Inside of the elevator, Subject 1183 was innocently humming an old song he used to hear from his old life as he patiently waited for his stop. It had been a few minutes already since he entered it. Now he had to wait until the elevator made it to the next floor.

It's been a bit since he had a moment of silence for himself. He got quickly adjusted to the sounds of gunfire and explosions that were aimed right in his direction. Now that everything was silent, it felt a bit weird. Not that he minded the nice change of pace though. He had to enjoy it while he could. It wouldn't be long until he was right back in action.

Using the free time he had left before his stop, he decided to shift his focus toward his stats. He did after all level up a few minutes prior.

1183 was quite pleasantly surprised with the profiles he was given. The [Adept] profile was extremely useful to him since he increased the power of his already potent biotic abilities alongside increasing the radius of the explosions. Allowing more enemies to be caught in the boundary of his biotics. [Botic Echos] was also a nice add-on since it could create additional explosions. 

The [Explorier] profile was all-around basic but versatile. Improving every single aspect of his abilities from more weapon damage to flat out more damage resistance. Compared to the other profiles, it didn't provide that much but what caught his eye was [Biotic Blink]. It essentially allowed him to teleport to small distances. Even granting him the ability to teleport through even walls. The bonuses that [Explorier] provided were nice but if he were to use the profile, it would most likely be for the teleport ability.

But for now, he decided to pick the [Adept] for the meantime until he had unlocked another profile he preferred. He would use the [Explorer] as a backup if he needed to traverse distances.

1183 instantly felt a surge of energy course throughout his body. He sensed that he could manipulate the mass effect fields all around him to a higher, stronger degree than he previously imagined. This was possibly due to the profile granting him passives to his biotic abilities. Making them even more powerful than they already are.

"Wait…..I feel like I'm forgetting something.."

"Ah crap! The skills!" A look of realization appeared on his face as he remembered what he was trying to check in the first place. He opened up the system once again and went back to the stats screen

"...." 1183 stood there awestruck as he looked at the skills the system offered him. This was possibly the best skills he had ever seen coming from a level up! Just the skill [Biotic Orbs] alone would be worth it. The extra skills that came along with it were just the icing on the cake. He was glad that he saved up his skill points since he could get all of them and possibly get them to rank 2.

But the most important skill on the list was [Biotic Ascension] and the passive [Bloodlust]. Gaining the ability to get stronger and faster after each kill ideally suited his aggressive fighting style. 

But the main appeal was [Biotic Ascension]. This allowed him to gain stacks by killing certain amounts of enemies before transforming into an enhanced state. Allowing him to use all of his biotic abilities to their fullest potential at the cost of using shields as the battery. Which became completely obsolete since he could use [Charge] to regain the majority of his shields back in an instant!

That's not all. It also provided 100 damage resistance. Combined that with his tech armor passive. That means that he has 110 damage resistance! This means that anything that hits him during ascension will completely cut that damage a little less than half!

Not wasting any more time and without hesitation, he invested all the points required to gain the skills. Reducing his 9 skill points all the way down to 4.

Seeing that he unlocked the [Vanguard] profile, he quickly swapped out the [Adept]. The [Vanguard] Granted more damage from his melee attacks, more shields, and more cooldown for his abilities when he wasn't in [Biotic Ascension]. Perfect for his rush-down style.

And to finish everything off, he decided to spend the rest of his remaining skill points to upgrade [Battlemaster]. It would be nice to get an increase in everything.

[X1-Wing]

Subject 1183, who was patiently waiting with his eyes closed, awoke to the sound of ding. He opened his closed eyes to see the elevator doors already opened for him. Waiting for him to walk out.

He moved his right foot forward as he walked out of the elevator and into the long decorated hallway that was in front of him. He immediately noticed that the lighting was completely different compared to the previous floor as everything in the vicinity was illuminated by darkish orange color. The walls that used to be clean were now stained with blood smeared all over it. But the most obvious thing was the Cerberus bodies that laid before him. 

He bent on one knee as he got up close to the corpse to inspect the damage. He quickly found multiple massive gun holes around their bodies. Probably coming from a shotgun blast point-blank. There were even some bodies that were mangled beyond recognition. Some bodies had their intestines ripped out of their stomachs while some bodies had some missing appendages like their heads, arms, and legs. 

No ordinary human could have the strength to rip apart a person's body like this. Whatever it was, it wasn't human.

It seems that he wasn't alone.

He ignored the rest of the bodies as he got up and walked towards and looked out the nearby glass window that revealed the nearby giant desert planet. He gazed at its beauty for a good second before placing two of his fingers on the side of his helmet "Darwin you there? Can you hear me?"

The only thing he could hear was the sound of static until everything started to clear up until eventually, he heard a voice " I can hear you 1183. I had to clear the frequency in order to hear you. Too much communication chatter throughout the facility. Must be your doing.

"Ah, it seems you made your way to the X-1 Wing! Good. You'll be able to get to the communications tower directly through here."

