Initial Skills Assessment

Halfway through the day.

Once the initial portion of class was over, it was time for the initial skills assessments. Due to the fourth Hokage allotting four more years of academy time, every other day would include a combat portion where student's skills would be assessed, compared, and given feedback on. This initiative was designed to improve the overall quality of the leaf's shinobi in a safe and healthy way.

Kamui stood with Naruto and Sasuke watching the matches between civilians. It was all pretty boring so far. It didn't look like the civilians really made any pre-academy combat preparations. It was all the same. One of the two would charge blindly at the other and the two would engage in a simple punch fest. There was no skill nor were there lessons to learn aside from what not to do in a scuffle. It was to be expected though; these were the kids without a clan's upbringing. They weren't taught to prepare for combat; that's why they were here.

Suddenly, she heard the announcement of the most interesting match of the day.

"Now, the next match will be Naruto Namikaze versus Sasuke Uchiha." Iruka called out with an excited smile. This would likely be the best match of the day.

"Sasuke's going to mop the floor with him!" the pink haired girl who Kamui now knew as Sakura called out.

"No forehead, Naruto's going to win!" Ino, the Yamanaka heir yelled with rage. It looked like the fan girl pissing contest had begun.

"Go Naruto." The young Hyuga heir silently called out. From what she had seen over the years, this girl was a lot shyer than any Hyuga had a right to be. If she didn't know any better, she'd assume this girl was adopted with her attitude.

Kamui smiled and shook her head. Her classmates were certainly interesting.

When her two brothers were standing across from each other, they each made a hand sign and shook each other's fingers; it was the unison sign made before any spar to remind the combatants that they're comrades before the engagement.

"Alright! My first step to becoming Hokage!" Naruto called out with a cheesy smile.

"Hmph" Sasuke grunted with the standard Uchiha response. He would take Naruto's measure with his own eyes. Would this blond-haired boy measure up? From first impressions, probably not.

"Ready? Start" Iruka called out.

In a quick fashion, Naruto charged at Sasuke and the two engaged in a brief taijutsu spar with Naruto engaging in quick jabs and Sasuke intercepting with the Uchiha clan's style. The problem for Naruto was that he sucked at taijutsu. For all the potential he had based on his lineage, he would need more time before he could catch someone like Sasuke.

Seeing an opening where Naruto over extended his punch. Sasuke shifted his left hand to pull Naruto back, knocking him off balance. Then, he swept Naruto's feet and seized the opportunity to put his knee on his back. It was over.

"Winner: Sasuke. Now, form the unison sign." Iruka called out.

Sasuke got up with a self-satisfied smirk.

'Looks like he's the weakest out of the four of us.' He thought to himself. Through his mother's relationship with the fourth, he reluctantly considered Naruto his brother, if only to take satisfaction in the fact that he wasn't the weakest sibling. It certainly helped his ego cope with his prodigy level brother and anomaly of a sister.

Grunting, Naruto got up with a pout. He would improve. There's no way he'd be left behind in strength. Reluctantly, he made the unison sign with Sasuke and went back to his spot.

Nodding his head, Iruka called the next set.

"Next. Kamui Uchiha versus Hinata Hyuga." Iruka called out another interesting pair.

"Well, this should be fun." Kamui smiled as she went to her spot on the field. Walking to the opposite spot was a small girl with short dark blue hair. She had pale white skin with white pupilless eyes denoting the presence of the Byakugan, the bloodline limit of the Hyuga clan.

"Um. Well. Let's make this a good match." Hinata stuttered out a response, which Kamui nodded.

After the two did the unison sign, they returned to their starting positions. "Ready? Start!"

With that, Hinata's Byakugan flared to life as veins sprouted prominently on the side of her eyes. An outline of a pupil appeared in her eyes as a show of activation. These eyes allowed her to see at a close to 360-degree vision and allowed for far-distance sight in addition to the perception of the chakra system and its 361 nodes.

Once activated, she assumed the Hyuga's stance. One arm faced out toward Kamui while the other stayed close to her body. Based on her personality, Kamui assumed that she was a defensive fighter, something that would require her to do the approach herself.

Deciding to be safe, Kamui coated her body in a thin film of silvery-white chakra causing everyone around her slight confusion. With this, Hinata's gentle fist attacks should have a harder time penetrating her body. It really only helped prevent chakra invasion, so it was an ideal counter to the gentle fist. Unless she could push her chakra with enough force to overpower her own, Hinata would need to shift to another style.

With that, Kamui charged at Hinata. As soon as they made contact, Hinata's palm came at record speed, ready to start shutting down Kamui's chakra network. As taijutsu was currently her weakest link, Kamui struggled to keep Hinata's palms from hitting the more central parts of her body. Although it wouldn't do anything with her chakra coat, it would be bad form to take this spar lightly. This was training after all. The two continued to swap hands for another 15 seconds before Kamui decided to end it. She let one of Hinata's strikes aiming at her shoulder in as bait and moved to sweep Hinata's legs; it worked. Hinata hit her mark, but paused in confusion as she realized what the coat was for; her chakra couldn't penetrate it to get to the chakra point. It scattered as it made contact. It had been happening a few times during their encounter, but this was the first one Kamui made obvious enough for her to notice. Due to her hyper-focused state, by the time she realized what was going on, she was already on the ground with Kamui's hand to her neck in a knife point motion.

Silence. The room was silent for a solid moment until Iruka coughed in his hand.

"Winner! Kamui Uchiha. Now, make the unison sign."

Smiling, Kamui helped Hinata up and they made the sign.

