Good person, am I worthy?

I found a car, and two young men helped me into the car and took me to the hospital. At the hospital, they treated my wounds and checked for broken glass on my head. They also gave me a tetanus shot. I was quite annoyed in my heart.

A piece of gauze was wrapped around my head, which looked like a mourning hat. This made me feel angry.

When I walked out of the emergency room, besides the two service staff who were with us earlier, there was also a girl outside.

The girl had an elegant figure with medium-length hair and a beautiful face. She wore a simple tight-fitting long-sleeved sweater and jeans that made her look fresh and pretty. Her body proportions were extremely coordinated, especially her long legs tightly wrapped in jeans revealing their curves full of youthful vitality.

I recognized her as the little waitress named Xiao Di who caused tonight's incident. Although I felt annoyed that I had fought for her tonight, upon careful consideration it wasn't entirely her fault so I didn't show any bad attitude towards her.

"Manager Chen," said Xiao Di timidly as she approached me with fear and shyness written all over her face."I'm sorry about what happened tonight."

"What are you doing here?" I asked.

"I came to thank you," she replied softly while lowering her head slightly covering half of it with hair strands falling down on both sides of cheeks. Her slender eyes flickered under eyelashes making them appear even more charming. No wonder why that drunkard insisted on having company from such beauty!

"It's okay; you don't have anything to do with this! You work at our company so we will take care of you! Don't call me manager anymore; just call me Wu Ge like everyone else does." As soon as these words left my mouth,I saw blush creeping up on Xiaodi's cheeks along with shy demeanor.I couldn't help but think of an evil thought: If this girl is willing to work in the entertainment industry, she would definitely be a star!

But then I realized that such thoughts were disrespectful towards this innocent girl and forced myself to erase them from my mind.

Two young men came up to me and asked,"Wu Ge, how do you feel?"

"I'm fine. You guys go back now. I won't go to the company tonight; I'll just go home and get some rest. Go find Ah Qiang and tell him to take care of things alone."

One of them tried pleasing me by saying,"Wu Ge, why don't we send you back? It's not safe at night."

I pretended to kick him while laughing,"Why bother sending me back? Am I a girl who needs escorting? There's nothing worth escorting for! Just hurry up and leave!"

Xiaodi suddenly spoke softly,"Let me send Wu Ge back."

I looked at her once, causing her face turning red immediately. She didn't dare look straight into my eyes as if she was frightened or something. Her hands twisted lightly on clothes corners with a hint of panic in her gaze.

The other guy wanted to say something but was kicked by his companion. He quickly woke up from his trance, and both showed ambiguous expressions.

I can guess what these two guys are thinking with my toes! I just don't want to waste time talking to them.

I waved my hand and let them go, and the girl next to me walked carefully towards me, reaching out to hold my arm and leading me outside.

I smelled a faint fragrance on her body, not perfume, but like the scent of soap on her clothes. When was the last time I saw such an innocent girl? I laughed at myself. The place where I work has been insulated from innocence for a long time.

In recent years, I have seen many girls who were originally very simple enter this industry. In just a few months, they became little fairies one by one. They started blushing when they spoke and then used their eyes to seduce men.

After walking two steps, I suddenly had the idea of teasing her: "Are you afraid of me?"

"No! No!" She quickly shook her head: "Everyone says you're a good person and usually take care of us. You're willing to stand up for us when something happens. They say there are four managers in the company, but you're the best."

A good person? I shook my head. A good person? Humph! Can someone in my line of work be associated with those two words?

It's just that since starting as an ordinary worker in the company myself, knowing how hard it is for people below me, so usually treat them kindly and considerately.

Just as we arrived at the hospital entrance, a van came towards us with several people jumping out and running into the hospital lobby. These guys didn't look like good people; some had shaved heads while others had dyed blonde hair or tattoos on their necks - clearly small-time gangsters.

I didn't pay attention at first until these guys ran into one ward after another pulling out several patients - it turned out that they were those three guys I had just beaten up earlier!

Damn! What a coincidence! These three guys also came to this hospital for treatment!

But thinking about it, it's not surprising. This is the closest hospital to the nightclub. If someone gets injured, they will naturally choose the nearest hospital for treatment.

However, this coincidence is not good news for me. Sure enough, one of them with sharp eyes spotted me from afar!

My heart sank and I thought to myself that things were not looking good.

I knew my situation; under normal circumstances, I wouldn't even bother with these people but now with bandages on my head and feeling dizzy and weak from alcohol consumption - my fighting ability has clearly dropped several levels. Moreover, there was only a little girl beside me; if only I hadn't let those two boys go earlier.

"Stop that man and woman!" The guy who saw me shouted loudly.

I immediately panicked and grabbed Xiao Di's arm shouting: "Run!"

She also saw that person and recognized him naturally - her face turned pale in fear. I pulled her along as we ran outside.

The other guys behind us didn't understand what was happening until the guy who saw me shouted again: "That man is the one who beat me!"

