"Are you the secret love-child of Naruto Uzumaki?"
To any of the other members of class 1-A, the deadpan stares would be intimidating. But Todoroki's abusive childhood has left him with so little social awareness that he's completely unaffected.
"Oh, is he still around in this timeline? In mine he's a distant ancestor."
Their heads whip around so fast it's a wonder they don't get whiplash. "YOU'RE RELATED TO AN ANIME CHARACTER!? THAT'S FREAKING AWESOME!"
Kaminari's shout has the animal Alternates' ears flattening as they both scowl at him. "Watch it, Pikachu, or I'll turn you into a cactus."
Her threat elicits a round of chuckles, though there are a few notable exceptions who take it at face value. They've seen such a wide range of capabilities from their classmate's Alternates, can they really discount her actually being able to follow through on it?
Evidently not, seeing as she gets annoyed by the laughter and snaps her fingers, causing a cloud of smoke to erupt under Kaminari, obscuring him from sight. When it clears, they see that their classmate has been replaced by a yellow cactus with a pattern of black flowers shaped into a lighting bolt near the top.
Now, the class knows they should be shocked. Horrified. They should be trying to fight her in order to get her to turn their friend back to normal. But after the day they've had, dealing with the more threatening and chaotic versions of their usually mild-mannered friend? This is basically nothing.
"Ooh, ooh!" Mina raises her hand as she jumps in her seat. "Could you turn him into an actual Pikachu!? If you do that to half the class, we could have a Pokemon tournament!"
Kitsune blinks at her for a moment before looking over at the Alternates lining the wall behind her, who are giving her their own appraising looks. She nods understandingly before snapping her fingers again, repeating the process that turned Kaminari into a cactus to reverse it. "I didn't actually turn him into a cactus," she explains while Kaminari frantically pats himself down.
"Kitsunes have been well known in the mythology of my world as tricksters, and part of my abilities reflect that in me being able to make illusions. I also have increased physical abilities, fox fire, and can transform into a fox."
"Ability? Not quirk?" Midoriya asks as his pencil jots down notes so fast that a line of smoke rises from the tip. "And, sorry, weird question, but not really if you've been here as you said, did something related to you dying cause your powers to manifest."
Several heads snap towards him, though Bakugou is the only one who scowls. Those whose concern for his mental state has reached an all time high are starting to think they should walk him to Hound Dog after the Alternates get sent back, instead of trusting him to go himself. Or tie him up and carry him. Not that they don't trust him of course! But he's never been particularly… good, at looking after himself. Which is only reinforced by the fact that, so far as they can remember, the first time he's fought without breaking something is when they did the Provisional License Exam.
Kistunes coughs into her hand before looking away, scratching at her cheek. "Well… yes." She waves her arms in front of herself. "But I didn't try to kill myself! I mean, I thought about it after All Might crushed my dreams -which of us hasn't?- but I couldn't do that to Mom. I actually got caught in the crossfire when Endeavor was fighting a villain and set me on fire, which awakened the latent power in my blood passed down from the Kyuubi."
They look like they're going to continue before sighing and looking at the ground in resignation. "…And turned me into a fox loli. Officially nobody knows why, but before that I was a boy."
"Officially?"
"Don't ask." Kitsune grimaces, studiously ignoring Midoroiya's question.
There's silence for another moment before Broccoli appears behind her, patting her on the shoulder. "Girl good. No wrong."
She looks over her shoulder and gives him a grateful smile. "I've been like this for a while, so I don't really mind anymore. Thanks though, most people just laugh." He nods happily before teleporting to Emerald and twining themselves around her legs before laying down at her feet. She raises an eyebrow but shrugs it off, since it satisfies her pride as a dragon to have someone literally at her feet.
Todoroki raises his hand again, repeating his question since it was never answered. "So you are related to Naruto Uzumaki?"
She rolls her eyes. "Yes, very, very distantly, apparently. Way back before people even had cars or stuff." She sighs. "From what I've learned, back during his time most people could use a kind of power called chakra, and-"
"We know already, fox bitch." Bakugou says as he keeps one disdainful eye on Midoriya and the other on Kitsune. "Here, your ancestor is a fake ass character and has a show that revolves around him. Ending was pretty decent, despite how jackasses decided to crap all over it after."
"Hey! There's nothing wrong with Boruto!" Bakugou just glares at Sero.
"First of all: never said Boruto, so you just called that one crap. Second of all, he's a loser and a baby. A fucked up little whiny bitch who's constantly bitching that his dad has an important fucking job!"
"*Cough* Otaku *Cough*" Bakugou glares at Uraraka who looks away and whistles innocently.
"Well that's interesting." Kitsune mutters. "I wonder if all stories have actually happened, either in the reality they originate from or another. Does this mean that all books, movies, anime, and other such mediums for storytelling are true? Even if they're only true in another reality, that raises an interesting point for stories that detail travels through the multiverse. It could imply that each world has had a multiversal visitor at some point in time, and when they leave that reality they write down its history and publish it as works of fiction in other worlds to spread awareness."
"But then that would mean that they could be preparing that reality for the possibility that those realities will be making contact with each other, so neither is entirely ignorant of the other." Midoriya picks up her muttering, adding onto her analyses, followed quickly by the others who seem to use their minds. So all of them except Broccoli, who's started dozing off between Emerald's feet.
Bakugou, scowling, raises his hand to cause an explosion and stop them, but sees Broccoli crack one eye open and stare at him with challenge. Remembering the sensation of getting buried in the floor, he reluctantly lowers his hand, his scowl becoming more prominent as Broccoli gives a satisfied purr.
