"You are late." a deep hoarse voice startled Lea when she got into her office.
The man sitting in her chair, whose back faced her twirled around and their eyes met.
" I'm sorry Sir, it won't happen again," Lea said in a low voice and lowered her gaze.
"Mm...this is the third time you've reported late to work. How can I then trust you that it won't happen again?"
He questioned and tilted his head to the side.
"I promise Sir, It won't happen-"Lea's words were cut off when her boss stood up abruptly from the ergonomic office chair.
" I don't want this to happen again. Is that clear?" he said in a stern voice when he came to stand in front of her.
"Yes Sir" Lea replied with her head bowed slightly.
"The Scotts will be here in a few hours to sign the contract we discussed last Monday. Make sure the documents are ready before they arrive," he instructed in a strict tone, giving off the bossy aura he always emitted which kept people on their toes.
"Yes Sir" Lea responded affirmatively.
Her boss spared her a glance and walked out of the office, his designer shoes clicking on the clean marble floor as he walked away to his own office.
Lea took in a deep breath and strode toward her desk, she slumped into her chair and gave out a sigh of relief.
She was finally rid of her boss' overbearing and domineering nature.
Mr. Xander Stark was the CEO of the Stark company. He was the oldest son of the family and had inherited his father's company after his demise.
He was a strict and proud boss who liked everything to go his way. He liked things to go perfectly and always pushed his employees to do their best. His cold and overbearing demeanor always gave his employees the shrills, except for Lea who was able to tolerate him fully.
Lea looked over her table which was stacked with piles of work. She sat up in her chair and started going through the files one after the other.
Meanwhile, Nicole who had equally arrived late walked elegantly to sit at her desk. Heads turned in her direction and faint murmurs were heard as she strode toward her desk.
"She's late and she is walking like she owns the company."Avery, one of Nicole's co-workers said to her other friend Dalila, who was sitting at the next desk close to her.
" I can't wait to see her embarrassed face when she is fired for her lousy and arrogant behavior." Dalila sneered."She thinks just because her sister is the boss' secretary, she can behave any way she pleases."
Nicole who saw the two women murmuring to themselves the moment she entered spoke in a harsh tone,
"What are you two gossips chatting about when there is work to be done."
Avery and Dalila turned in the direction of the voice that was directed at them.
"Are you talking to us?" Dalila asked, pointing to herself and Avery.
"Who else? Can you see any other person busily running their mouths when they are supposed to be focused on their own work?" Nicole asked in a mocking tone.
"And who are you to tell us what to do, when you can't even report to work on time?" Dalila questioned. She felt her temper slowly rising due to this girl's pompous behavior.
"It's absolutely none of your business the time I report to work."Nicole retorted.
"And how is it also your business what we are talking about. It's best if you mind your own busi-"
Dalila's words were cut off abruptly by a sharp stern voice.
"Will you girls shut up and get to work?!"Mrs.Greta's loud voice boomed in the room." We have guests coming over and instead of you focusing on your individual assignments, you are there bickering at each other, wasting precious time. If this gets to the boss's ears, I'm pretty sure you two would be punished severely." she berated them like an annoyed mother who was scolding her stubborn child for dropping her expensive glass plate.
Mrs.Greta was the general overseer of all the workers in her department. She was the oldest member of the department and she was feared for her strictness and her ability to persuade the boss into firing anyone who was behaving out of line.
The two girls kept mute and Avery glared at Nicole who returned the glare with a sharper one.
Both girls directed their attention to their various desks and got to work.
Mrs.Greta glared at both girls and walked back to her assigned office.
A few hours later, a small fleet of black sleek Mercedes cars parked outside the company, and a stoic man dressed in a luxurious tuxedo stepped out of one of the cars.
He walked gracefully toward the company's entrance, where the door was opened for him by one of his bodyguards. He was welcomed by a beautiful slender lady who accompanied him to her boss's office.
Lea's shoulders tensed up as she led the man to Xander's huge office.
Mr.Logan Scott, a man who looked like he was in his forties, was a very popular businessman who ruled the business world. It was said that no one could shoulder this man when it came to business except for...of course, Xander Stark, who was a co-equal to the renowned businessman. This was the second time Lea was meeting him but she still felt somewhat awkward in his presence, probably because he gave off a cold and imperative aura that suffocated her to the brim.
He was followed by eight men who were dressed in black suits, his bodyguards inclusive.
"Good day, Mr.Scott." Xander stood up and greeted when the all-time businessman entered his office with four men behind him. His bodyguards were waiting for him outside.
"Good day, Xander Stark." he greeted back in his deep gruff voice.
" May we proceed to the conference room?"Xander said while leading the way to the room where the short meeting would be held.
Mr.Logan followed Xander to the conference room where they began discussing the details of the business deal.
Meanwhile, almost all the workers in the Stark company were on their toes, because of the presence of the renowned Mr.Logan Scott in their company. They didn't want anything to go wrong in his presence, not that they did when Xander was around but it seemed as though the pressure had doubled due to the presence of the all-time businessman in their company. Everyone was on their best behavior, not wanting anything to go amiss.
Back in the conference room, the deal was being finalized.
"Lea, where are the documents?" Xander asked and Lea handed over the file that was in her hand to her boss.
At that moment, Mr.Logan's eyes fell on the young lady who was talking to her boss, and a mild feeling of familiarity seared through him.
He didn't know why but the lady,...she looked so...he couldn't identify the feeling he was getting right now.
His focus came back to the business deal at hand when Xander pushed the opened file in front of him on the huge table.
He grabbed a pen from his front pocket and signed the papers after going through them thoroughly.
"It's officially finalized," Xander said when all of the men at the table stood up. He shook hands with Mr.Logan and congratulated him.
"Congratulations on the business deal."
"Same to you, Xander Stark," Mr.Logan said and released his hand from the firm handshake.
"My pleasure doing business with you, "Xander said and they all proceeded out of the conference room.
