Planet: Tarsonis
Year:2524
Place: Confederate ??? Academy
0900 - type-2 Gymnasium 01, PSI101 - One week later
Caesar along with 59 recruits had been lined up along the gymnasium's far wall. In front of them was its 10 lane 800-meter track, opposite to them were Suki and Lisa.
They stood within the room's observation deck looking down upon the kids. To their left, the academy's scientists watching the outgoing data.
They all glanced at Suki, who seemed to possess an unnatural control over the kids.
'How does she do it?' All of them thought, watching her step forward. She tapped a button on the command console before opening her mouth.
"Hello and as some of you may know my name is preceptor Suki or miss Suki to the ones I've taught from the beginning." Said Suki, she paused to look upon her returning recruits and their smiling faces before continuing.
"Today the 60 of you have been gathered here because you have been deemed the most promising with your age group." Suki tapped another button displaying a list of names.
"For those of you wondering, this list does reflect your current ranking within your age group and will have some impact on your future status." Her words rang within their ears.
"Sarah Kerrigan, Rahul Mehta, Lokee Haxum, Jonathan Samir, Victoria Mastuda, Bryce York, Ivory, Kai Mustang, Yasha Chandra, Caesar Augustus…" Read Bryce, he turned, sneering at Caesar. Before raising his hand to say.
"Excuse me miss Suki, are we allowed to learn what the ranks are based off?"
Suki rolled her eyes while saying. "The ranking system was based solely around your training results. Which recruit Caesar seldomly completes without receiving deductions for preceptor Kalen.
Now. Going forward this will be your psionics class and I, the instructor. You are not friends, you are rivals and enemies. And as such, there will be no training dummies since you'll be practicing on or against each other. But make no mistake! You are not here because you are the best, you are here because you show promise.
And if you continue to show promise, you will be allowed to learn better, more advanced psionic techniques. However, if you fail to meet my standards. Not only will you be bard from this program and these techniques, but you'll be bard from the advanced psionic class. In short, you'll be deemed the best out of the replaceable cannon fodder."
Suki's words hit harder than anything before, they caused the kids to clench their fists in pursuit of power and out of fear of being deemed fodder. But what most didn't realize was that successful or not, they would always be deemed replaceable.
"NOW! Recruits rank 1 to 10, on the track and when you fall, stay down!"
---------- one minute later-------
Sarah, Rahul, Lokee, Jonathan, Victoria, Bryce, Ivory, Kai, Yasha, and Caesar lined up along their prospective lanes. #An: Sarah's lane 1, Caesar lane 10 #
Suki's voice boomed across the room's loudspeakers. "Up until this point, you've all been practicing the basic psionic abilities, speed, sight, senses separately and normally you have continued doing so for another month. But starting today you'll be practicing them in tandem with each other." With that, Suki went silent and the kids bent down.
*Beep!*
Their psionic energy churned throughout their lower body.
*Beep!*
The churning hit an apex, enhancing the recruits' lower body muscles, bones, and nerves.
*BEEP!*
The kids burst forward. Bryce, the slowest of them shot clean through the 25-meter mark in just under 4.5 seconds! He glanced at Victoria, who was already a full half-second ahead of him. But when his eyes turned back the ground below him shifted downwards! Causing him to faceplant across the track.
While the others sprinted on. When their burst came to stop, to the onlookers' surprise Ivory had built a clear lead. She flew over the rising obstacles and through the shifting track.
"She used too much energy on the initial burst." Murmured Lisa, she was studying Ivory's vitals. As the young girl reached the 70-meter mark.
Lisa smirked while Ivory's foot hit the ground that part of the track. Causing it to lower and a hurdle to rise. She tried to jump over however it leaned forward, catching her by the knees.
She went tumbling across Victoria's lane, who jumped over her. To receive a dodge ball across the face.
As Victoria went tumbling into Samir, he grit his teeth and reached out for Lokee's arm. Lokee tumbled, his outstretched legs clipped the back of Rishul's, bringing both boys down.
