You know, even knowing before hand that there was forest level of Jurassic Park dinosaurs in the bottom of an underground dungeon, it still felt weird. Especially that soft, suffused light source imitating the sun on the 300 feet tall ceiling and the stifling humid air of the self contained ecosystem.
"Scarlet Spear!"
Yue shot a spell at another dinosaur in out path. This one had a flower growing out of it's head just every other dinosaur we had faced earlier. A sign of it being controlled by someone else. A dryad or araune. Like Poison Ivy from Batman, this female humanoid monster could shoot out spores that could turn people into her puppets. Thankfully, this body, the Monster Clone had biological resistance as a skill.
How did I know that?
I went and got an ID plate from the adventurer's guild in the town above and found out.
An ID plate was an artifact that could measure stats and denote skills that a person had along with a lot of their details like age, condition, guild rank and for people of this world, a job they were suited for.
Sonetimes the job came with associated skills too.
All that was needed was a drop of blood to be put on it.
In my case, it listed the job as Researcher, with a job skill Frequency Emission, which I guess is how this world's system recognizes my technokinesis.
Interesting!
Even though I'm not from this world I get a job and skills assigned to me?
And it even recignized the stat boosts I had.
Easily 1200 plus in all stats.
I even had some skills Hajime didn't get in the original story, like Petrification Eyes and Hair Needles among others.
Guess it's because he had leveled up before he had the monster flesh and so it adjusted to his body whereas in my case this body had no magic in it at the start so it gave it an extra boost?
Or maybe it was the devouring attribute coded into my psychic circuitry.
Either way the ID plate was a neat artifact!
I wonder how that works?
I'll have to find out once I get the Ancient Magic : Creation.
So many new and interesting things here! I can't wait to learn about them all!
I smiled with excitement, when Yue fired off another spell, decimating a group of dinosaurs heading our way.
It made me realise something.
"Is it just me or did the number of dinosaurs attacking us increase as we moved in this direction?"
"No. They definitely increased." Yue agreed.
"Then the Dryad controlling them should be right this way!" I said picking up Yue and activating a skill I had gotten from consuming the monster Kick Rabbit, Divine Flash Step.
In an instant, I disappeared from the spot and tearing across the forest towards the Dryad's location.
Suddenly, a hirde of dinosaurs appeared on the horizon chasing after us. There were even some big ones there. I saw a two headed rhino t-rex hybrid and one stegosaurus with eight legs and three tails.
Bet they've got some nice skills!
I stopped in my tracks and strafed the charging mob with my particle beam, cuttinf through the first line like butter but the beam petered out at the second line, only injuring them lightly while the rest of the mob collapsed, tripping on the fallen first two lines.
I looked on the stamped and the dino-pile in disappointment.
It was the one weakness of the particle beam.
No. Not dinosaurs.
Blooming and dissipation.
Long range, a particle beam emitter small enough to fit in my watch couldn't keep up the output.
Particles don't like to stick close together. It's a fundamental law of physics. And the particle beam's insane cutting power came from pushing them into a hyper concentrated stream, using this same force to slice through the very atoms that hold things together.
Far enough from the source and emitter, they began to dissipate fast.
A bigger emitter could certainly do the trick however.
On my ship I even had one big enough to slice a galaxy in two.
Here too, with the low tech haphazard setup, I still had a couple of those in the lab but they were a bit bulky so I didn't bring them along.
Nevertheless, this was a good time to try out some of my new skills, eh?
"Yue." I said, handing her my forcefield generator, "Stay here. I'll deal with these."
"No, let me-"
"You've done enough, Yue. Let me handle this."
"I just want to be useful." She said pouting.
I pet her head, assuring her.
"You have been useful. But now, I just want to test out some of my new skills." I said.
"Besides if you use too much magic you'll need to drink blood again. And you don't know how to control yourself." I pinched her cheeks.
"I didn't drink that much..." She sulked.
"You literally drained half of all my blood." I reminded her.
"Uuunn.....Jay. Petty." She pouted.
"Sure, sure." I said, "For now, just watch my back and see me be awesome!"
Yue looked up at me and nodded with an 'Uhun!'
I smiled, cooing inside.
She was just so adorable!
I shook my head.
No. Focus on the horde first.
I tunred to see the dinosaurs getting back on their feet and beginning their charge again.
Good. I didn't want to have a boring fight. Even if it was a test.
I flared my arms out, activating the skill I had gotten from the Claw Bear.
Air Claws!
Claws made of compressed air.
Simultaneously, I activated ankther skill, one I git from the lightning wolves.
Lightning Clad!
Combining the two, however, was my real intention. A pocket of insulating air hollow in the middle, and arcs of lightning captured within.
Lightning Claws!
Sheer awesomeness in the palm of my hand!