A look of confusion appeared on 1183's face "How come you already know I made it to the X-1 Wing? Maybe I'm still locked inside of the Medial bay".

He heard a chuckle from the other side "I guess I'll humor you. Turn around"

Doing what he requested, 1183 turned around to see a security camera looking down right at him " Of course. The security cameras. So if you have access to the security cameras, then you must have noticed the dead bodies all around me. Do you know what happened here?"

"I see the dead bodies. Death seems to follow you wherever you go Subject 1183. But I can give you an answer. Give me a second.." Darwin commented with the sound of amusement in his voice before typing something on the nearby terminal.

After a few seconds of silence, he spoke up again "it seems we're not the only ones fighting back against Cerberus".

"What do you mean by that?"

"I believe it would be better if I just show you. Sending you the live Security feed now…"

That's when Subject 1183 heard a notification sound coming directly from his Omni-tool. Using his mini-computer, he linked to the security feed to see what Darwin was looking at from his perspective.

"SHOOT THEM DAMMIT! BEFORE THEY GET TOO CLOSE!"

"SHIT! I'M RUNNING OUT OF AMMO HERE!"

Somewhere inside the facility, You would notice a pair of 4 Cerberus hiding behind cover while shooting something from the other side of the hallway. 1183 couldn't see what it was due to the nearby wall blocking his field of view. 

"WE'RE RUNNING OUT OF AMMO SIR! WE NEED TO GET OUT OF-ARGHHHH!" 

"THUMP, THUMP, THUMP, THUMP!" The floor below them started to shake like an earthquake as the sound of something massive started to make its way toward the remaining trio. Each step getting closer and louder as the next thing 1183 saw was a dead body flying through the air aimed right toward one of the guards with enough force to send him crashing to the ground.

"Bang, Bang, Bang, Bang!" One of the guards, using her last remaining thermal clip, proceeded to try and shoot the life out of the creature in front of her. It would prove quite ineffective as the creature shrugged off the pain and directly rushed at the girl. Using its massive body like a battering ram to crash right into the girl's body into the wall. The remaining two Cerberus guards couldn't do anything but helplessly watch as their teammate got turned into a massive red paste alongside her internal organs.

They observed as the creature turned its blood-smeared face to look directly at them.  His wide-set green eyes were filled with the look of insanity. As if there was no sense of rationality or stability inside of his head. At least not anymore.

"AGHHH!" The next thing they heard was the sound of a roar in the air as the massive reptilian biped creature rushed towards the survivors! Its once green eyes were now filled with the color of blood as it turned into a blood rage!

"GOD DAMN IT SHOOT THE FUCKING KROGAN!"

"BANG,BANG,BANG,BANG!"

The sound of bullets filled the blood-filled air as the last remaining trio used their last remaining thermal clips to shoot the now rage-induced Korgan as it began making its way to kill them all!

They all continued to hold the trigger of their guns as hard as they could. Hoping their remaining bullets would be able to save them from this nightmare. Sadly, the nightmare they were experiencing was real as the next thing they saw was their teammate getting his head blown by a shotgun to the face!

The remaining two, who just saw their friend die, quickly looked at each other before aiming down their Cerberus Harrier and proceeded to fi-

"Clank, Clank, Clank"

That's when they heard the sound of empty magazines…

"Ah, fuck" Were the last words that ever came out of the guard's mouth as he felt massive pressure flood through his head as the insane Korgan grabbed the man by his head! The scream of agony filled the air as the Korgan, using his supernatural strength, ripped the human's head with its bare hands! Blood was spewing everywhere from where the man's head used to be.

The look of horror filled the man's face as he quickly realized that he was the last remaining survivor of his platoon. His survival instincts instantly kicked in as the man proceeded to drop his gun and run away for dear life. Quickly distancing himself from the horror that was out to kill him.

And the poor man ran. He ran so far away. Quickly jumping and vaulting over anything that was in front of his direction. After a few minutes of running, That's when he saw his last remaining hope.

A locked reinforced door that leads to the other side of the X-1 Wing!

"HELP! CAN ANYBODY HEAR ME!? SOMEBODY OPEN THE DOOR! ONE OF THE KROGAN PRISONERS ESCAPED CONTAINMENT!" You could hear the panic in the trooper's voice as he banged the door right in front of him as hard as he could. 

"Thud, thud, thud, thud"

"ARGHHHHH!"

The sound of massive earthquaking footsteps combined with the yelling of insanity was all he could perceive as he turned around to see a gigantic Korgan rushing him down the hallway!

All he could do was continue banging on the door with complete ferocity. As if the door was the key to saving his life. "OPEN UP THE DOOR PLEASE! IT'S GETTING CLOSER AND CLOSER!"

"Clunk, crank"

A smile formed on the guard's face as the sound of hydraulics filled the air. The door slowly opened to reveal what was waiting for him on the other side.

That's when he saw somebody standing right in front of him. His smile once stretching across his face turned into a look of horror as he slowly backed away from her.

