Ch 11: Finishing the test

As Euclid walked up to the desk and spoke to the receptionist, she looked up at Euclid for second as if judging wether he would be able to pass, but figured he'd just be another one of of the kids who wanted to give the test a shot and then show off and brag to all his friends; but ignored the thought; as for every person that came to her for a test and succeeded at it, she would get a bonus for it so she just acted exited to meet him.

"Hello there, my name is Wendy, if you'd like to take a test you'll have to sign this form then you can take your ticket number and take the test!"

As she grabbed a piece of paper from a drawer next to her and slid it over to him, Euclid immediately started signing the sheet but came across some problems such as residence location, and groups affiliated with, so questioned about what to do about questions such as these.

"What do I put when I'm currently not affiliated with any groups, and don't have a place of residence?"

"Ahh, most challengers don't have a place of affection, so for things like that just put 'not applicable', and I'm not sure why you wouldn't have a residents of your own; just put the same." She answered giving him a weird look, questioning why he wouldn't know something so obvious and why he didn't have a home.

"Alright thanks" As Euclid spoke he filled out the rest of the paper then slid it back to the receptionist.

"Alright, now your done, here's your ticket and you'll head down to the hall way to your left and go to the door 115 on it and there will be an man inside who will preside over your test, good luck." She finished off; before going back to her own work

"Oh sweet, thanks for your time." Replied Euclid before walking off towards left corridor, going by a couple rooms and finding an ordinary door with the required room number a minute late.

*Knock! Knock! Knock!*

After knocking, he opened the door and walked in seeing an old man at a desk, before instantly recognizing the man from the library who had called him pretentious.

"Oh it's you; from the library, what are you doing here, are you the examiner for the test?"

"Aha it's the brat trying to show off from earlier in the library, and why would you take the test?" The man looked up and inquired.

"I'm not sure why I'd be a brat and when I would have showed off, but I plan to take the test so that I can gain the resources and knowledge that the guild has so that I gain advance my own knowledge and gain a passive income"

"That seems like a rehearsed and sublime response, but do you really expect me to believe someone who spent a minute skimming through a couple rune books could pass this testing, I bet you didn't even understand anything you saw." The old man scoffed in contempt and distain.

"I don't expect anything but for you to preside over my test, and what you currently think is irrelevant; as long as I pass the test, so where do I take the test?" Euclid answered back in a neutral tone and face before asking for the test.

"*Humpf*, we'll see, grap this paper and pencil, and sit in that spot, as soon as you sit down; your test will begin and you will have an hour to complete the test." He replied in scepticism before handing a piece of paper and a pencil over to Euclid; before pointing at a chair directly in front of him as to make sure he didn't cheat in anyway.

"Aha, before we begin; do we have to show our work or how we came to such answer" Euclid asked, although he didn't believe he would have a problem with the test; his understanding and the process at which he comes to an answer is different from this world, so if he used his own understanding of science and mathamatics it could lead to some problems.

"No, everybody has their own way of doing things, so as long as you get the correct answer; that's all that matters. Any other questions." The man replied in increasing annoyance as he just wanted to send the brat away.

"No, and thanks." Replied Euclid as he grabbed the paper and pencil, he walked to the desk before sitting down.

"Your test starts now!" The man spoke up before Euclid even looked at the sheet of paper.

As Euclid looked at the paper, he noticed 25 questions with about a half being math, a quarter being magical circuit structures and the other quarter being rune theory.

As he picked up the pencil; he had already understood the first 3 questions and the required steps to reach the solutions, until he completed the question before the pencil touched the paper.

Just letting his body go on autopilot, while he finished the rest of the math problems before telling the body to write the following answers, until before going onto designing the circuit structures with near perfection and proficiency taking into count the differences between Mana an electricity from the little he read from the library, he had also run simulations with known knowledge to make the rune circuit near perfect.

But instead of putting the near perfect version on the paper, he had written down one that would be around 5% of what he had created in the simulations as the rune circuit that was near perfect would draw to much attention, so he decided to draw a rune that would be slightly higher than what was required, a rank 1 low-medium rune, the original rune required was a, rank 1 low rune, and he continued to do so with the other rune circuit structure questions; before finally moving on to theory.

One rune theory was that whether or not runes could not only tap into physical reality but also metaphysical parts, like fate, and telling and manipulating our future, the question was could runes interact and control the abstract parts of reality.

