Chapter 51 - The New Project

"Father, what is this?"

Inside the laboratory, Asura sat in front of tanks that were softly humming before him. Inside were small embryos that were slowly growing at a fairly rapid speed. While they couldn't watch it grow with the naked eye, it is easy to notice the growth day to day.

"Clone bodies of me and Mira." Kagami replied.

He currently sat at his workbench piecing together parts that took the form of a pair of goggles. For he plans to use it to replace the cumbersome helmets for his Virtual Reality Project. Which was still a work in progress as the machine is still having trouble keeping up with thoughts. Hence, he was also thinking of which path he wants to take in improving it.

"Clone bodies? Why?" Asura asked with his tails swaying.

"The Mangekyō Sharingan has a stage above its current form. A form that is unlike the normal Mangekyō Sharingan as it won't make the user lose their sight after use." Kagami lightly said.

"Really? How do you know?" Asura asked.

"Because a powerful man once wielded it. From what could be dug out, after he went blind, his brother who also wielded the Mangekyō Sharingan was mortally wounded. So to give his brother a chance, the dying brother gave the blind brother his eyes and they transformed. So not only did he regain his sight, but the side effect of becoming blind was gone." Kagami answered.

The pair of brothers he was referring to was naturally Madara and Izuna. For if there were more users who also gained it. Kagami was unsure since there are not many records for it. Since not every reincarnation of Asura and Indra were Hashirama and Madara.

"Do you actually need that power? You barely use my chakra before even gaining your Mangekyō Sharingan." Asura complained.

"When you say it like that, you make me sound power hungry." Kagami raised an eyebrow.

"Aren't you?" Asura shot back. "From making that serum, me and Kōsetsu, and now aiming to improve your Mangekyō Sharingan. What comes next?"

"Senjutsu." Kagami answered.

"..." Asura was speechless as his mouth moved but no sound came out.

"It never hurts to improve oneself." Kagami replied softly. "Do you know what my dream is?"

"To have unimaginable power?" Asura answered.

"No. My dream is to discover the wonders of chakra. Chakra can accomplish many amazing things and we barely touched the surface of it."

"You probably have the deepest understanding of chakra in the world."

"I don't mean to underestimate myself, but there are quite a few who know more about it than I do." Kagami replied.

The Sage of Six Path and quite a few Otsutsuki aren't to be underestimated with their usage of chakra. Not that all Otsutsuki surpass him, but the stronger ones. Well, it was debatable until he could meet one.

"Now why are you asking these things?" Kagami asked.

"Father, it is so boring here. We haven't done much lately."

Kagami could only shrug as it was not his fault. He truthfully doesn't care much about running missions. So unless he is summoned by the Hokage, he truthfully doesn't mind tinkering away in his laboratory.

"Kagami!"

"What's up?" a tired voice replied to the very energetic one.

Inside the laboratory Kagami, who had dark circles under eyes, looked up to meet Mira. She seemed to have just returned from her latest mission. His eyes quickly looked over her, noticing she is fine, well beside her eyes.

A slight frown appeared on his lips as he knew she used her Mangekyō Sharingan. For she seemed to be slightly squinting her eyes to look across the room in intervals.

"When was the last time you slept?" Mira seemed to pause at the sight.

"Err, not sure. I got into the zone and lost track of time." Kagami waved his hand. "Anyways, the next attempt with Virtual Reality should be better than before. I believe I have about a nanosecond or so delay when receiving your thoughts."

However, after pausing for a moment, Kagami motioned her to take a seat. Afterwards, he began to look into her eyes and began giving her a full body check up. Which gave him some interesting data to say none the less.

The serum is still at work and going smoothly and by the data. Well, it seems that Mira is entering puberty. However, what he cared most about was the data the eyes gave him.

To best describe it, it is as if the eyeballs were burnt. Which he guessed from the large amount of chakra being channeled to them in such a short burst and large quantity. However, this is still a bit off to what is happening to her eyes.

"What are you doing?" Mira asked as she tried to look away from the light he was shining into her eyes.

"You used your Mangekyō Sharingan." Kagami said. "It doesn't seem like it will leave much lasting damage this time. However, your eyesight will suffer for the next week or so."

"If you're this worried, then go on a mission with me next time." Mira mumbled to herself. "Yes, the mission got out of control. Escorting a young girl out of Land of Snow was trickier than it should have been."

"Still, it shouldn't require you to use your Mangekyō Sharingan. I'm sure between you and Kōsetsu, very few could match you." Kagami said as he lifted her arms.

Following her arms, he lifted her shirt and ignored her eye roll as he touched the scars on her stomach and chest. The scars that Yugito Nii gave her and the few cuts she had gained over time. Then, he found what he was looking for as a recent cut that was healing was a bit dark.

"It doesn't seem to be very potent poison. No wonder you didn't notice it nor did the nanobots deem it critical or important to remove upon contact." Kagami murmured, deciding to improve the nanobots again.

"Like I said, the girl we were supposed to escort wasn't very cooperative. She tried to run away so I had Kōsetsu watching her." Mira replied before mumbling about his lack of manners.

"Well, you will be fine, and try not to use your Mangekyō Sharingan too much." Kagami said as she just nodded.
