Ignited

"Female… what are you called?" A light, hesitant, female voice says in my head. I freeze, my head going a thousand miles an hour, Holy Macaroni and Chicken Nuggets! I stare at the creature and it's staring at me intently. I must be going crazy, I shake my head and the creature squints its eyes, slightly.      "You heard me?" The same voice says in my head. Without thinking, I nod in response. The thing releases a face of surprise, it's eyes widening, its muscles relaxing a teeny bit. I keep my eyes taped on it, or I'm guessing her. I'm so surprised that I can't speak, so… I try to speak in my mind back, "Umm… Hello? Yeah, I can hear you? whatever you are… No offense."  I really don't want to get this thing mad. It looks even more bewildered when I'm guessing it hears me.  "Hello, as I was asking, what is it the humans call you?" I hesitate when she asks this, I just met this creature, closely reminding me of a dragon. Like, two minutes ago, should I trust her? Then I realize, I thought that out loud.  "You can trust me, no one knows about me. By the way, yes  I'm a dragon. The answer to your last question." I think of what Chris said earlier, "… or a dragon perhaps…" No, Chris has a funny imagination, maybe it's just a coincidence. Yeah he really doesn't believe in dragons…. does he? "I'm Samantha, my friends call me Sam. What's your name?" The dragon's eyes smile slightly, glad that I chose to trust her. "My name…" she says in my head, hesitant, "is Emberlynn." A mix of fantasy, romance, coming of age, and adventure. Authors note: Hope you all like it and ALL comments/suggestions/ideas are welcome. also I'm trying to decide if this should be a trilogy or not. *need help on that* if you could, THANKS A BUNCH! ^-^

Ch. 13: Hiding Truth

 Sam

After Emberlynn's weird encounter with my face, I reach back to the cut, nothing's there, just tender skin and a burning feeling on my back. I stretch to relieve the ache. I look back at Emberlynn, she stares at me, "What did you do? Why did you do that? Emberlynn what is going on? Why are you caring for me? Are there others like you? How-" Emberlynn's voice interrupts my thoughts.

"I healed your wound. I did that because I care for you. I have a feeling that you're important to me. I'm alone for now.  All I know is that you know about me, and you need to be in your normal life but I need to know if I can trust you. Can I?" Her head hangs low so the eyes of my dream stare straight back at me. I lose all my words and thoughts, I lose myself in those eyes, those bright blue with dark blue speckles all around her iris, these eyes can see inside my soul, just staring into these eyes, my mind leaves my being. I am aware of her waiting for my response, I blink a couple of times to clear my mind.

"Yeah, you can. What are we going to do? You're a dragon, I'm just a small, weak human compared to you."  My mind starts going haywire, making unreasonable plans about her and everything.

"You are not weak. The proof is you being awake after getting that wound. Also, we are going to hide. You're going to go through your normal life and I'll stay here. Hiding and staying out of sight. Don't tell your friend boy too. Understand? She makes it very clear that she really wants this to be a secret.

"My safety is in your hands…" Emberlynn whispers in my mind, I release a breath I didn't know I was holding, this can't be happening. First, a dragon, a freaking dragon, finds and heals me, and then says we have to keep this secret of her existence!

Well, I think I can do this, Dad always said that I was trustworthy. I close my eyes for a second, finalizing my decision. I open them gazing into those reptilian eyes.

"Yes," I say, nodding my head,

"I understand clearly. I will keep our secret, but what about us? Will we have a meeting type of thing? Or speak secretly in our minds?" I ask.

" Because Winter break is here, and I don't know what to do since now… I'm just… speechless… wow." I say, my mind racing about everything that's happened today.