"NO….IT CAN'T BE! HOW….HOW THE HELL DID YOU ESCAPE CONTAINMENT!?" The guard muttered as he looked at the person in front of him with shock. Her feminine physical characteristics yet purple body carried scars from all the experimentation she had suffered throughout the years of her imprisonment. Instead of hair, she carries semi-flexible, cartilage-based scalp crests that grow into shape and her eyes showed signs of insanity. Much like the ones the Korgan carried.

Her face turned into a scowl as she raised her right hand. Soon being covered by a purplish glow 

"NO…NO! STAY AWAY FROM ME ASARI!" 

The man yelled as he tried to run away but before he could make a single step, he suddenly found himself floating up in the air! The last he ever saw was the face of a crazed Asari as she manually detonated the singularity. Resulting in a massive amount of human meat flying everywhere!

"Thud, thud, thud, thud"

As she looked at the mess in front of her, she suddenly felt the ground shaking as she looked up to see a massive Krogan standing right in front of her. There was blood covering his entire body.

"AGHHHHH!"

"AHHHHHH!"

They both yelled out in a battle cry as they both rushed at each other. Both of them having the intent of killing the other one.

1183 looked on with a slight look of surprise on his face as the Korgan and Asari massacred each other through the security camera. Not caring for the outcome, he switched the security feed to another part of the facility. Wanting to see how the situation is going in the other parts of the facility.

He switched to security feed to another part of the facility to see multiple prisoners of the facility such as Korgans, Turains, Asari, and Quarians combined with the sounds of gunshots and explosions. He switched the feed multiple times and every single time all he saw were the signs of death and firefights.

"Darwin what's going on here!? Why the hell are there escaped prisoners all throughout the facility!?"

Drawin typed something inside of his terminal before responding to the question "It seems the virus from the DataCore you previously plugged in had more effects than we originally thought"

He then continued to explain " As you know, when the virus contaminated the Ultra Defense Intelligence it spread throughout the network. Causing a station-wide shutdown. You could probably guess where this is going".

"Due to the fact that many of the systems that kept everything in working order were shut down. Resulting in the operating systems that kept the prisoners in check shutting down. Releasing all of the test subjects within the facility and turning everything into bedlam".

"Essentially, this entire facility has turned into a massive warzone"

1183 just sighed at the situation he was put in. He now had to deal with crazed prisoners alongside a paramilitary organization that was constantly hunting him down."But hey look at the bright side! At least Cerberus is going to divert the majority of their attention away from you to get everything under control"

1183 pushed the thought aside and decided to focus on the problem in front of him "So what now? Is this going to be a problem for us getting out of this mess"

All he heard was a scoff in response "A problem? Please! This is merely a slight setback to our goals. All this means is that you're going to have to expend more thermal clips than you usually do and deal with tighter security from here on out. Nothing you can't handle surely". 

"Says the man who's hiding somewhere safe deep within the facility with no bullets flying over their head"

"We all have our parts to play 1183. Me included. After all, I was the man who helped you get out of your imprisonment in the first place. Now you need to hold your end of the agreement and make your way to the communication towers"

"BANG!"

"BOOM!"

That's when 1183 heard the sounds of bullets and explosions coming from the other end of the earpiece "Shit! My position has been compromised! I'm going to find another secure location! The other prisoners got their hands on some weapons and are fighting a platoon of guards as we speak!"

"I'm going radio silent while I find somewhere safe. That means no backup support in the meantime"

Even though he couldn't see his face, 1183 nodded his head while his face turned serious. Things were going to become much harder from here for the both of them "I know Darwin. Just try not to get yourself killed out there. This place is not too keen on letting us leave this place alive".

As he finished what he had, he took one step forward. Making his way to the other side of the X-1 Wing. But not before getting some parting words from Darwin "Oh before you go, I need to warn you about the X-1 Wing".

"The X-1 Wing is dedicated to all the prisoners that Cerberus experimented on in the past. That place is nothing but filled with mindless husks who are trying to kill everything in sight. So don't feel bad for putting a bullet between their eyes. You'll just be doing them a favor by ending their misery if anything. 

"But whatever you do! Don't go into the coliseum!"

"Why? What could be so dangerous that warrants me to avoid it?"

"The coliseum is dedicated to containing the most dangerous subject within the facility. If for whatever reason you have to cross the coliseum, there's an emergency ladder that can get you straight up there. But that's if you have no other alternatives. Beyond that avoid it at all costs. You may be genetically superior but…"

"You are not the only creature they tried to perfect"

"What!?"

"No time to explain! Get to the access tunnels that are on the other side of the Wing! It's used by the maintenance crew and should allow you to go straight up all the way to the communication towers! Now move it!" That's 1183 heard as the next thing he heard was the sound static.

Taking the advice to mind, he started making his way towards the other side of the X-1 Wing. Mentally preparing himself for everything that's about to come. He was confident though with his new upgrades, he would manage to survive.

He still couldn't grasp the parting words Darwin left for him though. What did mean by not the only creature they tried to perfect? Was there another specimen before project evolution? If so, what the hell happened to him?

It seems he will find out eventually.
