— Mr. Arthur, you have been requested for a specific job.

As the boy got closer to them, Ainz and his team were a little curious about what could this request be about.
