"You look terrible for a man who finally resolved a century of problems, "said Gerald
Xavier sighed gulping down his drink.
"What happened, I thought you guys would be together now that everything was sorted but..." he stopped watching his friend's face change
"That was what I thought too, but she asked for some time to find herself again," he took a big gulp of his third drink, " it has been going in until now ".
"And I don't think it will end unless you make a move and stop sitting back like this " Gerald let out.
"She goes to their graves every day since we got back and the only thing she does is cry and beg for their forgiveness" he let out.
"Huh!, ...you mean her family?" he asked.
Xavier nodded.
"But its the other way round, if they were alive they would be begging for her forgiveness after everything they did to her , so why is she doing it instead " Gerald muttered.
"They might have hurt her or lied but they were still her family. She still thinks both of them died cause of her and I don't think anything I say will make her feel any different " he said.
Gerald breathed.
"But it was not her fault...all this was because of the king and her father. And I know most of it turned out this way cause of Trinidad but none was her fault "
Xavier finished his fifth drink and pulled out his phone, gazing at the wallpaper. It was Liana's smiling face.
"I tried telling her but with time she cut me out of her life too...I reached out to her but every time I was turned down '.
"Am sorry " Gerald tapped his back.
Xavier sighed drinking more.
....
Liana had just got home when her phone rang, it was Xavier.
She ignored it as usual and headed to her bathroom, but it was still ringing when she came out.
She frowned, he usually didn't call again after she refused to pick up the first time, but now it was the fourth time.
She had not intended for it to turn out this way but after she pulled away it got hard to return to normal, especially their relationship.
So she just let it be until she felt better or confident to take his call.
"Hello, I thought we had agreed to...." she was cut off.
"Liana, it's Gerald " she heard.
"Gerald...why are you...is something wrong!" she asked.
"Sorry but, it's Xavier," he said.
She sprung up, "Did something happen to him?"
"I think you should come see yourself, we are still at the bar and can't leave " he shouted.
She frowned hearing glasses breaking in the background and Xavier yelling.
"What happened?" she yelled.
"Just come over.... it's," the call got cut.
Liana didn't want time rushing to get dressed, she didn't wait for the driver and drove off herself.
She knew the place Xavier and Gerald used to drink so it was easy to get there.
....
"Come on that phone was expensive " Gerald yelled at Xavier who had pushed his phone out of his hands down to the floor.
"It's mine remember" Xavier angrily said.
He frowned and got up, "Am leaving have to get home to my pregnant wife "
"So your leaving me here after calling her out " Xavier roared.
"Yeah.... you're crazy, mad and bossy. Let your queen handle you " Gerald waved back at him as he walked out of the place.
...
Liana rushed into the dimly lit room looking for Gerald and Xavier. It was quiet with one person at the bar.
She stopped recognising his frame. His head moved noticing the presence of someone.
"Xavier?" she called him.
He shifted looking back to see her there standing in the centre of the room. Dressed in short pants with a familiar white shirt that was too big for her. Her hair seemed wet, for he noticed the water drops on the shoulders of the shirt.
He blinked looking away when he met her surprised gaze.
"Xavier, what happened? Where is Gerald and "
"Go away...". said Xavier.
"What?".
"It was Gerald who called you and his gone. And fine so please leave " he muttered.
She scoffed.
"Are you serious...I drove all the way here thinking something had happened to you and all I get is this "
He remained silent.
She could not read his face for he was in more darker space.
"Why did you let him call me then if you're fine " she asked.
"I tried to stop him ". he answered.
Silence filled the room as the slow music played in the background.
He heard her footsteps walk out and the grip on the glass he was holding tightened he flinched back when it burst into pieces in his palm.
....
"Your back" Joy hugged her husband.
"Mmm, I think Liana is already there now," he said.
"Do you think it will work out?" she asked.
"It has to...they need to stop being childish and solve whatever is bothering them" he took her feet gently massaging them.
Joy smiled, "I know but Liana seems to be in a messy place now."
"And so is my friend, Liana is his everything. And the more she runs away from him, his world crumbles " Gerald muttered.
"I hope they resolve it ".
"They will " he kissed her feet earning a giggle from his wife.
.....
His head was spinning and his vision blurry, "it's been a while since I got drunk" he thought.
Xavier tried to open his eyes but failed, his ears were ringing and his head seemed heavy.
Groaning he moved vaguely to the entrance trying to head to his car. But his legs couldn't move straight at all.
"Before I knew it I was falling and suddenly a familiar sweet scent surrounded me as a warm embrace held me.
My heavy eyes felt blurry as I tried to catch a glimpse of who had caught me but I failed".
"Come on love.. let's get you home " I heard.
"Liana " I called out.
"Mmm" she answered dragging me into the car.
He breathed as his arms held onto her. Her hold on his body tightened as they left.
