"Remember everything I told you?" Kace asked Allison one more time and she nodded in understanding, her eyes red and face pale from crying so much over the nights that had passed.
"I do," she responded, her voice hoarse but still audible.
Kace's gaze softened further, wishing he could envelop her in a warm hug. Without thinking, he did what he wanted to do, wrapping his arms around her and making sure there was no space between them—nearly making her his second skin.
Shocked, Allison reciprocated the gesture by wrapping her arms around him also, feeling warmth spread around her heart, at the same time making it race when his cologne flooded her nostrils.
