Xiao Xi is shy.

"Xiao Xi, eat more, look how skinny you have become!" Madam Lu complained and urged Meng Xi as she stared at her with a slight frown. To her, Meng Xi was simply too thin and she could not stand the sight of it.

"Have the Meng family become short of food lately?" Madam Lu complained and shook her head. She used her chopsticks to pick a piece of meat and was about to place it on Meng Xi's plate when Meng's next words caused her to freeze.

"Do not worry about me, this is my normal stature, Madam Lu" Meng Xi subconsciously uttered with a polite smile.

Madam Lu's hand froze midair, the chopsticks pinched between her fingers quivered and she looked at Meng Xi with a shocked expression.

"Xiao Xi, what... what did you just call me?" She queried.

Meng Xi paused and dropped her chopsticks, she was slightly clueless when she saw the elderly woman's shocked expression. She blinked in confusion and opened her mouth.

"Madam Lu?" She uttered softly.

The chopsticks dropped from Madam Lu's hand and her face paled.

Meng Xi's body jerked and she nearly fell off her chair, she was shocked, she could not understand why the woman looked so grave. She instinctively turned to Lu Jingze and was met with his frown. She felt even more confused.

The man calmly placed his chopsticks on the table and looked at Meng Xi before opening his mouth.

"Xiao Xi, tell me, how did you address mom, just now?" Lu Jingze questioned.

Meng Xi arched her brows, "M–"

The word Madam Lu was hanging on her tongue and she nearly spelled it out when she suddenly stopped and a thought popped into her head, her eyes widened and she looked at the elderly woman. Her gaze became immediately solemn.

"Mom," She voiced and lowered her eyes. For a moment, she had forgotten her status as a married woman, she let it slip her mind to address her mother-in-law properly. She had never even thought that the elderly woman would count such a thing.

"I made a mistake just now," she added and lowered her head.

"It is okay, it is okay, I understand you, you are new to things like this. Now that you know your mistakes, don't repeat them. Don't worry, I won't blame you. Look, the food is going to turn cold if we don't eat them" Madam Lu said and her face blossomed into an indulging smile.

"Thank you, mom" Meng Xi nodded and smiled in return. She secretly heaved a sigh of relief and buried her head into the food in front of her.

"Jing, look how your wife is such a good child. She is so obedient, you must treat her well. Let me tell you, a wife that is comfortable and well taken care of in her husband's home will always lead her husband to success and prosperity because the man will have peace of mind and he will be able to work properly" Madam Lu stated.

Lu Jingze smiled, he waved his hand and a maid quickly wiped off the stain on the table and replaced Madam Lu's chopsticks with a pair of new ones. Then, he threw a side glance at Meng Xi and then looked at his mother calmly.

"No worries, mother, Xiao Xi is my priority now, and naturally, I will make my wife happy" the man voiced.

The sound of his voice and its deep and velvety texture caused Meng Xi's heart to skip a beat and her body trembled slightly. She bit her chopsticks and lowered her lashes. The man made everything seem so real but she knew it was indeed only a small time before their marriage come to an end.

She suddenly felt a hint of guilt towards Madam who listened to his son with enthusiasm and her face could not even hide her joy.

She was the one who proposed the marriage in the first place but now, she also felt guilty that she was going to crush the elderly woman's hope sooner or later when she is able to get the divorce.

"Eat, eat!" Madam Lu's voice abruptly snapped Meng Xi out of her reverie, she looked up and smiled at the woman. She picked the piece of sweet and sour ribs Madam Lu placed on her plate and ate it gratefully.

"Xiao Xi, I just noticed that you and Jing actually have the same food choice... you like the same kind of food and it is actually nice! I just realized that you two are a perfect match, a sweet perfect match made from heaven!" Madam Lu voiced happily.

Meng Xi who was in the middle of drinking water nearly spat out the water in her mouth, she dropped the cup and covered her lips, she let out small coughs, and turned her red face away.

"Aiyoo! Jing, your wife is so cute" Madam Lu sweetly said.

Meng Xi heard this and nearly rolled her eyes, who is cute?! She was almost dying from the woman's continuous teasing, okay?

Lu Jingze was amused when he saw Meng Xi's face, the corner of his lips raised slightly and he looked at his mother.

"You think that she is cute, mom?" Lu Jingze said and raise a brow.

"Yes, don't you think Xiao Xi is cute too? She is really shy" Madam Lu voiced as a matter of fact.

Hey, you two! I am still here, okay?! Meng Xi roared in her head.

"I think she is rather brave... Ah, that reminds me, I must have forgotten to mention this to you, Xiao Xi actually proposed to me. She did not even give me a chance to ask her out" Lu Jingze said.

"Really?!" Madam Lu's eyes widened as though she just discovered a bag of gold worth gossip.

Lu Jingze snickered seeing his mother's reaction. He cocked his head and threw a look at Meng Xi whose face darkened and eyes widened in disbelief.

"Is that so, Xiao Xi? You propose to Jingze?" Madam Lu was so eager to know the full story that she did not notice the deadly look in Meng Xi's eyes.

"Lu. Jingze!" Meng Xi gritted her teeth and gripped her chopsticks, her anger was transferred to the poor sticks and it nearly snapped into two.

Lu Jingze ignored her anger and even teased her further, "Mother, your daughter-in-law is truly shy this time, let's finish eating" he playfully said.

"Ah, yes!" Madam Lu said and winked at her son. She was about to pick her chopsticks but as though she remembered something, she smiled thoughtfully and looked up.

"Forget it, it is not good to disturb you two, I will return now and leave you to yourselves!" Madam Lu voiced. She stood up and before Lu Jingze could offer to send her off, the elderly woman escaped the room.

Lu Jingze leaned back in his seat, the edge of his lips lifted slightly and a smirk formed on his face. Meng Xi looked at him and glared.

"You—!" She stood up abruptly and dashed away from the dining room.
