Chapter 47: The Truth
"Here, I have a recording of the accident. Humans usually call it a black box."
Talos pulled out a CD and walked slowly to his desk where the computer was set up.
"Meow..."
A sudden meow erupted as an orange cat leaped from the box and rushed straight toward Talos, who had just reached the desk.
"Oh my goodness!"
Talos appeared to have encountered the most terrifying creature in the world. He stumbled back in panic, tripping and falling to the ground.
"Meow..."
The adorable orange cat climbed onto him and licked his face.
"No, no, no! Get it away! How can you keep such a dreadful creature in your house?"
Despite his usually composed demeanor, Talos was completely flustered by the orange cat.
Carol quickly picked up the orange cat, her face reflecting suspicion. "This little guy is so cute! Are you... afraid of a cat?"
"No, no, no! It's not a cat! It's one of the most fearsome creatures in the universe—the Flerken!"
"Pfft—"
...
Hala, the home planet of the Kree civilization, also houses the Supreme Intelligence.
Today, the Kree, who dominate the universe, assembled a massive fleet. Under the leadership of the accuser Ronan, they set course for Earth.
At this scale, waging a star-destroying war seems futile.
The Kree are a warlike race, and many forces in the universe are watching their movements. Most are aware of their intentions and goals: Earth, a backward planet that has not even entered the interstellar era.
There are sympathizers and those who gloat. In short, from their perspective, Earth is doomed.
Even powerful Xandar would struggle against such an assault.
This isn't just about war; it's also about demonstrating strength. The Kree have grown increasingly dissatisfied with their current state and are eager to expand further.
However, the reaction from some ancient forces was to ridicule the Kree: "Fools!"
Those who see Earth as an easy target likely don't realize that Earth is part of the Nine Realms.
Despite Odin's old age, Asgard remains a formidable force. Some even consider the Asgardians to be untouchable.
Few are aware that Earth is not truly governed by the Nine Realms but is protected by the Sorcerer Supreme of Kamar-Taj.
In short, whether it's Odin or the Ancient One, they are forces that should not be underestimated.
Even someone as powerful as Thanos, the universe's overlord, would wait until Earth's defenders are nearly defeated before acting himself...
...
As the black box recordings played, Carol's memories became clearer, connecting the dots.
Six years ago, Dr. Lawson and Carol were testing the Pegasus Project in a fighter plane when they were pursued by a Kree spaceship, resulting in a crash.
Before dying, Dr. Lawson revealed to Carol that he was not from Earth but a Kree named Marvell, who had been aiding the Skrulls persecuted by the Kree.
The Kree commander, Yon-Rogg, killed Dr. Lawson. At the critical moment, Carol fired at the energy engine.
The explosion from the destroyed engine granted her incredible energy control abilities.
Yon-Rogg took her to Hala, the capital of the Kree Empire, for reprogramming. From then on, she lost her memories of being from Earth and became a Kree soldier named "Vers."
"Vers" was indeed the last part of her name.
The truth was revealed.
It wasn't the Skrulls who killed Dr. Lawson but the supposed mentor, Yon-Rogg.
She is not Vers, nor a Kree, but Carol Danvers, a true Earthling!
"What—"
She ran out the door in a frenzy, her emotions boiling over.
"They lied to me!"
"Everything I believed in the past was a lie!"