I looked at the charging horde and let loose my killing instinct, as they stopped in their tracks, hesitating for the briefest of moments, their natural instincts overpowering the mind control if the dryad for a fraction of a second.
And that was all I needed
Flash Step!
I disappeared from my spot, and appeared above the horde, spinning like a top with a mad smile on my face, jumping into the fray as time seemed to tick by drop by drop.
Storm Shredder!
My lightning claws tore through the horde, charring flesh, the meat melting right off the clean sliced bones of my prey, amidts a horrid cacophony of slaughter, the dying cries of the horde sweet music to my ears.
I ran forward, towards the eight legged stegosaurus as it brought it's three tails to bear on me.
I stepped to the side, and activated another two skills, those that I had gotten from the Behemoth on the 65th floor and the two gate guardians, the cyclopses posted on Yue's prison.
Strong Arm, which strengthens my muscles with magic, giving me boost in power and...
Vajra. A skill that hardens the exterior of the body to a diamond like toughness.
Just as the stegosaurus's barbed tails slipped past me, I moved forward, and with all my power kicked the barbed ends of the tails sending them flying through it's own body.
They slammed into it's tough turtle-like shell, and before it could so much as whimper, they cracked and burst through, splattering his body across the grassy floor in six separate bloody chunks.
I grinned with ecstasy turning to the two headed rhino T-Rex next, and it charged me straight. This time I didn't avoid his charge.
Strengthening my arms, I grabbed it by the horns, with both hands and with a mighty heave lifted it into the air, tossing it high in the sky.
I looked up activating Air Walk and Flash Step at the same time, as the seconds seemed to slow down into minutes and I shot up into the sky, jumping across platforms made of air till I reached above the T-Rex.
I looked into it's eyes and gave a malicious smile, as I raised my hands in the air, clutching them into a hammer.
"Die~"
I slammed my hands onto its back, cracking it with a wet squelch, sending it straight back down like a meteor.
It crashed onto the forest floor with a thunderous boom, sending an earthquake across the floor, uprooting entire trees as a crater formed at the point of impact, filled with the bloody sludge and flappy leather that was once a fearsome beast.
Ah!
I always wanted to do this, at least once after watching all those Dragonball Z fights!
I descended from the sky, and hopped over to Yue happily as she looked over at the carnage with surprise.
"Pity....." She muttered, shaking her head.
I like that attitude. No mercy. No moral quandary about the slaughter.
I made the right choice picking her after all!
I took back the forcefield generator from her and collected corpses of the horde via portal before turning back to the direction I was heading.
In the distance, I could see it now. A small crack in the dungeon wall. A narrow cave. And within...
I activated my Petrification Eyes, targetting the cave and evrything inside it, and a shriek rang out l, echoing thorughout the level as the dryad succumbed to my skill and began to die.
We walked over to the small cave leisurely now and watched as a half petrified dryad stumbled out from her hole, falling to the floor helplessly.
It looked up at me and began to beg for mercy but before it could utter a noise, I stamped on it's head, crushing it.
"Jay....brutal." Yue commented like a child watching fireworks. Gleefully.
"Well, I didn't want anything bad to happen at the last moment like I don't know maybe she took control of you like she did to those dinosaurs, y'know?" I excused.
"Best to avoid the drama."
"Jay, you don't understand a maiden's heart, at all." She teased playfully.
"Hn? Of course I do!" I said, proudly, "I even charted it out mathematically. I have a whole algorithm for it!"
"So boring...." Yue rolled her eyes theatrically.
I knelt down, cupping her face.
"It's better to be boring than to let you get hurt, isn't it?"
Yue blushed, making a cute noise, looking at me and nodded.
Heheheheh.
Bet that earned me some points with her.
Small things like these, a couple times a week and I'll have a hundred percent loyalty guaranteed!
I gloated on the inside.
Of course, I didn't just do it to manipulate Yue.
The dryad was actually dangerous.
In the novel, it let out spores that took control of Yue and Hajime had to shoot past her to kill it.
And I am not half as kind as Hajime. I'd have ripped through Yue to get the dryad.
Yue was immortal after all.
But that's not going to sit well with Yue, will it?
She'd probably sulk about it for a while and be pissy.
All that passive aggressive shit women do.
I wasn't about to go through that drama myself.
I like to end things nice and quick. No one liners or monologues. Unless I'm tearing the heroes a new asshole or two. In which case I will relish their suffering every single moment.
Another portal opened up beneath it's corpse and it disappeared into my freezer for later consumption.
Now, onto the last level of the dungeon.
"This is it Yue." I pointed to the staircase leading down into the cave.
"The last level of the dungeon."
Yue looked at the staircase woth resolution and nodded.
"Let's go. Let's get that Ancient Magic!"
