Curse of a name

Earl's eyes died down as he remembered the events of the past. The event that would forever be engraved in his mind. After all, it marked the day he lost the woman he loved.

Earl was fully aware of the meaning of his dear daughter's name and the opinion it would give to people about her. He had a theory as to why his wife wanted their daughter to have that name but Morrigan was far too young to understand any of it.

If it was entirely up to him, he would have given her the same name as her mother but to name their child Morrigan was her last wish, he had no choice but to honor it.

He could understand his daughter's conflicted thoughts. The same person who gave her such a name was the same person he'd call the sweetest person in the world.

"What is wrong with your name?" he played dumb.

His daughter looked him in the eye emotionlessly and replied "The meaning"

"And what is wrong with the meaning?" he pulled a face to make it look like had no idea on what she was talking about.

Morrigan furrowed her eyebrows for a while, wondering why her father had suddenly scrunched his face so hard. She then sighed and turned her attention back outside the carriage.

"Papa, everytime I tell people my name, they turn around and never look back. It's like a bad omen." she said in a low tone, her voice was almost cracking.

"Who told you that?"

"Does it matter papa? Mothers keep their children away from me because of it and-and, I just want a friend. I made Janet tell me the meaning of my name and, I don't blame them"

The carriage went silent for a second, Egan had no idea that things had gotten that far "To what importance is a name?" he asked.

"Everything Papa!"

Egan slumped further into his seat and said "My child, you are special and only special people get special names like Morrigan. Listen to how it sounds. Morrigan! Morrigan! Morrigan! Morrigan! It is just an absolutely beautiful name. Just like you are my child"

The little girl chuckled at her father's remarks while the sound of his daughter's laughter elevated his spirit a little

"Don't bother with what anyone tells you. People will always spew rubbish out of their mouths "
