Chapter 11: Secret Petroglyphs

ABIGAIL’S POV

John sat beside me in my truck, as I drove down the bumpy dirt road. The creaking of the old truck filled the silence along with the kicked-up rocks that bounced around inside the wheel wells of my truck.

It was like music to my ears, and I peered over to see how John was sitting with one knee up higher than the other and holding onto the handle on the ceiling with one hand. His bicep flexed and caught my attention. He lifted his left hand to gesture towards the front windshield, “So it’s down these dirt roads?”

“Yeah,” I cleared my throat and turned my attention back to the road, wrenching the steering wheel in my hands. “My grandpa used to take us on these crazy drives.”

“Really?” John let go of the handle to lean his elbow on the side of the door, resting his head on his fist.

“Yeah,” I laughed. “My grandpa once drove by a bull while driving down dirt roads. One of my younger sisters was wearing a red shirt and he joked that the bull was going to get ‘er.”
