Iyare got back to the mansion at about 7 pm that evening. She immediately went to her room to have her bath and returned downstairs for dinner. She has not eaten there since the poisoning incident.
After sitting at the dining table, Iyare asked Merry to call all the workers together. Since Cece was dead, someone else needed to take her place. Sam has been running between the security and taking care of the house. She wanted him to focus on security.
Safety was paramount, especially since she could not be certain that only Cece and Josephine were connected to Charles.
Everyone gathers around the dining room in less than five minutes. They all had different ideas about why Iyare called the meeting. Some believe it was because of Cece's death. Others thought it was because of the police visit. After all, none of the workers was aware that Cece was involved in the poisoning incident that happened.
Iyare did not have time to explain anything to them. In fact, she just wanted to announce who would take Cece's place. Of course, Josephine was among the staff waiting for Iyare to state the reason for their meeting.
"A position in the household is currently vacant. So I have decided that Merry will take Cece's place overseeing all your activities." Iyare chose Merry because she felt she could trust the woman.
Although she knew she could not trust her blindly, she was willing to give her a chance.
"But MA, I was next in line to Cece," a maid in her thirties objected.
Iyare looked at the woman and smiled. Of course, this woman has not seen Iyare angry. she felt it was unfair to take away the position that should belong to her. Why would Iyare change the rules of the house without explanation? Merry was the least qualified for the post.
Taking Cece's place means more money. Every other staff in the house will be focused on showing her respect. She was going to be the one giving orders and running the house. She will be the second in command in the house.
Anyone will be happy to have that position, and it was hers as the oldest staff next to Cece. Merry has barely worked for two years; how could that woman become her direct boss.
"If you have a problem with my decision, you are free to resign," Iyare answered her calmly but coldly. Anyone who heard her speaking knew that she was obviously irritated by the maid's interruption.
The maid quickly bows her head and shuts her mouth. Not many employers give the kind of incentive they receive in this mansion. Moreover, this maid was very good at scheming.
She had already decided to ensure Merry's work was a failure. That way, the position will come back to her. She did not want to draw too much attention to herself now.
"Since I almost got poisoned, I think someone to taste all my meals before I eat," Iyare continued when she noticed the maid's reaction. "I believe that I need someone who knows about poison. So I am appointing Josephine to be my new taster. After all, she could detect the poison in the coffee she served me the other day," Iyare explained.
Everybody in the room became confused when Iyare said this. What did she mean? They wonder. Is it possible that someone else tried to poison her, not Josephine?
"Josephine, I intend to increase your income; after all, your new job is quite dangerous. But if you can't do it." Iyare made a deliberate pause and looked at Josephine. "Then you are free to join Cece," Iyare stated.
Everyone except Josephine became even more confused by what Iyare said. Someone concluded that Iyare was hinting that it was Cece who tried to poison her. After all, they all knew Charles would get the most significant benefit if something happened to Iyare.
So it was reasonable to conclude that Charles killed her after their attempts failed. But Josephine understood that Iyare gave her this job as punishment for trying to poison her.
If she decides to leave, Iyare will kill her. She was sure that Iyare could not let someone who knows her secret be let loose without being able to monitor them.
Josephine had already concluded that Iyare knew all her late father's contact. Otherwise, how was she able to frame Charles so easily. With this in mind, she believed that if she tried to run, Iyare would definitely find her, and she would be dead.
She was an orphan trying to survive in an unfair world. So she decided to take the job. After all, if she were careful enough, she would not get poisoned.
"I will take the Job," Josephine answered, bowing her head. She did not dare to look at Iyare, not after she watched the way the woman killed someone before her and acted like it was nothing. This woman was definitely scary.
"Good," Iyare replied when she heard Josephine. "Now serve my dinner; I have things to attend to," After Iyare gave this order. Everyone went back to their duties.
After having dinner, Iyare returned to her room and continued studying the document she returned with from work.
After studying for a few hours, Iyare decided to go to bed early.
....
While Iyare was sleeping peacefully, a figure was seen in another part of Quee city. His fingers were moving fast across his laptop.
He had a grin on his lips. The thought of the chaos he was creating kept him in a good mood. "This is a perfect gift," he thought to himself.
The thought of having Iyare and fooling her was making him very happy. "Let's see how smart you are," he said aloud as he pressed the enter button for the last time.
He smiled at himself and even patted his back for a job well done. He could not wait to see Iyare's reaction the next day. His imagination was already running wild. To him, Iyare stole what belonged to him, and he could only get it back.
