She woke up with a gasp, sitting straight up, leaving the nurses in the ward in shock.
"Ms. Nancy?" One of the nurses called her. "Call the doctor! Ms. Nancy, can you hear me? Please lay down!"
Nancy was in a hospital bed, confused as to why she was there in the first place.
The doctors rushed in after hearing a brain surgery case patient waking up vigorously.
"W-What happened?" Nancy asked. Her speech was way too normal for someone who woke up 10 minutes after a brain surgery.
Signs of pain were not showing either. What was happening?!
It was early in the morning when her mother came inside her room, wearing an apron and grabbing a spatula, ready to smash her for still sleeping after trying to wake her up multiple times before that.
"Nancy! Wake up already!" Her mother shouted at her desperately.
"I want to sleep, mom!" Nancy's strange muffles were heard from underneath her blanket.
Her mother spread the curtains for the bright sun to shine upon her through the blanket and turned all the lights on to give her the absolute last warning.
The last warning shivered the household's spine.
The last warning singlehandedly sent the entire family to the deep dungeons of hell.
"Fine! I'm getting up!" Nancy whined before sitting up.
"Do you call this a time to wake up? How many lectures have you missed already? And look at you! You're a circus."
Nancy almost answered her back, like her usual rude self. But she didn't because she had already received the last warning.
She quickly got off the bed before her mother had more to say.
She quickly washed up and wore her favorite outfit from the wardrobe. She wore her favorite black blouse and blue jeans. Her blonde hair fluttered around as her eyes shined vibrant blue.
She smiled to herself in the mirror.
She was late for college but had to admire herself before leaving her room.
"Where's Nina?" Nancy asked her mother as she grabbed her bag to leave for college.
"You're asking me that now? Nancy, you're two hours late." Her mother nagged.
"Geez. Forgive me for asking." She scoffed, moving her hands sarcastically before leaving the house.
She plugged the airpods in her ears, playing EDM before sitting in her car, switching to an average gear, and driving towards her college.
She pulled up her timetable on the infotainment screen. Ah, it was Hertwig's lecture. She did not need to speed up.
Professor Hertwig, her math teacher and childhood tutor, was almost a friend; He was a prodigy. He was too young to have a PhD in mathematics. He was just 23 years old at the moment. His name was Travis Hertwig, but he hated his first name, so he was known as Hertwig.
Nancy always wondered why he wasted his education trying to teach others. In her opinion, he was lame.
She slowly drove to her college as there was plenty of time till the strict teachers would arive. Hertwig would fill in her presence sometimes as well, so it was a win-win.
Her car kept getting on her nerves, though. The brakes were too late.
She ignored it for the time being and went straight to college.
She entered her class from the back door and carefully tried to walk over to her chair, trying not to get caught.
However, she hadn't noticed the principal of their department standing right there.
"Ms. Morgan?" The principal spotted her sneaky entering. "Could you see me in the office for a second?"
Nancy sighed before following him to the office.
"Yikes," Hertwig muttered as he saw them leave.
She arrived back at the class not after long. In her hands, a small paper and card waiting for an explanation.
"If I get expelled, you're paying for me." Nancy glared at Hertwig.
"Alright." He smiled at her.
"Wait, really? I was joking…" She hesitated.
"I was joking too, Nancy."
He hoarsely laughed at her annoyed face. She ran to her seat after receiving a warning and a car repair shop card from the principal himself.
"Ugh, he needs to stop talking," Nancy said to Amy, her best friend, seated beside her.
"He got that habit from you, though." Bubbly Amy replied to tease her.
Considering how lenient Hertwig was toward Nancy, many students thought they were secretly dating. But it wasn't possible, for he was Nancy's archenemy.
Ring! Ring!
Finally, a moment to enjoy some peace and quiet. Probably just a moment.
"Why were you late anyway?" Amy asked as they sat in the cafeteria during recess.
"Woke up late. But my car was weird, too." Nancy explained briefly, not enjoying her day one bit.
"Come to my place. You know I'm a mechanic by birth."
"Yeah, no. I don't want my only car to die." Nancy objected as she took out the card from earlier. "Guess I'll use this."
"Oh ho~ The principal's death note?"
Nancy nodded before dialing the number on the card to her phone for an appointment. Great, right after college, she could get her car fixed.
"Honestly, I have no transportation for today either. But going with you is scary."
Amy was Nancy's best friend, but didn't trust her with her life. Nancy drove recklessly anyway.
Nancy passed a light chuckle, her vibrant blue eyes stuck to something else.
"Veronica seems upset," Nancy murmured, staring at her bad blood.
Veronica had self-proclaimed Nancy as her rival.
"Oh, she fought with David." Amy clarified. "Allegedly."
"What?" Nancy suddenly showed interest. "Amazing! When did that happen?"
"This morning."
Nancy had an involuntary grin on her face. David was an acquaintance from the martial arts club she was a member of.
He was the best of the best; black belt at an early age and was unmatched.
Nancy still had years to catch up to him. He wasn't necessarily a rival, more of a goal she had to surpass.
After the long stressful college time, Nancy finally said her goodbyes to Amy and took off in her car. She didn't know what the issue was, but it seemed to pull the brakes suddenly or fail to pull the brakes at all.
She carefully drove by the left-most lane.
She soon got onto the main road, turned some music on, and sipped soda. She had to stop for the traffic signal, but it was okay as she was having fun with herself.
Even though she was lazy, she still liked long drives and cars. That is why it saddened her immensely to put up with this broken car.
She soon picked up her pace, and yet another traffic signal came. She pulled the brakes annoyingly, but the brakes didn't work. She started panicking until she realized there were not a lot of cars.
"Phew! That was close_" Then she was silent.
Crash!
A speedy bus couldn't pull the brakes in time and crushed Nancy's car immensely, causing it to flip over until it hit a tree. The car was lying parallel to the tree, and Nancy was drenched in blood.
She was rushed to the hospital by the bus driver who hit her car. He grabbed her phone and called her parents.
Her parents rushed to the hospital only to know the bitter truth the doctors had to tell her.
