Charlus was all set to go to the Flamel Manor. He had his luggage packed, his wand in his hand, the bracelet and the necklace Sirius gave him through Madame Maxime. He looked at his friends one final time and bid them goodbye. Then he went along with Madame Maxime to her office.
"Mr Potter. I believe Mr Flamel will apparate here and go back along with you."
Charlus was confused.
"Apparate? I thought that wasn't allowed in the academy."
"It's not possible for normal people. Nicholas Flamel isn't normal. He is the founder of this Academy."
Charlus was intrigued by the new revelation. Suddenly, he heard a pop sound that distracted him from his thoughts. Nicholas Flamel had arrived.
He was dressed in a simple black robe. He had a cane in his right hand and a wand in his left. He looked at Charlus and smiled.
"Boy. I have been looking forward to this meeting. Maybe we can go to my Manor and start having the discussion that you and I both want to have."
Charlus nodded. Madame Maxime assumed that Nicholas Flamel was just talking about how excited he was about having a pupil.
"Respected Board Member Flamel. I would like to express my admiration for you in single-handedly establishing this institute."
"I am flattered, Headmistress. I am sorry but I have to be on my way. I am sure we can have this conversation later."
Nicholas took Charlus' hand and apparated away.
Flamel Manor | 19th September 1988 | 10 AM
Charlus and Nicholas Flamel apparated into the living room of the Flamel Manor. They were immediately greeted by an enthusiastic house elf.
"Maxy is so happy to see master. Master Potter and Master must want water?"
Nicholas Flamel felt thirsty, so he asked for some.
"Get some chilled."
"Yes, Master."
The house-elf apparated and apparated back in a few seconds with a chilled glass of water. She then looked at Charlus and asked again.
"Can Maxy get some water for Master Potter?"
Charlus was confused still.
"How do you know my name?"
Maxy answered naturally.
"Maxy served Master Potter 4 years."
"What?"
Nicholas Flamel intervened.
"Charlus. As I said, we have so much to talk. Why don't you have a seat?"
Charlus sat down.
Nicholas started speaking.
"As you know, I saved you when you were a child. But you don't know everything. So now, I am going to tell you what happened."
Charlus started listening intently.
"I saved you from a few death eaters who were planning on killing you to send a message to the light side. I was there to save you because my wife, Perenelle Flamel, had a vision that told me to be there to save you. So I saved you.
However, when I got here, you weren't in perfect condition. Since you were a baby, you couldn't handle the magic. You were going to die. So I did the thing I thought that would protect you."
Nicholas Flamel paused for a second.
"Charlus. This might be hard for you to comprehend. You are no longer simply human."
Charlus didn't immediately comprehend what Nicholas Flamel had said.
"I'm sorry but I didn't understand what you said."
Nicholas Flamel explained.
"I introduced your blood to the blood of a Phoenix. In the four years that I kept you in this Manor, the blood merged into your blood. You woke up after these four years and I sent you to Dumbledore's. After 8 years, you became half-Phoenix and half-human."
"Does that mean I'm no longer related to my parents and... um, Harry?"
Nicholas Flamel shook his head.
"You still have your human blood. You are related to everyone you were related to till now. That hasn't changed. What has changed, however, is how society will perceive you. Society... people fear the new and unexplainable things. You are a miracle. Seeing you are a Half-Phoenix, you will easily become one of the most, if not the greatest wizards of your time."
Charlus shook his head.
"Strongest wizard? I couldn't perform magic until you told me to take off my bracelet."
Nicholas Flamel laughed.
"Who do you think gave you that bracelet boy? I did. I did it to make sure none of your powers leaks out and so that people will not know that you are not a Phoenix. That bracelet stopped your magic from coming out."
Charlus suddenly became angry.
"You stopped my magic? How could you? I thought I was a squib! I was afraid I didn't have magic. So what if people find out I'm Half-Phoenix? Big deal! Fleur is Half-Veela. There are people like me everywhere."
Nicholas didn't flinch at Charlus' angry. He continued speaking, unperturbed.
"A Veela is a creature of fire. Just like the Phoenix. The Phoenix, however, is higher up the food chain. Do you know what happens when a person of lower magical strength is under the constant release of superior magic power? They do not develop properly. Your friend would not be able to properly perform magic, as would all your friends if not for that bracelet."
Charlus suddenly quietened down when Nicholas explained his action.
"I'm sorry. I... I didn't know." He said quietly.
Nicholas Flamel smiled.
"Of course you didn't know Charlus. You are unfamiliar with yourself. You are still new to the wizarding world. I want to fix that. I want to make sure you can control your powers and learn how to defend yourself in this world. I want to pass in my life learned skills to you. I want you to be my one and only protégé."
