A Howl in the night

CHAPTER 2- A Howl in the night

Xavier was alone in his room after he had dinner, having a conversation with Jayden on 'Blipper' an online social media platform.

Jayden: [Yo]

You: [Just trying not to die of boredom lol]

Jayden: [Too bad, well I found this video online check it out…]

She sent the video to him, it was a video containing a footage of a person scaling an entire building with a single leap. It wasn't the first time he had seen something like this, it was all over the internet people sprinting faster than cars and so on, and they were given the nicknames 'Gifted'.

You: [I'm pretty sure this guys are just using Photoshop or something]

Jayden: [Yah probably at least more believable than government lab experiments on the run lol]

You: [lol people will come up with anything for views]

Jayden: ["Yawn" I'm gonna get some sleep now, GN TTYL]

He immediately decided to hit the hay and get some sleep, although he didn't have his hopes up mostly because he had been losing out on some sleep for the past few days.

He had a queen size bed, beside it was a wooden table and chair the table held a lamp and a couple of books, other than the large window at the other end, a large closet was at the corner of the room. He liked how simple his room looked, if not for the pile of comic books and manga that were out of place it would have been perfect.

Jayden had 'asked' him to keep some of her beloved comics in his room. It was quite obvious that she was using his room to keep her excess comics.

"Urghh"

After twisting and turning on the bed for hours Xavier couldn't take it anymore, he was starting to think he would need to get help for his recent lack of sleep.

*Clichk*

He closed the door behind him as he decided to go on a stroll, as this was one of the many things he did after submitting to his insomniac state. The night was foggy, but he wasn't surprised the city was called 'Silver mist' for a reason.

After walking alone on the street he had ended up in the local park, he decided to do some tricks on his skateboard which he had brought with him.

Awwoooo~

A howl was heard in the distance as the clouds cleared from the sky revealing a bright full moon. He remained unfazed by the howl although there where sightings of wolves in Silver Mist's forest area, they rarely leave their territories.

"Darn it, guess my front side pop shuv-it, still needs work." He spoke annoyed as he picked up his skate board. He had been practicing a new trick but hasn't gotten the hang of it.

*****

The moon was full and bright in the sky, the air was thick with the scent of pine and damp earth as Xavier walked through the woods, he had been moving from place to place first the park, then to a nearby arcade but it had to close for the night and he had finally ended up in the woods as he strolled. It had reminded him of the hikes he used to go along with his mom when he was little.

Xavier walked alone through the woods as it had finally dawned on him that he was lost, having taken a wrong turn on his hike, as he searched for a way back to civilization.

"Growl!"

Suddenly, a low growl echoed through the trees, causing him to freeze in fear. He was sure he was miles away from the wolves' territory but he had realized that he might have hiked a little too deep into the woods. He turned around slowly, trying to pinpoint the sound.

And that's when he saw it- a massive, hulking figure emerging from the shadows. Its fur matted and its eyes glowing with an otherworldly yellow light. It was a creature only found in horror stories, movies or nightmares, it was a werewolf.

Xavier instinctively tried to run, but it was too late. The werewolf lunged forward, its jaws snapping shut around his shoulder as it took a large bite out of it, and it had moved at an absurd speed that Xavier couldn't comprehend.

"Arrrrgggghhh!!!"

Pain shot through his body as the werewolf's teeth sank deep into his flesh. He screamed, but the sound was cut short as the werewolf dragged him to the ground.

Xavier fought back with all his might, but it was of no use. The werewolf was to strong, too fast. It tore at his clothes and skin, leaving deep gashes and bloody wounds in its wake.

And then, just as suddenly as it had attacked, the werewolf vanished into the night, leaving him lying on the ground, bleeding and broken.

Xavier knew it was over but he wasn't in any way relieved, he knew he was dying he was no fool. But even as he slipped away into darkness, he couldn't help but feel a sense of awe at the sheer power and ferocity of the creature that had attacked him.

Is this… how I'm going to die?"

"I'm so sorry mom, I'm leaving you all alone…"

'Jayden… thanks for being my only friend…'

'So it's true your life flashes before your eyes before you kick the bucket huh…'

'Well, Dad get ready I'm joining and I know I'm going to get a scolding for leaving mom all alone, but I guess I take after you.'

Multiple thought flashed through his mind as his vision turned blurry mostly due too much loss of blood.

Xavier hadn't realized, but he was bleeding from all seven orifices but it wasn't a normal crimson red as his blood should be, it was black in color.

"I'm going to shut my eyes for a little while…" Xavier thought as the life in his eyes faded.

Just before his eyes were fully closed it had suddenly glowed with a bright red crimson color fortunately, the werewolf wasn't there to witness it.

For better or for worse, he had encountered a werewolf- a being that was both terrifying and awe-inspiring in its primal strength and wildness. Unknown to him, this would lead to a spiral of events that will forever change his destiny and that of everyone close to him.