It takes a few minutes, but with eight versions of Midoriya all analyzing the same thing, they're done far sooner than they otherwise would be. They all send each other smiles, making comments on how nice it is to have other people to analyze with at their own pace. Usually they have to either slow down for them to understand them, or write it down so people can look it over after the fact. But clarifying and explaining just doesn't have the same satisfaction as analyzing in the moment, and it helps them to perform a deeper analysis than they otherwise would.
Just then, Midoriya has a thought. "Hey, basically everyone has mentioned their mom once, right?" There are various nods though Midosagi scowls. "But… what about our dad? I know Midosagi said that his is All Might-"
"Was! I killed him, and he stopped being a father when I was diagnosed quirkless!" Midoriya just waves Midosagi's objection down with a disinterested air, causing All Might to cough blood in disbelief at how easily his successor has dismissed his death.
"Sure, sure, whatever. My dad ran off after I was diagnosed quirkless. Did he stick around for any of you?"
Quirkless shakes his head. "Same thing happened to me, ran off after the diagnosis and haven't seen him since."
Broccoli shrugs. "No daddy. Shadow Mommy dinners Mist Mist sometimes. But Mist Mist more mommy. Less daddy." There's a collective and silent agreement among everyone to pointedly not address that. They have a feeling they're better off not knowing.
Analyst waves his hand. "Mine lives in America for work. Actually lives in America for work. He calls and sends money, but Mom and I rarely see him in person."
The twins share looks. "Ours-"
"-ran off-"
""-and abandoned mom."" They scowl, their hands going to their waists. ""We'll kill him if he ever shows his face to us.""
Deku-null points at Quirkless and Midoriya. "Same as you two. Ran off."
While each of them have been speaking, Emerald's mouth has slowly been morphing into an angry snarl. "Lucky bastards." She growls, and the statement isn't exactly wrong since their father is out of the picture, and is essentially horrible across all of them. "Mine threw me inside a volcano! And my mother approved!"
Everyone stares at her in shock for a moment, unsure of how to process that. Eventually, Kitsune clears her throat. "And I thought mine was bad when he tried to force his way back into our lives after abandoning us."
Midoriya looks at her, grateful for the more normal event than both parents throwing one of them inside a volcano! "Really? How'd that turn out?"
"Arrested for child abandonment and adultery. Apparently he got married to a woman whose husband ran off after their kid developed a 'villainous quirk'." She scowls before her face softens. "He's pretty nice though, and we trained to get into the hero course at UA together."
Midoriya breathes a sigh of relief while holding a hand to his chest. "Thank god you're a hero. I was too afraid to ask after the line-up we've had."
Kitsune eyes the violent and villainous Alternates. "Yeah, I can see your point. I almost gave myself away every time one of them said they weren't a hero." She shakes her head. "I mean, I just can't imagine it."
"Which is why I'm going to be one!" Deku-null says with a finger raised, feeling the need to reiterate that he at least started as a hero.
Sunpo sighs from her position under Emerald's arm, absolutely done. Maybe she can join her father for his next stunt overseas? She thinks that doing a stupidly dangerous stunt that's likely to result in hitting her head is very needed. If she's lucky, maybe she'll lose her memory of this entire day!
"Are we finally done? I want some hot chocolate or something."
Getting gestures of approval from everyone, she raises her hand only to be interrupted again! "WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU WANT!? DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW MUCH OF A HEADACHE YOUR ALTERNATES HAVE GIVEN ME!?"
She shouts at the one she didn't think would object, the local Midoriya, who sheepishly rubs the back of his head. "R-right. Um, sorry. But I just have a few questions for them. Privately, if you don't mind?" He looks at Aizawa for permission, ignoring All Might since he's not the one in charge of the class. Getting a grumble of assent, he nods and gets up.
"Ok! Um, Midosagi, Broccoli, Emerald Dragon, and Kitsune, would you mind following me?" He looks at Sunpo and Kodai still in Emerald's arms before clearing his throat. "And um, I'd appreciate it if you left those two here? Sorry."
Emerald shrugs, gently placing them down before walking out with the other named Alternates, who have curious looks on their faces. But Sunpo stops Midoriya and whispers in his ear before he can follow them out. "You have five minutes, then I'm sending them back. Do not bring them back here!"
He nods in understanding before he leaves, closing the door behind him. The class waits, those who were previously concerned becoming more and more uneasy as the time passes. At the four minute mark, Sunpo raises her hand, starting to channel her quirk to close the rifts.
But the Alternates haven't been idle, talking amongst themselves. It's only when they see her starting the process that they stop, Quirkless clearing his throat and turning to Aizawa. "Um, so." He puts his hands together and takes a deep breath. "Did anyone else notice that he only called out the versions of us that have quirks?"
"...That is a thing I noted, yes." Aizawa eyes him warily, but is more inclined to listen to this Alternate since he's one of the only two that are actually trying to be a hero.
Analyst raises an eyebrow. "And you were paying attention to how most of them said they obtained their power, correct?"
Aizawa nods, not entirely sure where they're going with this. But before he can ask, Uraraka, of all people, curses and jumps out of her chair, throwing it back before running out of the classroom. She's quickly followed by Jiro, Shoji, and Todoroki. Meanwhile Bakugou curses and jumps out the broken window, using his quirk to propel himself.
The rest of the class sits in shocked silence while Deku-null giggles maniacally. But it's the twins' words that have the rest of them shooting to their feet in denial, and causing Aizawa and All Might to run from the classroom with horrified realization on their faces. The Twins' words echo among the chaos they leave behind as they vanish in blue bursts of light.
"He's going to-"
"-try to kill himself-"
""-to gain a quirk.""
