Chapter 52 - Failure?

Time waits for no one and as the time passed by, both Kagami and Mira found their fourteenth birthday just around the corner. Which didn't bother them much for they enjoyed their days as it had been nearly seven years since they had such a stretch of peaceful life. Besides a few missions, they spent their time training or working on their hobbies.

Their hobbies are tinkering away in his laboratory and much to the other amusement, writing. Much to Kagami's laughter, Mira has taken the suggestion and decided to write a book to compete with Jiriaya. With a bit of editing and suggestions, Mira's first book soon flew off the shelf in the first week.

"The book turned out more popular than I thought it was going to be?" Mira sat on a stool inside the laboratory.

"It's only been a couple weeks since it came out. It is hard to tell yet if it is popular or many just picked it up to try." Kagami answered. "However, I believe it will, since it is well written and truth be told. There isn't much entertainment."

Mira nodded as there really wasn't much entertainment especially in the literature section. Most books were written about shinobi's or contained shinobi's. No matter the genre, shinobi were a part of it.

"Still, is reading about a wizard who lived in a cupboard that interesting?" Mira scratched her head.

In truth while she wrote the book, Kagami helped her plan out most of the story plot and most main and supporting characters. Which really surprised her, especially about how much thought he put into designing certain points. So she truly considered that he wrote most of it, while she just filled in the smaller details.

"Maybe or maybe not. It doesn't matter, but it's something new. Writing is just a hobby and as for others liking it or not is for them to decide. Besides, after seven books, maybe you will decide to write something else or give up writing altogether." Kagami shrugged.

Placing down the pages in his hands, Kagami noted a few things and added a few suggestions. For this is the first part of book two of the series. Since, with the outline and most of the planning done, it didn't take Mira much to write a decent chunk in a short time.

"Still it feels like I'm just filling in the smaller details, while you wrote the biggest chunk of it." Mira replied blandly.

"I just gave you the background and a series of plot twists. You on the other hand are creating the path to arrive at those points." Kagami replied. "Besides, it's pretty easy isn't it?"

"Yes, but it doesn't feel like I accomplished something of my own, but just following behind you." Mira grumbled clearly unhappy.

Kagami stayed silent for a moment before speaking. "Mira, you aren't following behind me. I am like a lighthouse, I can show you the way, but you have to travel the path yourself."

--

A while later while Mira was tapping her finger as she scribbled an idea on a piece of paper, A small beep was heard in the laboratory and drew her attention. Following where the beep originated from, she found two tanks tucked away where she saw a copy of herself and Kagami floating inside.

While it surprised her at first, however she realized this must be one of his projects. However there is one thing that annoyed her. That was her bare body basically on display and so easy to access at that.

"Ah, after months the clones are done finally." Kagami said, stepping inside not long after.

Pressing the buttons on the side, she watched as he drained the tanks and pulled out her and his clone bodies. Much to her slight embarrassment as he touched and examined certain parts on their bodies.

"Why did you clone us?" Mira asked as she looked away.

Kagami was currently examining her clone body chest. Which raised her urge to punch him, but held back for the moment.

"It is the solution I came up with to prevent us from going blind when using the Mangekyō Sharingan. However, I'm afraid it was a failure." Kagami sighed as he opened her clone's eyelids.

Instead of her dark eyes, there lay a pair of Mangekyō Sharingan. So it confused her why it was a failure when she could see the Mangekyō Sharingan in her clone's eyes.

"While it requires a few more tests, if my guess is right. Neither the bodies of chakra networks nor sight. The Mangekyō Sharingan you are seeing now is just a display, nothing more, nothing less."

"Kagami?" Mira interrupted with a calm and almost sweet voice.

"Yeah." Kagami replied not looking away from the clone body.

"What do you think you're touching?" Mira said before throwing her fist at his head in annoyance.

Kagami had basically touched all parts of her clone body and despite knowing he didn't have any other intention besides science. She didn't know if it was shame or annoyance, so giving into her urge, she punched him.

'Grandfather was right, Kagami is a blockhead in certain regards.' Mira mentally complained as she covered up the clone bodies.

"So what are you going to do with these bodies?" Mira asked.

"Gather data and make some adjustments and try again." Kagami shrugged.

Then under her glare, she watched as he picked up her clone body and carried her towards another part of the laboratory. Which urged her to want to smack him again.

"At least dress my clone body." She grumbled.

Much to Mira's disappointment, Kagami just ran the tests and gathered all the data he could from the clone. Then he disposed of it as he did with his own clone after the same tests. Which, both found interesting and chilling as they basically watched themselves vanish.

"Well, in a few days after checking the tanks and preparing the fluids. I can try it again." Kagami said after a few minutes.
