That day

In a dark room, illuminated by a magic crystal, a person was writing a diary.

« I write this diary, in thrust, to pass the time. I know how useless, how ridiculous, it would be to even hope that one day someone would find it. But if that ever happens, then it would be better to destroy it, because even if I want people to read it; if I want them to understand me and feel what I felt, I believe it would be better to forget this part of our history and start afresh. »

...

[Year 644]

« I couldn't write a diary without mentioning this date. The year 644 was special and important in many ways. Although it was not the original cause, nor was it a time where heroes flocked, it was still a major period of change, in which the beginnings of future events could be seen.

That year, it had already been four years since the curse had fallen on the humans of that time, setting them up for a relatively calm climate. Or rather, this should have been the case. Indeed, if there was no difference on a global level, the Southern Empire, otherwise known as the Dhorkar Empire, had without reason noticed an intensification of the invasions of the demonic creatures.

At first, only the numbers increased, and this decadent empire somehow managed to protect its borders, providing the so-called 'shield' defense that humanity had formed. However, as time went on, the demonic creatures grew in numbers to a level where strategic assets had to be positioned to fight them: paladins. As their numbers grew, so did their cultivation and strength, while the number of destroyed villages and cities increased.

Yet, humanity managed to grow in these troubled times.

On one hand, the demonic creatures became equipment for the brave soldiers, this time not only limited to Knights, Paladins, and the wealthy.

On the other hand, humanity became stronger indirectly, usually increasing its strength while the other powers weakened.

If at first angels and demons fought each other interested, they changed their minds, wanting to kill each other as soon as possible. At this point, even the Angels and Demons actively joined the cause, killing many of the children on the other side.

(The 'children' refer to the wingless demons and angels, which is the cordial way they called themselves)

This is why this period began to be called the golden age of mankind.

The years that followed were great! With the demons and angels weakened, humanity took the opportunity to venture further into the forests, mountains, and unknown territory in the form of expeditions. There, they found the beasts, tamed or killed them, and enjoyed an extreme increase in power.

In a short time, humanity's power had more than doubled.

With the new land, humanity was able to grow more crops, and feed its population more easily, allowing for greater training of its population.

Soon, all were dominated by humans, leaving only weak pockets of resistance.

But all things must come to an end. And we gave time to the worst enemy. It wasn't just a few years. From the beginning, the supreme enemy of humanity prepared itself, disguising itself as a pig to eat a tiger.

The golden age of mankind actually hid the age of demonic creatures. »

« Yesterday I was warned that today would surely be the last day. The barrier would break, leaving us at the mercy of the demonic creatures.

So, this time, I'm going to stop forcing myself and just say what's on my mind, forgetting for once the burden of being a historian, a job I was somehow forced to carry.

Some may even think that I am trying to rewrite history, as I am originally from Cleppe. However, it is indeed because I come from there that I can testify to it.

I can testify to this place called Nirl which gave birth to two fantastic heroes. And who, regardless of the unfounded accusations that the place had to endure, gave of themselves for this empire and for humanity.

That is why I consider this day to be my biggest regret. For me, it's the cause of the loss of humanity, or rather, this day doomed the last chance of humanity. I am talking about the first forestry expedition.

The day when the man who would later be canonized died, acclaimed as a saint, having succeeded in saving two of the greatest heroes of our era, namely Rodolphe and Emilie.

The day Alain died. »

...

The person left the room. At that moment, the light illuminated him, revealing the appearance of a muscular man, seemingly in his fifties, his body filled with scars.

Looking away, he saw a red dome invading him.

He sighed

'I don't even know if there was a reason for our existence. If, by existing, we have formed a future worthy of the name, or even that possibility.'

The dome was actually a barrier that should have protected them. Normally orange, it turned red with the accumulation of demonic creatures attacking it from all sides, determined to kill what remained of humanity.

Even the greatest power could not hope to defeat them. After all, while demonic creatures were generally purple, the strongest were black. At this level, it would take at least one knight to beat them.

The red ones, on the other hand ... represented their evolutions.

And this red didn't leave any chance of survival.

'' Commandant! ''

I return to my thoughts.

It's true, I had one last thing to do, to give meaning to futile existence.

For once, the last survivors of humanity, the cowards who had run away before everyone else, were going to fight. And one thing was certain: I was going to make them pay dearly for my life.

...

Nirl - forest.

Alain and the others were on the move, choosing the best targets to fight when suddenly Alain turned around abruptly.

Clutching his sword tightly, he ordered ''get ready!''

Everyone followed his order without question. But no one noticed the sweat that had formed on his forehead.

He wasn't sure he could survive.

Knowledge: The different empires and kingdoms of humanity are all close together. Following the defense of the shield, each empire takes on a main role and direction, while the kingdoms try to help them as best they can.
