Chapter 31, Earning merits

"Hmm....nothing" After pondering a bit Ebube replied calmly before retracting his gaze.

' What do you mean nothing! ' Yifei glared at Ebube with visible annoyance in her eyes, her hooves unconsciously stamped down trying to vent out her irritation.

Meanwhile Ebube was still contemplating.

' judging by her reaction am guessing this wasn't another attempt of her's to win over my trust so then how do I explain this?' Ebube thought since it was beyond strange for a cow to be out here in such a dangerous forest without an owner what so ever.

' Moreover from the visible scent of blood it must be hurt....sigh, I was really hoping to kill it at it's peak, it would've served as a decent combat experience ' Ebube sighed with a downcast look on his face.

' Well the least I could do is put it out of it's misery ' Ebube shook his furry head with pity yet one couldn't help but notice the ravenous gaze in his eyes.

" We're heading this way!" Ebube hollered with his snout pointing in the direction of the footprints.

" Your actually planning to go after that thing?, Did you even see those huge footprints‽" Yifei exclaimed, Her eyes were filled with reproach since she couldn't start to wonder just what creature those hooves belonged to.

" Who cares?, it's probably injured so this'll be quick, trust me there's no way I'd lose to a dumb cow" Ebube said reassuringly.

[ Hehehe is that so?, Well let me inform you that statistically speaking, the probability of you losing are as much as millions*w *] Pixel snickered.

' Uh huh...and why should I believe you?' Ebube scoffed.

' Just how stupid can this idiot be?' 

Fa Yifei wondered as she stared at the black wolf in silence, it looked like she thought the same as Pixel.

Seeing that he had already begone to follow after the supposed cows footprints, Fa Yifei just shook her head lightly a trace of pity in her eyes.

She gave a light sigh before following after him. " Well at least this'll give me an opportunity to get on the scorpion's good side " She muttered underneath her breath as she followed a few meter's behind him.

On there way Fa Yifei couldn't help wondering how this dum mutt was in anyway related to that fearsome scorpion from her memories, The latter was so fierce and frightening yet the figure a few steps ahead of her was acting no difference than a child who was seeing the forest for the first time.

Well to be honest it wasn't his fault, After being cooped up all day by the lake Ebube couldn't control himself, His eyes were filled with excitement and anticipation as he followed closely after the trail of foot print's, The more he walked the stronger the scent became.

He felt that it wouldn't be too long now before they arrived before his soon to be prey!.

' Hahahaha!, just you wait, Soon I'll show you what it means to follow behind a true protagonist! '

' I'd like to see just what expression she'd make when I slay this pitiful beast with my incredible prowess ' The black wolf thought with glee as it continued forward through the dense foliage of shrubs, trees and herbs.

With the a short passage of time the duo soon arrived within a somewhat open space within the forest, Before their eye's lay'd a chaotic scenery.

Ebube's eyes were filled with skepticism since the somewhat open landscape before there eye's didn't look at all normal, in such a forest filled with dense vegetation, to come upon such a strange scene made him stop for a moment as he scanned the area with his gaze.

On closer look the several stumps around the area looked as if there weren't natural, instead they looked as if they were forcefully snapped in twine by a brutal force but from the looks of it this supposed to have happened a long time ago since the trees had a certain old feel to them.

After a few casual glances Ebube became uninterested, instead he focused his snout on the clear scent in the air, Now that they had arrived here he could smell the scent in the air was far more thicker than before.

Whatever creature that created the foot print's from earlier had to be here he thought, His eyes lit up like shinning stars due to anticipation.

Fa Yifei who was already bored due to having followed him through the forest like a wanderer rolled her eye's at his excited demeanor, Not wasting another second she found herself a nice patch of soft and comfy grass before laying on the ground.

Her azure glowing eyes watched the black wolf before her who was making his way through the stump of trees.

Moreover if one looked closer at her calm expression they would notice a bit of amusement in her azure glowing eye's.

Ebube who was still busy following the scent didn't even spare the uninterested deer a glance, instead his eye's became more spirited the closer he got to that scent.

' Hmph!, since she's not even willing to help then she shouldn't get mad if I don't share the winnings with her..' Ebube continued forward with a prideful look on his face, His charming wolf eye's had a hint of superiority within them.

He had only taken a few steps when he stopped to ponder.

' On second thought she is a deer so that makes her a herbivore right?, Maybe that's why's she uninterested ' he thought before shaking his head.

' Whatever, That just means theirs more for me, Who cares if she gets a piece ' he muttered calmly.

" Yes just a bit more and!–" He said with anticipation, Right now that strange scent seemed to be at it's strongest, With each step he took he felt the scent waft through his nostrils leaving behind a lingering feel.