Now it's all over - five or six people suddenly realized what was going on and rushed towards us while some took out knives from their pockets.

I didn't have time to think about being dizzy anymore; pulling the girl along we ran wildly down the street. But due to injuries plus alcohol consumption causing weakness in our legs made running difficult especially since she wasn't fast either. As we heard footsteps getting closer behind us, I suddenly grabbed a bicycle parked by the roadside next to us pushing it back towards them slightly slowing them down by two steps before seeing a taxi parked ahead of us on the side of road which gave an idea- so using all my strength pushed forward and ran towards the taxi, opened the door and pushed the girl inside first before jumping in myself shouting: "Drive! Drive fast!"

The taxi driver was startled seeing me with bandages on my head and several fierce-looking guys chasing us. He hesitated for a moment but I shouted again: "If you don't drive now, they'll smash your car!

This sentence had an effect. As soon as the driver stepped on the gas pedal, the car immediately shot out. Listening to the distant curses behind me, I finally breathed a sigh of relief. I said "thank you" to the driver and suddenly realized that I was lying on the girl's lap.

Just now, both of us hurriedly got into the car, but now I am lying on my stomach in the back seat, pressing against her body. She is half-lying with her face up, and my legs are pressed against hers. My head is almost close to her full chest. At this moment, her pretty face is blushing and she seems to be holding back from speaking. Her eyes are watery but she doesn't dare look at me.

The air seemed frozen for a while; my nose was filled with fragrance from her body and being so close to such beauty made me feel dizzy and confused. There was some fear in her eyes but mostly shyness; finally she bit her lip lightly and whispered softly: "Wu Ge, can you...can you get up?"

I coughed once then quickly sat upright again; carefully avoiding touching her again.

I admit that I am not a good person - working in nightclubs means that when it comes to women, I'm definitely not a gentleman - but deep down inside myself there is still respect for pure girls like this one who are rare in modern society.

Perhaps because I have seen too many dirty things before which makes me especially cherish these kind of pure people nowadays.

I could tell by looking into this girl's eyes that they were very clean; it wasn't just pretending purity but rather genuine clarity.

"You're called Xiao Di right?" Sitting upright deliberately trying to conceal my embarrassment while smiling: "How long have you been working at our company?"

"Wu Ge (Brother Wu), my surname is Yan , and my name is Yan Di. Today is my third day at work." Yan Di's expression on her face was either shy or something else; she sat cautiously next to me, hesitated for a moment, then leaned over and helped me adjust the gauze on my head which had been askew when we were running.

When she pulled the gauze, there was a sudden burning pain in the wound on my head. She shrank back in fear and looked timidly at me: "Did I hurt you?"

I shook my head: "It's okay."

Then I remembered that I hadn't told the driver where to go yet. After hesitating for a moment, I asked: "Yan Di, where do you live? Let me take you home first."

"No need. Let's drop you off first." The girl shook her head; although her voice was not loud it sounded very determined.

I lived in the southern part of town - an old street known for its complex environment.

The so-called complex environment means that public security here is relatively chaotic. This area gathers all kinds of low-end hair salons, karaoke bars and various food stalls. Even at two or three o'clock in the morning one can still see all sorts of hooligans wandering around here. Often times even late into night there are small gangs fighting because they couldn't agree with each other.

The biggest reason I live here is that the rent around here is very cheap.

The place where I live is on the third floor of an old building. Before going upstairs, Yan Di suddenly pulled me into a small convenience store next door and bought two anti-inflammatory pills.

It was then that I remembered that I had forgotten to take my medicine at the hospital earlier.

Then she helped me up the stairs. In the dark hallway, I felt the girl trying hard to support me. She seemed a bit tired and panting softly but tried hard to suppress it so that I wouldn't hear her. There was still some damp sweat in her palm.

I don't know why, but there was a soft spot in my heart that seemed to be lightly touched, and suddenly moved by this act of kindness.

I can't remember how long it has been since someone took care of me like this before - maybe only when I followed my master back then did I experience such warmth.

As these thoughts crossed my mind, something strange stirred within me as if reluctant to let go; unconsciously leaning towards her body.

The girl didn't notice anything unusual and thought it was because of my injury; she continued helping me climb each step on the staircase one by one.

"Wu Ge (Brother Wu), why did you stand up for me tonight?" In the darkness, it seemed like there were bright eyes staring at me intently.

I took a deep breath and turned my head away from those piercing eyes; hesitating for a moment before replying calmly: "You're different from those other girls who are hanging out in bars waiting for customers. You work at a company with your own salary, so naturally, as your supervisor, it's my responsibility to protect you."

After being silent for a while longer than usual, I heard her gentle voice say: "Wu Ge, thank you! You're such a good person. I heard from the others that if it were any other supervisor, they would have pushed me out to deal with the customer instead of standing up for me."

I remained silent and instinctively couldn't accept her pure gratitude.

"You're wrong; I'm not a good person," I replied in a muffled voice.

Hmph, am I really worthy of being called a 'good' person?
