Chance
I reach out to my purse and slip a pill into my mouth afore going out.
I walk into Aziel working on his computer. He is so immense in work so much so he did not perceive my presence. I move to the kitchen to assist Auntie in any way I can.
In the kitchen, she sets out separate bowls and ingredients.
" Do what I do " Auntie Lucy, tells me before preheating the oven.
I follow her steps by breaking and whisking the eggs as she did.
" How long have you been married? " she sounds chummy.
" Five years ". I cream the butter and sugar as she did.
"Mmmmm You know despite knowing your father killed my only sister. I only allowed you into my house because he brought you here and I love my nephew. Look, my nephew has dated a lot of girls and he has only brought two of them to see me. " she sprinkles salt and I do too. " So, I know the girls he brings to me are special to him. "
I smile faintly at auntue Lucy before tasting the mixture.
" You are the second girl he brought. Five years ago he brought a girl named Daniela and now ..you. I would give you a chance to win me over but you will have to get your chance by baking a better cake than me "
.. " Thank You for the opportunity " I reply adding flour to the mixture.
" It's for my nephew " she winks at me.
I blush uncontrollably not getting it .
After a while, she added " How long "
" What " I peer around stupidly
" Your pregnancy "
" I found out yesterday " mutter I calmly, stealing glances at Aziel while he does his work from the window.
" Does he know? "
" Not yet, I am hoping to tell him tonight, " I say excitedly, mixing the dough with the mixer. It feels so natural, I think I love baking.
" Don't? "she says icily.
" What," I ask shocked by what she said. "Why shouldn't I tell him? " For a moment I presume she liked me. What a fool?.
" Trust me, not yet " she smiles at me and tastes the dough before nodding happily.
" When? " I added milk, just in case.
" Until I say so " she pours both mixtures into lubricated baking pans.
Until she says so, is this a test or what. Why should I not tell him?.
" Go ahead and join him, I will be there in a second " she hugs me slightly.And tends to the cake in the oven.
In a daze I take a seat by him, our conversation remains in my mind. He brought Daniela here meaning they were to take their relationship to the next level.
" You loved her, didn't you? " my voice is husky as I try not to cry.
" What? " he folds his laptop and gazes at me.
" Daniela, you were in love with her, right. " my voice is shaking and unsure. My heart hopes for a negative answer but I know it's untrue. She is the only girl who broke up with him, that signifies something great.
" Are you jealous? " he chuckles as though I said a joke.
" That is not the answer I deserve," I said in wrath.
" Yes, we were to get married," he says truthfully taking possession of my hands. " It's all in the yore. I will never cheat on you, you are mine forever. "
Without thinking and filled with doubt, I blurted " I was told , you proposed to her at the mall "
Suddenly, he starts to laugh. His laugh is so intriguing, and charming exposing his white and equal teeth. It makes me smile for a while.
" As a joke. it was a joke, we laughed at it later. We could not help it " he burst into a fit of laughter again.
" And..was it Daniela's idea "
" Yes, " he mutters .
I knew it. She is very schemy and would suggest something that vulgar.
"We wanted to recreate a scene we saw in movie years back " he laughs again and kissed my knuckles " I love you so much, that is the truth "
" Which ring did you use? " I am not convinced. Kaelie would lie so much just to target me.
" It's her stepmother's" he opens up his laptop and continues to work.
I swallow hard because a part of me believes I am only a fling in comparison to Daniela. Yet the fact he brought me here, says I am special or not a fling or temporal.
Why can't I accept he loves me...