"You piece of shit." Growled both boys, watching Kai and Yasha quickly surpass them. The two were neck and neck, stride for stride.
Their targets, Sarah and Caesar. Both of which were steadily pulling away. Kai glanced towards Caesar and noticed him smirking as he lay eyes upon the empty lanes.
"SHIT!" Yelled Kai. His shout pulled everyone's attention over to Caesar, who lept over a rising hurdle. As the psionic energy churned throughout his body, hitting an apex once more. Caesar's foot hit the ground, and his body shot across the track. Staggering Kai and Yasha while setting off a variety of traps.
Yasha stumbled headfirst into a padded pillar while Kai stumbled, spinning into an inside lane. He grinned yelling "There is no trap here!" As the floor below him opened up.
"You can't do that!"
"That's not fair!"
"CHEAT'N SKUNT!" screamed the watching kids, they glanced up to Suki with hope-filled eyes. But when she scoffed across the PA system their hearts dropped. "The only rule is to use any of three psionic abilities we previously practiced."Stated Suki.
Her words caused the kids to turn back, clenching their fists in awe, and jealousy. "Caesar's no big deal, Clark would be there too if it wasn't for Kalen's abuse. Clark's Getting stronger every day and one day he'll catch up. So will we."' Whispered one boy, comforting his friends.
They continued watching Caesar and Sarah weave between the first and second lanes. Always trying to outpace the other while setting off trap after trap. Caesar with his raw strength and restricted psionic energy, Sarah with her thick, and deep psionic energy.
Caesar leaned into Sarah's lane, causing her lane to shift down while three dodge balls shot towards her. The children leaned in as they watched Sarah hurdle over the first two balls while catching the third. She dashed into Caesar's lane but he ducked into her's. Smirking ear to ear.
Sarah's eyes widened as Caesar shifted into her original lane a padded wall shot up where he used to be! Sarah sidestepped the wall, clipping it on her way into the outside lane. She stumbled watching Caesar's back shrink by the millisecond.
Her hope began to fade and with it her courage. Replacing it was the fear of returning to isolation.
'No!' Thought Sarah, gritting her teeth.'I don't want to go back!' She echoed as relived memories of her time in permanent isolation. The psionic energy within her intensified enhancing every bone, muscle, and nerve within her body. 'I can do this!' Yelled Sarah, her thoughts permeated across the class. Attaching every telepaths attention.
Caesar glanced back to see Sarah dashing towards him like a maddened cheetah. She lept over hurdles of various angles, broke through wooden planks, pulling within meters of Caesar's back. His head turned back as he noticed a thin layer of psionic energy permeating around her body.
'SHIT!' Thought Caesar.
"I WIN!" Sneered Sarah, whipping the ball. It ripped through the air, be lining towards Caesar back at a clean 80 miles per hour. He spun, jumping in the air with his head lowered and his arms raised. A two-foot padded wall rose behind him, it covered both lanes.
The ball sent Caesar bouncing clean into the wall.
"I WON!? I WON!!" Yelled Sarah, her smile as bright as day. It was her first in years.
"Wow..." Murmured a few of the boys, it had been months since they've seen a smile and her's was something they'd never forget.
Their eyes lingered as her psionic energy faded and her body slowed down. Her eyes lingered on Caesar, who lay on the floor thriving in pain. 'She worried!' Thought the boys. Her kindness was genuine, which was rare within this facility.
"Are you ok?" asked Sarah, jogging towards his aid.
"I never set off all the traps." Said Caesar, smirking with pain.
"Wah--AAIIEEEEE!!!" *SPLASH!* "FUCK YOU CAESAR!"
'He really is the devil.' Thought the boys.
#An: This chapter is about teaching them how to use said abilities in tandem with each other in a high-speed environment.
And I'll admit, I did this chapter because I hit a writing wall. #