"Great job Hinata. I should have expected a Hyuga to be so great with taijutsu. If I hadn't had that little trick, I don't think I could have lasted that long." Kamui said with a bright smile.

Embarrassed, Hinata's face looked down, while turning red.

"Thank you. You're the first person to compliment me on my taijutsu." She whispered causing the rest of the room to pause. Were the Hyuga clan that demanding to consider a performance like that bad?

"Nonsense. That was excellent. If you wouldn't mind, I'd love to continue to spar and train with you. It'd be perfect. It would help me improve my taijutsu and I could help you with everything else. Just imagine what skills you'd be able to learn with those eyes of yours. I bet you'd be the best long bow user in the village. Ooh, you could even try medical ninjutsu. Your eyes would be perfect for the art!" Kamui exclaimed as she went over the possibilities that ran through her head. She was truly excited to see how someone as skilled as Hinata could take her abilities.

The room was shocked. They had never seen an Uchiha so excited like this before. The most shocked though were Naruto and Sasuke. Their sister was always calm and composed. Even when she was happy, it would be mild compared to other kids. They had never seen her this excited before. The odd part was that they had a feeling it had more to do with the possibilities Hinata could achieve with her eyes more than anything else. It was like a jewel appraiser seeing glimmers of crystal in a rough geode.

"I don't think my clan would like that. They like to focus on the Gentle fist." She said quietly, causing most of the students to nod. They had heard those rumors. The Hyuga clan was famous for sticking to tradition.

"Nonsense! Why would you limit yourself to that when there's so many other things your eyes could do? What would you have done on a real battlefield if someone did what I just did? It wasn't that hard to do and I would have stopped the effectiveness of the art for anyone below Jonin level. The gentle fist art simply has too many flaws and is easy to counter. Why don't we get you started on longbow training? With your range of vision, you could assassinate targets from miles away. You'd be untouchable." Kamui again said something crazy, mocking the Hyuga clan's sacred art and moving on to the possibilities.

Coughing in his hand to interrupt them. Mizuki would do something that would 'inadvertently' make the situation a whole lot worse.

"If you don't mind me asking, what did you do? There were quite a few strikes in there that should have disabled chakra points." Mizuki asked with confusion. It was something he noticed and really wanted to know more about.

Kamui looked toward Hinata, who hesitated and reluctantly nodded. This may be a very bad idea from her, but maybe she could use this as leverage to ask her father to allow her to learn other arts. She cared about her clan, but she would be damned if she was stuck fighting in an art that clearly didn't suit her. Plus, it helped that she didn't have to stick her neck out for what was about to happen. Kamui would take the majority of the fall and she would just be scolded for not stopping her in time.

If Kamui didn't belong to a powerful clan, she wouldn't do something like this; it would be asking for the Hyuga to dispose of her. Kamui wasn't though. She was the adoptive daughter of the Hokage and the blood daughter to the Uchiha clan's matriarch. She was effectively the princess of the strongest ninja village with everything going for her. There was no danger aside for some complaints that the Hokage would sweep under the rug.

Nodding, Kamui proceeded to explain.

"All I did, was coat myself in a layer of chakra and oscillated its frequency by partially transmuting it to lightning chakra. It isn't that useful for much. It does serve to prevent external chakra from entering the system. From what I've read, the gentle fist is simply spikes of chakra being jabbed into the chakra system from a Hyuga member's fingers. By coating myself in this chakra though, I prevent weaker spikes from entering my system. Even if a slightly stronger one enters, it would be too scattered by my chakra to do any real damage. At my current level, it should stop anything short of a Jonin, but I could be off with that. For combat, my assumption would be mid-chunin level just to be safe. A jonin Hyuga should be able to put enough force into the spike to penetrate the coat though. It's something I'll refine over time. It's a pretty simple solution though." Kamui explained simply, her tone indicating that she clearly didn't think it was a big deal. Hinata flinched. Maybe allowing Kamui to explain wasn't as good of an idea as she had originally thought.

"How did you come up with something like that?" Iruka asked realizing that Mizuki made a big mistake asking that question. This would absolutely blow up in their faces. The Hyuga clan would be furious something like this was broadcasted to the whole class. That said, his own curiosity was burning with the desire to learn about his new student's mind and how it ticked.

"It was a simple application of lightning nature transformation to a basic chakra cloak. Both things are pretty simple to do. I just realized that the gentle fist had a glaring weakness to interference. From what I've read in the village library, Hyuga's don't ever get sent to the land of iron since the combatants there have a higher chance of wearing heavy armor, which blocks their move set." She responded.

"That's in the library!?" Mizuki shouted, suddenly feeling the need to pay a visit to that particular facility.

"Yes. It was in the journal of a merchant who authored it a couple of decades ago. He even provided a basic explanation of what he saw the Hyuga doing. The library has a whole section full of journals authored by ninja, merchants, and other professions. They're sanitized by the Hokage before final publishing.

Iruka shook his head. There was no way that journal was sanitized. Even if it was only a single sentence of what she just mentioned, that was absolutely sensitive information. He had to stop this now before it got worse. Quickly creating a single shadow clone, he had it speed off to the Hokage's office. He needed to be briefed on this immediately.

Meanwhile, the students were surrounding Kamui talking about how cool the trick was. The only ones who had worried expressions on their faces were Shikamaru, Hinata, and Sasuke. Kamui wasn't worried herself as she didn't realize that the trick was new. It was basic in her mind, so it shouldn't be a problem. The other kids were simply too young and inexperienced to realize the political hammer that was about to come down on their heads.
