Chapter 48: Creating Weapons with the Tesseract

"Captain is the first superhero in American history. He represents so much—bravery, intelligence, selflessness, honor..." Clint Barton, though not as adoring as Phil Coulson, greatly admired Captain America. "His sacrifice has saved many lives and touched many people. The military has always used him as a figurehead, promoting him tirelessly. Over the years, there have been countless comics, movies, merchandise, and more about him. It can be said that many children grew up listening to his stories. In this environment, it's hard to find someone who doesn't like Captain. So, if there's anyone who can unite these unruly, highly skilled Avengers, I believe it's Captain."

"Although I haven't met him yet, he sounds like someone I would like," Thor said, having gained a preliminary understanding of Captain America, thanks to Phil Coulson's brief description. "If I had to choose someone from these options who could convince me, it would be him."

"Now Captain has three votes," Clint Barton said.

"No! It's three votes," Phil Coulson changed his opinion again. "Thor is right. While Director Fury may be the nominal founder and maybe everyone's superior, he's just an ordinary person. He clearly can't win over Thor, or even Stark. The only one who seems capable of gaining everyone's acceptance is Captain."

"Is that WWII veteran really that good?" Tony Stark muttered.

"Stark, do you have any other choices?" Phil Coulson turned and looked at Tony Stark.

"Well, Steve Rogers does seem like the most convincing person among these options, but there's one thing—he seems to be weaker," Tony Stark said, anticipating Phil Coulson's rebuttal and speaking faster. "I'm not belittling Captain. He's still very impressive compared to ordinary people. But let's not forget, we have a god in our team. Even though this god seems unreliable now, having been pounded by Doctor Banner..."

"Stark!" Thor said with extreme exasperation. "Do you have to bring up Doctor Banner? As I've said, that event won't happen and can't happen!"

"Thor, can't you have a little patience?" Tony Stark said. "I was about to say 'but.'"

"Go ahead, I'm listening!" Thor immediately grinned.

"I was originally going to say 'but,' but you interrupted and ruined my interest in saying 'but'," Tony Stark threw in a sentence that meant nothing.

"But you clearly said 'but' just now!" Thor's smile froze on his face.

"For now, Thor's strength is the greatest among the Avengers. He can fly, summon lightning—much more powerful than Captain," Tony Stark walked a few steps in the other direction, showing Thor his back. "His status is even more noble; he is the prince of Asgard. Captain's comics and merchandise have been selling well for decades, but the legends about Thor can be traced back to the first and second centuries AD."

"So, are you saying that this person should be Thor instead of Captain?" Clint Barton summed up Tony Stark's long speech in the shortest way possible.

"That's right, that's what I mean," Tony Stark said. "I also have great respect for Captain, but if we're talking about who can convince me the most and turn someone like me, who was initially not united with everyone, into a cohesive team, I believe Thor has a better chance."

"Stark, what you're saying also makes sense," Clint Barton said. "When I saw Thor descend from the sky, bathed in lightning, I have to say, his incredible power also impressed me. And as the prince of Asgard, fighting for Earth, I greatly admire him."

"Now we have two options. Which one do we choose?" Phil Coulson looked at everyone.

"I'm just stating my opinion. You guys can make the decision," Tony Stark stepped back a few steps. "This question won't be answered by me."

The unspoken agreement among everyone was that the person the question was about would answer it. However, this question wasn't directed at any specific individual, so anyone could answer it.

Tony Stark had already answered the question, more than once, and had even received rewards for it. So, in this situation, he willingly gave up the opportunity.

Besides, he didn't really need the Desert Eagle with unlimited bullets.

"This reward is useless to me," Thor also had no intention of answering and took a few steps back, standing beside Tony Stark. "You guys decide who wants to answer."

"I prefer using a bow and arrow. Unlimited bullets are nice, but they don't attract me that much," Clint Barton also stepped back and stood with Thor and Tony Stark. "Coulson, it's your chance."

"Well, thanks, everyone. I actually quite like this gun," Phil Coulson looked at the question, glanced at Thor, and just as Thor thought Coulson was going to choose him, a smile appeared on Coulson's face, "My answer is C, Captain America, Steve Rogers."

Thor's smile froze. Why did you look at me when you chose Captain America?

My emotional investment went to waste!

"Answer incorrect! One year deducted from lifespan!"

Phil Coulson staggered, his complexion visibly pale.

He couldn't help but look at Thor again. The same fate befell him, and yet Thor seemed as if nothing had happened, not even a hair out of place. That body of his was truly enviable.

"Such a pity, I quite liked this gun," Phil Coulson rested for a while to regain his strength.

Before long, the space began playing a video.

"What are you doing, Stark?" Nick Fury, wearing a black trench coat, strode into the room.

"I could ask you the same question," Tony Stark sat on the table, looking quite lazy. Next to him stood Bruce Banner, casually.

"You should find a way to locate the Tesseract," Nick Fury approached the two, his expression serious.

"Already working on it. The signal has been locked, searching for gamma radiation markers," Tony Stark replied before Bruce Banner spoke, "Once found, we'll lock the target within half a mile."

"After that, you'll get your hands on the Tesseract, don't worry," Tony Stark pulled up something from the computer and asked, "What's the second phase?"

"The second phase is S.H.I.E.L.D. using the Tesseract to create weapons!" Captain America walked in, holding a weapon component, and placed it on the table with a snap.
