Chapter 3

Standing in front of my board filled with evidence, I was completely lost.

We don´t have a suspect or a motive. What we do know is that Nate Scott was brutally murdered in his own office.

We know that the murder weapon was his own gun, which indicates that the killer knew where he was hiding the revolver. That means Nate knew the killer. Mrs. Marshalls and his wife all have an alibi, and nobody else was seen going into or coming out of the building. Maybe someone doctored the security footage that was given to us.

"Pierce, can you send me the security footage we were given?"

"Right away, boss.", he started typing something on his computer.

A moment later I got a link to the video.

I click on the video, not expecting much. There were two security guards standing and talking by the door. A few feet behind them was a woman cleaning the floors. I skip a portion of the video until I saw Mrs. Marshalls leaving the building like she told us she did. That was around 9:35 PM. I skip more of the video and still nothing interesting was happening. Except now there was only one security guard standing by the door and the cleaner was gone. I skip more of the video. The next person that entered the building was a man in a nice suit around 7:30 AM this morning.

That´s interesting.

Which door did the cleaning staff use then? I dind´t see them walking out through the main entrance.

"Pierce, would you be a doll and call up the security team again?"

"Well, of course. It´s not like I have anything else to do, Brown.", he picked up the phone, ready to dial the number," What do you want to know?"

"Ask them if they have any other cameras beside this one. It´s imposible that a building this big has only one entrence and only one security camera."

I turn around back to my computer. It was 8 AM on the footage and the lawyers working in the building were seen entering the building and going straight to the elevators.

I look at the empty cup sitting on my desk. I turn to Pierce again, wispering if he wants some coffee. He nods his head once before returning to the phone call.

I start making my way to the kitchen, and straight to the coffee machine.

I put the two coffee cups on the machine and press a button. While waiting for the coffee, I look through the window and soon I was away in my own thoughts. That was until I felt a light brush on my shoulder. I turned around quickly, not expecting Hart to be standing next to me.

Smiling.

I always get mesmerized by that damn smile.

He is doing this on purpose now. That´s the problem with me. I can never hide my feelings because I always start to blush like an idiot.

"Am I seeing blush on your cheeks, Rosalie?", he says, coming closer to me.

I never knew my name could sound so pretty and colourful coming out of someones mouth.

Only out of his mouth, of course.

His mouth.

Those wonderful pink, soft lips.

Oh shit, I am staring at his lips, aren´t I?

I regain my focus, and look up into his eyes again.

"I have absolutely no idea what you´re talking about, Hart. Now get back to work."

I grab the two cups, which were now filled with hot coffee. I turn my back to him, ready to get the hell out of that kitchen.

I failed at that mission because he was now holding my hips from behind, not letting me leave.

"You look adorable when you blush, Rosalie."

His chuckle ringing in my ears.

I look at him quickly before going back to my desk as fast as I could.

"There you are. Did you go to Colombia for that coffee?", Pierce asks while grabing one of the cups out of my hand.

"You´re hilarious. Did you find anything out?"

I sit on my desk, trying to concentrate on what Pierce was saying, but I just couldn´t hear him.

A moment passes.

"Are you listening to me?"

"No. Can you repeat that again?"

He rolled his eyes at me before sipping his coffee again.

"I said that there is one more entrance which is connected to the garage. The staircase leads to every floor, even to Scott´s office. And there is also a camera placed on every staircase, so I asked if they could send me the video footage from those cameras. But guess what? Every camera has been down since yesterday afternoon. They are still trying to get them to work."

That´s why I didn´t see those workers leave the building because they were leaving through the back door.

"Do you think this could have been an inside job? Only someone who works in that building would know where the cameras have been placed."

"It´s a possibility. You never know who you´re working with."

We look at each other suspicisuily before we started to laugh.

"We need to interview every person working in that building and we need to make sure they are not lying about where they were at the time of Scott´s death."

"I guess I have my afternoon filled?", Pierce looks at me before taking another sip from his cup.

"Exactly, and take Jenkins with you."

I look around before turning to Pierce again.

"Where is Jenkins anyway?"

"He is probably in the basement, flirting with Susan"

"Oh, so you noticed it too?"

"Of course I did, Susan get´s really loud all of a sudden when she sees him."

"She is very nervous around him, bless her little heart."

Pierce nods his head before saying," I could never be with someone I work with, though. I believe that you should keep your private life, private."

I look at Hart sitting at his desks behind Pierce. He was writing something.

"You´re absolutely right. I too could never be with someone I work with."

End of chapter 3.
