Chapter Thirty Nine: The Beast

Eventually, only Micheal, the commander of the forces is left standing in the middle of a field of blood and carnage. In front of him, are the three beings that reduced his army of almost eight thousand strong to nothing. However, even in the face of these devilish creatures, he still manages to smile confidently while clutching his claymore in his left hand. Eris also wears a confident smile, but inside she's a bit wary that Micheal has seen the death of his troops and is still able to smirk. She thinks that he either has a method of defeating her, or he's just gone completely insane.

"I have to admit, you monsters are much more powerful than anything I've ever seen before. Hell, you could even kill the High Priest with ease if you wanted to."

"I appreciate the compliment about being strong. But calling us monsters is a bit rude, don't you think? Afterall, you're the ones who were trying to murder an innocent little girl simply because she wants the people of this world to stop killing each other pointlessly," Eris answers Micheal.

"Pfft. A child born from two monsters is still a monster. And Reogradia does not tolerate the existence of devils such as yourselves in this world. That is why the High Priest has sent me here. I will do the work of my god and annihilate you devils from this world."

"You believe you can stop us? The three of us wiped out your army of over seven thousand in under an hour."

"Like I said before, you are definitely strong. But no matter how strong you are, a devil will never prevail over our god!" Micheal says, taking out a black sphere.

As soon as the black jewel is revealed, it sends a chill down Eris' spine, "What is that?" she asks before thinking to herself, "I don't recognize it. I've never seen an item like that in Legend Conquerors Online, and I don't like the feeling that I'm getting from it. Why am I so afraid looking at this thing?"

"Ha. This is a great treasure, left for us by Reogradia. With this in my possession, I will destroy you all!!" Micheal answers, raising the jewel in the air.

Suddenly, the jewel begins to glow with a strange, purple light. Eris, as well as Serena and Rose, can feel a massive surge of energy coming from the black sphere. The feeling of fear that she was getting from the jewel before intensifies.

"Serena, Rose, get out of here now!!" the vampire orders.

All three of them quickly fly backwards, into the air, to get away from the strange artifact. By the time they get far enough away from the strange object, the black crystal begins to secrete a strange, black goo. The goo starts to envelop Micheal, who is still holding onto the glowing crystal. The knight begins to feel a sharp pain where the black mass is enveloping his body, and it increases the more it covers him. His screams of pain are quickly silenced when the black substance envelops his head. The black goo continues to spread until his entire body is covered.

Eris, Serena, and Rose then become horrified as the capsule created by the jewel explodes, sending a massive wave of the black substance towards the dead bodies on the battlefield. Not only that, but a pillar of purple light erupts from where the jewel was. The sky turns dark, and the winds in the air carry a cold chill, turning the atmosphere ominous. The three of them watch as the black goo spreads, consuming the bodies of their victims in the previous battle.

Meanwhile, Chrono and Hdradian are standing by one of the windows looking out at the battlefield. They are shocked when a pillar of light suddenly bursts from the area their empress was in and darkens the skies.

"Sir Hadrian, what is that?" the demon asks.

"I'm not sure. I've never seen anything like it," Hadrian answers with a stern expression, "Go. Get to the empress now. I'll assemble the other commanders. We don't know what the enemy is up to. Make sure she's safe."

"Yes sir," answers Chrono, unferaling his wings and jumping out the window.

Back at the battlefield, the black substance has finished devouring the corpses, and is being sucked back into the pillar of light. Once inside the light, Eris, Serena, and Rose can see that the black goo is morphing and shaping itself.

"Serena, do you know what this is?" Eris asks.

"No. I've never seen anything like it. I've also never heard of the theocracy having such a powerful item," the young vampire answers with a concerned expression.

"Tch! Damn it! You two, fall back. Get to the castle and let them know what's going on! Whatever this thing is, it's strong."

"What about you?" Serena asks.

"Do you think you can beat it?" Rose asks.

"I should be able to as long as I don't make any careless mistakes."

By looking at the soul forming in the pillar of light, Eris can tell that this creature is stronger than anything she's seen since coming to this world. The flame of its souls is a bright red, and is also quite large. But as she looks at it, it only continues to become a lighter and lighter shade, until it's light pink.

Eris then glares at the two with her red eyes gleaming, "Go."

This look sends a shiver up Serena's and Rose's spine and they quickly do as the older vampire says. Eris then looks back at the black mass in the pillar of purple light and finds that it's form is solidifying. Finally, the light fades, revealing the creature created by the black goo. The beast is a little over twenty feet tall, with dark grey skin, and strange, yellow eyes. It's head is shaped similarly to a monitor lizard, it's neck is slightly elongated, and it's hunched over. It's frame is very muscular, and it has four arms with four fingers and claws on each hand. It also has four large, membranous wings on its back, and an extraordinarily long tail with a snake head at the end. It's legs are also similar to a t-rex's, and it's entire body is covered in armor-like scales.
