Iyare got to the office and was not surprised to see the pile of documents on her table. She immediately sat down and got to work. Before now, she needed Shelley to do a lot of explanation for her before she signed, but after sleeping for seven days, everything flowed to her naturally.
It was almost lunchtime when Iyare heard a knock on her door, which was pushed open without waiting for her answer. Shelley walked in with her usual expressionless face. She expected to meet Iyare while reading the books she recommended for her the last time, but she was shocked to see she was reviewing documents.
Iyare had never worked without her, so she got curious and took one of the documents she had worked on. To her surprise, everything seems fine. So she dropped it and checked another one. After going through four documents, Shelley was convinced that her boss knew what she was doing. She then remembered what Drick said last night.
"So she was only pretending?" Shelley thought to herself, that she would never have believed it if someone had told her about it. "How funny, this boss of mine must be a fox; perhaps she acted that way to see if I would miss lead her but now that she is convinced, she is showing off her actual abilities," Shelley took a deep breath and then look at Iyare with admiration.
"Maybe if I were this humble to know and understand the people around me, I would not have lost my seat," Shelley thought. "Well, betrayal was inevitable; I just trusted the wrong person," she comforted herself. She immediately shook the thought off. What's the point of crying over the past that can not be changed.
"Miss Amina's plane took off ten minutes ago,' Shelley Informed Iyare, who was engrossed in her work.
Iyare nodded her head in response. "The HR went through her boyfriend Cv; they are quite impressed. An Email for a formal interview was sent to him. We have to hope he accepts; then everything will go according to plan," Shelley explains.
Iyare stopped what she was doing and looked at Shelley. "I want HR to interview him like every other person", she said.
"What if he fails?" Shelley asked. The test and interview process to get a job in Ona's group was very difficult; she could not help but ask, knowing that Iyare wanted to employ the man because of her friend.
"Then you Employ him anyway. I don't want him to be suspicious of anything. Besides, don't you think if we lower our standards, he might feel the mail is fraud?" Iyare asked.
"You are right; I will definitely tell HR this," Shelley said.
Iyare's reasons for asking that he go through the rightful test was a way to find if he was worth it or if she was just doing a friend a favour.
"What position should he get?" Shelley asked.
"If he passes, employ him as a staff; if he fails, he should be employed as a contract staff for one year," Iyare answered. She wanted Amina to come, so the man had to be employed.
Talking about friends, she remembered that she had promised Adrian a treat. "Is Adrian in the office?" she asked Shelley.
"Yes, he just got off a meeting," Shelley answered.
Iyare was surprised that she knew all about his activity. "Are you keeping tabs on him?" Iyare could not help but ask.
"Yes, I have to; we are not sure of his motive for taking this job. He could be interested in your position, just like his father.
Besides, rumours have it that your father would will his property to him before he changed his will at the late minute. Don't you find it strange that your father did not leave any share? I mean, he could have given him a small amount of shares, right?" Shelley shared her concerns.
"You are right," Iyare agreed. Mr Onosa had 70 percent shares; he could have given away five or ten without affecting Iyare's position as the major shareholder. "I need his cell phone number," Iyare said; she could not figure out why her father acted the way he did. Even if there was a chance that Adrian was just like his father, Iyare still had to fulfil her promise.
Shelley looked at her suspiciously. She was unaware of the treat promised by Iyare since she was not in the meeting.
Iyare noticed the look. "I have to fulfil a promise," Iyare explained things to her. Shelley handed over his contract after listening to Iyare. She thought it was best to draw a bit close and discover his intentions. Iyare immediately made the call after getting the contact; she wanted to get done with the meal and draw a clear line with him.
The call was picked at the first ring. Iyare took a deep breath to compose herself.
<msreadoutspan class="msreadout-line-highlight msreadout-inactive-highlight">"Iyare speaking," she said calmly, <msreadoutspan class="msreadout-word-highlight">introduced</msreadoutspan> herself.</msreadoutspan>
"Oh, nice to hear from you," Adrian replied. He was delighted that Iyare made the call.
"I was wondering if you would be free on Thursday. So I can finally treat you as promised," Iyare went straight to the point.
"Sure," Adrian accepted immediately.
"Okay, I will send you the time and place once I make the arrangements," Iyare said and ended the call without waiting for his reply.
"Let's eat lunch," she turned to Shelley. She nodded and got up from her seat. "Also, make arrangements for that dinner and put it in my schedule," Iyare instructed, and Shelley nodded her head as they both stepped out of the office.
"Do you think Adrian will try something funny like poison on the date?" Iyare asked. Although she knew poison could not harm her, she needed to act like an average human.
"Well, I can't say for sure, but since we are making the arrangements, we can't be too careful," Shelley answered.
"Hmmm, you are right. Send him the time for the meeting tomorrow but wait till an hour or a few minutes before sending the venue; that way, he will not have enough time to plan any surprise attack," Iyare said.
"Right," Shelley agreed; she felt Iyare's words were reasonable.
