My Mother's Obsession

One of my biggest regrets in this life is introducing my mother to Korean Dramas when I was in High School. She instantly became addicted after watching "You Are Beautiful." Her first K-pop obsession became Jang Geun Suk. She watched all his shows, bought all his CDs, there's even a pillow sitting somewhere in our house with his face on it. She had everything shipped from Asia to the United States of America, where we live. I'm sure she marvels at what a world we live in these days when she lived before the internet was as rampant as it is now.

I thought Jang Geun Suk would be her ultimate stan, but she moved on to Lee Hongki from F.T.Island and G-Dragon from Big Bang. She bought all their newest albums and has multiple shirts and hoodies. We even went to see Big Bang in concert in Las Vegas. I thought nothing could beat her obsession for these three Korean boys... Until BTS came out.

I did not introduce her to BTS, she found them on her own and hasn't stopped talking about them since. Our roles as K-pop Fan and K-pop Addict have become completely reversed. She constantly plays their music videos and watches YouTube clips of them. Her favorite is Jimin. Whenever she messages someone on Facebook she sends the receiver gifs of Jimin. When we watch TV together, she scrolls through her fan Facebook feeds and will show me pictures of Jimin. Whenever there's a quiet moment in the house, she will start singing BTS' latest song. When BTS makes an appearance on American television she records it and watches it live so she can rewind to watch it again and again.

As her daughter I must say... When will this madness end?!