On topics like metaphysics, Euclid was not aware of most the intricate details like fate, but was aware that causality does exist which was the closest to fate and, anybody can manipulate cause and effect to a small degree, and in the old human world if you knew the past, and are aware of possible interactions and the effects you could build predictive modeling and analytics to predict the possible outcomes and maybe even the future, knowing the future would allow you to alter the outcome.

Although Euclid didn't generally believe in something like fate, as fate was the development of events beyond a person's control, regarded as determined by a supernatural power, he believed that if fate did exist it was only on smaller scales like forcing the fundamental forces to act a certain way or if fate did exist it was because of a another force or individual acting; which would mean that fate couldn't be controlled or even existed as it was all someone else manipulating everything beyond physically reality.

But causality is cause and effect which could be observed, calculated, interacted with, and with Mana you could manipulate it to a more higher and fundamental degree, and runes are just programming and codes in the world to tell Mana and the world to act a certain way, which could change the effect that a change would have had.

After thinking and proposing an answer that wasn't too complicated and would make sense for this world without being ground breaking he moved on to the next few questions which was similar but also different from the first, while formatting the written answers he was finishing the Mana circuit problems, it has only been five minutes and at the seventh minute he had completed all the answer mentally before he decided to take control of his body again and began writing faster and smother than before, and in nine minutes he had completed the test.

"I'm done." Euclid spoke out loud looking back up at the old man who appeared to had been watching him dumbfounded at how fast he was writing and how he could come up with answers so fast, which followed by him being God smacked by how he was already done.

As Euclid stood up and walked over to the man's desk who still appeared to be in a shocked daze, he sat the paper down in front of the man before the man came out of his stunned state before looking at Euclid and coming to a realization.

"Did you seriously just guess every answer, did you even try at all!" the man yelled out the only answer the man could think of, which was that the kid in front of him had guessed for every answer as that was the only way he could be done already.

"Of course I tried and why would I guess, the questions weren't that difficult, plus you haven't even looked at my test how could you come to such a concussion with out even going over the test" Euclid responded in confusion on why he has been accused of guessing.

Euclids reply reminded the man that the test paper was right in front of him so he could see the kids answer for himself.

Looking down at the paper he started checking the answer with his own copy that had all the answers, slowly going over the mathematics; every question was answered correctly, on the Mana circuit structure part; the answers received was above the average and required usual responses previously provided by other test takers, and finally the theory part, the answers was easy to read and made since and the responses were at a satisfactory level.

But all of this just confused the man more as he had seen Euclid not only reading just a few books in the library; which was not enough to do this well on the test, maybe pass but not score perfectly on the test, plus Euclid hadn't stopped for a moment to think about one question in the entire test nor did he ever appear stumped, it was as if he had already known the answers to the question which would be impossible considering that the test questions are randomized so no two tests are completely the same so somebody couldn't use one test to help cheat another.

An addition to that all the responses appeared to be completely new as he had already read all the elementary rune books in the library and the answers given by Euclid wouldn't be in the library books so he couldn't have read them in a book considering all the higher levels books would be in the rune guild which meant he had either cheated somehow which he thought was impossible or somebody or something had taught him the beginning level to runes.

Now the man appeared to be more confused as he wondered who would teach a kid for nothing in return, but assumed that the kid had had a lucky encounter as they do happen all the time in the tower.

"So do I pass the test or did I fail?" Asked Euclid after a minute of the man scanning the paper in search of an error but finding none after a minute the man looked up with a scowl.

"Yes, you pass here's a ticket, go to the desk and they'll get you your rune guild card now go away!" Replied the man seeming displeased and annoyed that the child who he had thought was a brat trying to show off by skimming a couple books had not only passed the assessment, but had gotten a one hundred percent on it.

"Oh; alright, thanks for your time and have a good rest of your day." Euclid replied back while taking the ticket from the man and walking towards the door and before walking out into the hallway and closing the door behind him while putting the old man to the back of his.

Walking back down the hallway he waited in line in front of the same receptionist desk for the next few minutes before he was finally in front of the woman again.

"Aha it's you again, did you fail the test as well or did you decide to take the test another time when your more prepared? Well its not too much of a problem, most people fail their first test and come back for the later on." She asked first before answering her own questions assuming he was the same as all the other applicants as she does get several of the same people coming up to her a day asking for another try at the test or to demand their money back for their failed test.

"Oh no, I passed the test and was given this paper to get my new guild card." Euclid responded handing the piece of paper to the woman.
