"And now that we're literally going against them, Mary will set them against us too."
Dio deduced.
"Correct."
Dio thought it was too much for them to handle alone.
Fortunately, the League will get involved because none of his team members have experience fighting vampires.
They're going against some with centuries of experience.
"Thank you."
Dio expressed his gratitude for the information she had given them.
After some polite words, the three of them exited through the window they came in.
"So?"
Dio asked while sitting on the rooftop with all the members.
"I've already sent the entire conversation to Batman. He's doing his best to track the vampires, but it's hard with them not showing up on cameras and being able to transform into animals or mist."
Robin reported.
"We need to sleep, that's for sure."
Speedy suggested, and Dio agreed with him.
"It's dawn, and there's nothing more to do now."
Kaldur'ahm agreed.
"Back to the Tower?"
Wally asked.
"No, we're under Batman's order, so we'll stay close. I've arranged a safe house for us here in Gotham."
Robin informed.
After everyone complied with Robin's instructions, she teleported them to a large apartment in the big apartment building after he gave Raven the location.
"The bathrooms are back there, and there are bedrooms for everyone. Let's rest."
Robin showed them around the house, and everyone did their best to get comfortable.
...
After a refreshing shower, Dio lay down in one of the rooms and stared at the ceiling.
It wasn't long before I fell asleep since he was mentally exhausted.
A sensation of a pull in his mind woke him up—an alert.
Before going to sleep, Dio cast some basic magical protections on the apartment.
Since Raven isn't very proficient at this type of magic, Dio is responsible for it even though he is not that skilled.
Dio stood up and grabbed his sword from beside his bed.
Dio knew he should shout to alert everyone in the apartment, but he was unsure if there was an intrusion or an error with his spell.
The intrusion signal didn't come from the doors or windows, but from a wall, and as there was no explosion, he needed to investigate further.
There's also a chance that shouting might scare off the intruder.
Unfortunately, no one on the team sleeps with their communicators in their ears.
As soon as Dio left his room, he saw Raven also stepping out of her room; she slept in the room in front of Dio's.
"What did you sense?"
Dio asked and was sure that there was indeed an intrusion.
"Hunger!"
Raven replied.
Raven easily knows that someone has come into their apartment because she can sense everyone's emotions.
"Alert everyone. I'll take a look."
"No, it will be too late!"
Raven shouted and ran down the hallway towards the living room.
Dio arrived first in the big room, with only a giant sofa and a TV.
Then Dio remembered that Roy chose the sofa to sleep on.
In the room, there's a blond man in a beige suit with his back to him.
He's holding Roy with a hand over his mouth to prevent him from screaming and pinning him against the wall, with his other hand holding Roy's wrist, which is gripping an arrow.
As if sensing Dio's presence, the blond man in the beige suit turned his body and threw Roy to the other side of the room.
"BAAAMM!"
Roy hit the TV, which fell on top of him.
He could see the blonde man in the beige suit better now that he was facing Dio.
The man had short hair, pointed ears, red eyes, and big fangs sticking out of his mouth.
A vampire.
"Azarath metrion, Zinthos!"
Raven behind him shouted.
The shining dark energy surrounded the sofa, which floated in the air, shooting towards the vampire.
The vampire bursts into a mist that reassembles in front of him just before the sofa is about to hit his body.
The long nails tried to cut Dio's eyes, but he managed to raise his sword to defend himself and was about to kick him away.
That's when Dio saw him. Roy emerged from under the TV and jumped with his arrow raised while aiming at the vampire's back.
The vampire caught Roy's scent and turned into mist again, which made Dio hit the air.
The white mist passed through Roy's body while stopping in front of Dio and taking human form again behind him.
What happened next was fast.
"Azarth…"
Raven started her spell, and Dio raised his sword.
Roy then realized the enemy was behind him and tried to turn.
The vampire grabs the hair on the top of his head and pulls it to the side, tilting his head to create a good angle to bite his neck.
"Metrion…"
Raven continued her incantation.
This time, Dio felt great power coming from her; the next attack would be more powerful, but it wouldn't reach in time.
With its long fangs, the vampire's mouth is already open and moving toward Roy's neck.
Dio appeared behind the vampire to thrust his sword into the back of his thigh and pierce it completely.
"HAAAAA!"
He screamed in pain and fell to his knees before turning into mist once again.
Dio looked at Roy while trying to find where the vampire went.
That's when Dio saw Robin appear at the end of the hall.
He's without his suit, wearing a simple pajama, while looking around and trying to understand the situation.
Before Dio could warn him, he saw the vampire's glowing eyes behind him.
Robin also sensed the attack and rolled forward to escape.
However, he was slow, and the vampire's claws cut into his back, which made him scream in pain and leave drops of blood on the wall.
Dio saw the vampire leaning forward and ready to attack Robin's unprotected back as he struggled with the pain.
"ENOUGH!"
That's when Dio's anger took over for the first time since he became a hero, and with a burst of full speed, the enemy didn't even see him coming.
"SHHHHHH"
Dio only realized what he had done after it had already been done.
After that, Dio was on the floor with one knee on the other while facing away from the vampire and looking at his team, who had come out of their rooms and were coming toward them.
'Why are they looking at me like that?'
"BAANG"
Dio heard the sound of something falling to the ground beside him, and he looked to see what it was.
First, Dio saw his sword with his hand extended with a little blood on it, and blue energy enveloped it and absorbed into the black blade.
But that's the least of his concerns now because Dio saw what fell to the ground beneath his sword.
It was a head with blond hair.
A head that turned into dust shortly afterward.
Dio knew exactly what had happened after he felt the dust behind him.
