Becoming a Shaman Slayer

Today is the day I finally feel ready to take on the goblin shaman. My wounds have completely healed up and my combat training has reached a semi-plateau. I had reached the point of diminishing returns with my fighting style. I needed either a lot more time practicing by myself or the practical experience that comes with fighting monsters. So away to the dungeon I went.

On my way there I was stopped by a gray-haired young woman wearing a green uniform.

"Excuse me you dropped this." (Mysterious Woman)

In her hand was a magic stone that I knew for a fact that I did not drop.

"You got the wrong guy. I never dropped that magic stone" (Nemo)

"Are you sure?" (Mysterious Woman)

I got the feeling taking this magic stone or anything else from this woman would have a major impact on my life. It felt like if I did, I would be signing up for a serious of almost impossible challenges in return for protection from impossible ones.

Which seemed like a pretty major red flag and a very specific feeling/warning.

"On second thought, it does look like something I would drop. Thank you for your kindness" (Nemo)

"You're welcome. My name is Syr Flover by the way" (Syr)

I got two feelings from that: that this woman's name was not Syr and that it would be a very bad idea to mention it.

"Nemo." (Nemo)

"I work at the restaurant behind me, stop by sometime if you want to repay me." (Syr)

"Sure thing. Well, it's been interesting, but I must be going." (Nemo)

'Interesting indeed, his soul is even more chaotic up close. So rare to see a soul so at war with itself. I'm truly so excited to see what becomes of my latest toy, hope I don't break it before I've had all my fun' (Unknown)

*Later at the dungeon*

After a short walk filled with bullying the goblins, I arrived at the boss room. I was worried initially that boss fights would always be filled with me waiting for my turn, but as it turns out the room is instanced. This means each group gets its own boss and that no one can slip past the boss.

As I walked in, I was once again face to face with the shaman. The shaman was an old decrepit goblin dressed in leather robes with a feathered headdress and a staff with feathers, bones, and teeth hanging off it. Apparently, all three items increased the effect of black magic, which made them popular items for beginner magic specialists and as a result highly profitable. Sadly, everyone could only kill the boss once.

I would like to say that the battle was one for the story books, but that simply just wasn't the case. The simple fact of the matter was that I was at the pinnacle of the possible stats with my goblin form pushing me past even that.

In addition, While I was probably not the most skilled person to ever go into this fight, I still had a high mastery of my body from my fighting style and had a primal understanding of battle from my magic.

Lastly, the big test about how brute force cannot always win you the day, I already had that lesson carved into my flesh.

The simple fact of the matter was this:

My primal understanding of combat made me fluent in body language, so I knew when the goblin would drop his shields and fire a magic bolt.

My stats and control of my body let me act on those predictions.

I rushed the goblin to bait a fire bolt, then dodged the straight flying magic projectile. This gave me ten seconds free of fire bolts and a split-second opening in the shaman's defenses. My sword was between its ribs before it knew what was happening. It then proceeded to turn to dust and drop its loot.
