Chapter # 16

James was now attentively listening to Ms. Karen as he didn't want to miss anything out. Ms. Karen then said, "Well teleportation magic is off-limit for now, so this year we will solely focus on elemental magic. Elemental magic, as from the name uses natural elements for offensive and defensive purposes". She then casted a water shield on a tree and threw a fireball at it. The fireball and the shield were gone but the tree remained intact.

Then she continued, "There are 4 basic elements: earth, fire, water and wind". She said this while demonstrating a spell of each element. "There are also....". Ms. Karen said, "Two rare elements: lighting and gravity".

She then said, "As you have noticed, these elements are abundantly present in the environment. So, we harness them". Then she chanted a spell and a bookshelf appeared. It contained loads of books but all of them were the same. Grey colored cover with a thick silver band around it acting as a lock. Then she continued, "These books will teach you a basic spell with the element that you are most compatible with. But it doesn't mean that you will not be able to learn the other elements. They just take more time and concentration to use and master". She then handed each of the student a book and then the shelf vanished.

She then said, "As you have already felt it, the moment you held this book, it felt like it was trying to suck something from you, right?". James thought that he didn't felt anything, what was she talking about. Then he noticed that all the other students were sweating. Then Ms. Karen said, "this is no ordinary book, this is a spellbook. A spellbook is a book which engraves a magic formula in the mind of its user. But as you have noticed, it's locked. It requires mana to unlock a spell book. The higher the rank of the book, the more mana it will require".

She then continued, "Now I will need you all to focus, feel your freshly opened mana veins and the mana present in them". All the students closed their eyes and concentrated. James tried and succeeded, they were like normal veins, but a warming sensation was felt when you try to focus on them. And the mana that was flowing in them had a rhythmic beating.

Then he heard Ms. Karen said, "Good, you're all are doing great. Now send that mana. from the veins to the book, through your hands". It was easier said then done. But, James did it under a minute. When he opened his eyes, the book was vaporizing into glittering particles and Ms. Karen was shocked.

On seeing her face James said, "Mam, have I done something wrong? Why did the book

vanish?". Ms. Karen then closed her mouth and have him a small smile and said, "Well if there was a thing like fastest first-time book opener then you have probably won it". Then suddenly James felt a shock, several different colored inscriptions appeared in his mind. Then he said, "Mam, didn't you said that this will only teach you one element? But in my head, several have appeared". Ms. Karen opened her eyes wide and with a smile and said, "Wow James! You must be one of the lucky ones who are compatible with several elements. Now, how many elements did you get?" James was about to say something when all the other students also gradually

succeeded and Ms. Karen went to their aid. Some of them were heavily sweating, some were on their knees. And fortunately, some students (Other that James) were without any problems.

Then the aftershock of inscriptions entering knocked out some more students. They were all now given some time to rest before actually practicing the magic. They were all sitting in the grassy fields, in the shadows of trees. One tree was occupied by James and his friends.

After some rest, it was time for action. All students formed a crowd and Ms. Karen summoned 6 floating targets. First was Ryan. Ms. Karen said, "Now Ryan how many elements did you get?". Ryan said, "Only one mam, Fire". Ms. Karen then said, "Now then my boy, try to understand the spell you got and imagine it. Then cast; Fire magic First verse and the name of the spell"

Ryan concentrated and thought for a moment and casted, "Fire magic First verse, Fireball". A decent size fireball appeared on the magic circle that was on Ryan's hand.

"Good work! Now try to aim and throw it towards the target", said Ms Karen. Ryan smiled and grabbed the fireball like it was an actual ball. Then he took a stance of a baseball player and threw it in the direction of thee target. It directly hit in the bullseye and exploded the target into pieces. Then he turned in the direction of the teacher and students and

bowed.
