V2 C7 Prophecy

''What do you choose?''

''Is there even a way for us to survive?''

''No.''

His answer shocked them all.

''Then what's the point?''

''The Gods didn't give us a way to survive for us. Nor did the Demons, Angels, and Paladins gave us one. So we have to make it happens ourselves.''

Looking towards a direction, everyone followed his sight.

''The demons left in the safe zone? Why are they here?''

''There would be no risks if all of the demonic creatures were defeated. Didn't he say so in the first trial? Cohesion is important as much as karma is.''

His now calm voice contrasted with the noisy surroundings of the demons that wanted to escape. Of course, demonic creatures would instinctively attack an escaping prey.

''Well, we've already lost enough people as it is.''

He raised his hand and a formation of runes appeared on the ground. Quickly, a blue barrier raised from the ground separating demons from demonic creatures.''

''What?'' Cries of astonishment echoed.

''The energy center is wonderful. Whatever the path is, you can easily form it as long as you have the knowledge.''

Not stopping there, he extended the path as he went, heading towards those who had just joined the area. After forming a formation around them, he deigned to explain the situation.

''When I was little, I was told how this world was created. Do you remember this childish myth? They told me - like each child - that humans had always been weak, inferior to Demons, Angels, Beasts, or Demonic creatures.''

His calm voice now transformed into a slightly angered one.

''That no matter what we did, we humans would always be inferior to others, and that was because we had no path. If demons could become Demons, angels could become Angels, and beasts and demonic creatures could evolve into superior species, humanity was doomed to remain mere humans. ''

His voice became milder as he finishes his explanation.

''This was the context of this myth: the basis of the myth that one day a God took pity on us, creating us a path as it comes to earth.''

Taking everyone's interest, he continued.

''But if humans didn't have a path, why should others? I've always thought so. Maybe some other Gods had taken pity on them, but that's isn't something I have information about. Still, using logic, we can ask ourselves: why would they take so long to grant us this power?''

His questioning left the others speechless. Although they had all wondered about their origins or their power, strength was one of the most sought-after and glorious skills, and if they thought so, they might as well train, then the answers would come to them.

''This doesn't make sense, unless... what we supposed to be the Gods' goals changes. Humans tend to say that demonic creatures are the Demons' pawns, but why are they? No, it would be more interesting to ask: what are they? So, what if they were the Demons' creation?''

While they didn't quite understand what he was getting at, stress began to build up within them.

''The ancient language is quite helpful as our ancestors have left us some clues, and one particular sentence awoken me:

«Gods aren't omnipotent, not these ones at least. »

What if the Gods weren't more than a life that had attained an unequaled strength? Such a life would surely be more complex than a heap of benevolence, creating the following theory: These 'Gods' are only beings we call like that as they manage our world.

In our history, each kingdom or empire seeks only 2 things: to increase its power and keep it; if so, why wouldn't those lives' goals be the same?

If the Gods were truly only looking for balance, then everything would make sense: humans were never beings loved by the heavens, but as their weakness was compensated by the generosity of the Angels, there wasn't any reason for them to act.

One day, however, the demons got tired of this situation and began to search for new amounts of power, something they found in the beasts. Having the best talents, they were definitely the best candidates, but ones who didn't want to help. Already fighting against themselves they were in no way willing to help them. As such, the demons did not hesitate and began experimenting on beasts. This continued until they succeed, creating a power shift and forcing the Gods to act: that's how Paladins were created.''

Most humans were shocked, while the demons only half believed it.

''You are lucky in the end.'' François resumed. ''After all, in 15 years, a catastrophe will happen, killing Demons, Angels, Beasts, and Humans alike.''
