Yan Luli was confused but still bowed, her voice laced with fear. "Sir, we apologize for the trouble we've all caused."
Zhang Han turned his head and looked at the rain drizzling outside, his gaze turned icy, his eyes glinting like frost. "I heard you had a bad relationship with them," he said, his voice dripping with scepticism.
He turned back to the girl, his gaze studying their expressions and sure enough, Yan Ruyi's expression changed.
Yan Ruyi's expression changed, a flicker of anger and resentment crossing her eyes. "Sir, you must have been mistaken. Delilah and Anna were bullies back at school. It's true we have a bad relationship, but that doesn't mean we can do them any harm, if you are suspecting us to have any hand in their disappearance, sir." She explained calmly.
Zhang Han's expression was unreadable, he would be lying if he said he wasn't impressed by their acting, but his voice was laced with danger. "Are you saying that I am lying?" he responded coolly.
If he hadn't been informed that Delilah and her friend passed out due to being knocked unconscious, he would have believed her.
These girls before him were not good people.
The girls felt shivers crawl down their spines.
Yan Ruyi hastily replied, "N-No sir, we dare not say that. I was only saying, you might have been mistaken…"
Zhang Han interrupted patiently, his voice dripping with unlaced anger. "You're saying my source is unreliable, then?"
The atmosphere was suddenly charged with an ominous aura, Yan Ruyi's mind racing with fear. She didn't know what went wrong with the conversation and what else to say, her thoughts paralysed with dread.
She was mentally exhausted, unsure of how to escape the trap she didn't know she fell into. She was still thinking of what to say when Zhang Han curtly told them to exit the room.
Zhang Han's patience was wearing thin, his eyes glinting with a warning, he dismissed them, "You may leave." He said curtly, his face was as gloomy as the rainstorm.
After the girls left, Zhang Han read through the file, lost in thoughts for a considerable amount of time before he also left the room.
…
As they left Zhang Han's office, Yan Ruyi felt a mix of relief and anxiety. She knew they had to be careful, as Zhang Han's eyes seemed to bore into their souls.
"What's our next move?" one of the girls whispered, as they walked towards their dormitory.
Yan Ruyi hesitated, unsure of what to say.
"I think Delilah and Anna have been rescued," she said, her brows knitting. "And Zhang Han might have found out."
" Didn't you cover the tracks well?" Wang Xiao asked, her voice unsteady with anxiety.
Yan Ruyi led the group back to their dormitory, the tension between them was palpable.
As they entered the room, the others looked to her for guidance.
" Let's rest first and don't act out, if you slip up, we'll be exposed" she warned in a low voice.
Yan Ruyi dropped on her bunk, her eyes cold and deep. Zhang Han must have figured out something, and the thought of it made her panic, but she assured herself that she covered their tracks well, so he was only testing them since they were the prime suspects.
