Chapter 10: Sisterly Advice

ABIGAIL’S POV

I sat at my desk in my room, playing with the wildflowers from John. They reminded me of the meadows in spring and of being a kid running through them. There was something warm, nostalgic, and homey about them. It was like coming home after a long day of being away from my family. Like when I had walked in the door and dropped my suitcases. Safe and sound. I felt...well, safe.

I didn’t know the last time I could say that I felt that way. That I got to relax my shoulders and let my hair fall down my back without being worried someone would hurt me. I licked my lips and thought about John and how he brought the best out of me. Maybe my mama had been right; sometimes others bring our true selves into the light.

“So...” Charlotte sat on the foot of my bed and picked up the opal-hued knitted blanket on the end to play with it in her lap. “Tell me about John.”
