Chapter Forty-Six: Tony's Stank—Criticism Killed
"By the way, Carol, I just remembered that I have a lot of things I want to show you. I'll go find them..."
Monica suddenly recalled something and hurried into the room.
At that moment, Thor's phone rang. He checked the message, looked up, and said, "Someone sent something. I'll go fetch a box."
With that, he quickly left the room.
"Uh, then I'll go help her. You two talk."
Nick Fury followed Monica into the room, leaving Carol and Maria Rambeau alone.
Maria took the time to recount their past to Carol, and Carol was deeply touched. Various memories flashed before her eyes.
"Hey Carol, I found it! Come in and check it out!"
The little girl excitedly dragged Carol into her room. As Carol looked at the photos and various mementos, she could no longer doubt that she was indeed a part of their lives.
But what happened six years ago? Why did she become a Kree?
"Boom boom boom—"
There was a sudden knock on the door. Maria stood up.
"Don't open the door!"
Carol warned seriously, "They can be anyone!"
"What should I do? The person at the door might be a neighbor..."
Nick Fury, grabbing his gun, cautiously approached and opened the door. Standing there was a middle-aged man in a white suit.
"Uh, sir, what brings you here?"
Nick Fury lowered his pistol and said, "It's okay; he's my boss, not an outsider."
Carol's vigilance remained unchanged. "Ask him why he's here."
The man in the suit explained, "The bureau received your report, and it's very important. I was specifically assigned to take over. I'll be in charge from now on, Nicholas."
Nick Fury's expression remained neutral as he nodded. "Is that so? My boss and I have been working together , and we've never admitted to mistakes."
The man in the suit responded, "That's right, we're old partners..."
Before he could finish, Nick Fury grabbed the man's arm, slammed him against the wall, quickly moved behind him, and put him in a chokehold.
"Is something wrong with my acting?"
The boss struggled to speak, and as soon as he finished, he forcefully threw Nick Fury to the ground.
"Boom—"
A beam of energy shot out, knocking Talos down.
"Stop, stop!"
The man in the suit's face changed, and he instantly transformed into Talos. He raised his hands in a gesture of peace: "I'm not here to cause trouble. I just want to have a conversation with you."
"I have nothing to discuss with you!"
Carol's expression was fierce.
"Oh my God, what's happening?"
Maria Rambeau suddenly exclaimed, "Who is that person who looks like me outside?"
She saw someone who looked like her leading her daughter outside the door.
"Don't worry, no one will be harmed, and I don't want to do anything. But, I have to... ensure some things, right? After all, you are not an ordinary lady!"
"What do you want to discuss? Hang me upside down like last time?"
"No, no, last time I didn't know your background and mistook you for one of them."
Talos explained patiently.
"You should try to trust him. At least he's not lying to you now."
Thor's voice came from the door, holding a large box in his hand.
Carol glared at Thor: "Prove your identity!"
Thor looked puzzled and replied, "How do you want me to prove that I am me?"
"Skrulls can only steal a target's memories for a short period of time. So, tell me something they don't know!"
Nick Fury nodded in agreement: "I can vouch for you."
Once bitten by a snake, one is cautious around ropes. He was wary of the Skrulls' shapeshifting ability.
"Something you don't know?"
Thor set the box on the table, hesitated, and tentatively said, "Howard Stark's son, Tony Stark, wet the bed when he was ten years old?"
"Perfect! Don't doubt it—he is real!"
…
