Chapter Thirty Eight: Battle with the Theocracy Army

At that point, a large amount of gryphons and wyverns descend and attack the trio on top of the wall. Eris merly chuckles at the sight, summons Nightmare in her right hand, and slashes at the aerial forces, creating a wave of black energy. The wave of dark energy envelops anything it comes into contact with and completely disintegrates it, not even leaving the smallest trace behind. The size of their aerial unit is cut in half, and Eris finishes off the rest by summoning multiple balls of red flames, and launching them at her enemies. The fireballs explode on contact, sending scraps of burning metal and flesh across the battlefield. It takes only a few moments for the vampire to finish off the last soldier riding a wyvern.

Both Micheal and his army are dumbfounded, angered, and completely terrified after what they witnessed. This lone vampire has just taken out over one thousand aerial mages and knights in less than ten minutes. Who is this being before them? They know that Eris is a vampire, but Micheal and his soldiers have never heard of a vampire this powerful living in the Rimore vampire kingdom.

"Damn it!!" Micheal roars, "Mages attack!! Send in the summoned beasts and tamed monsters as well!! Kill every last one of these beasts in human skin!!"

"Beasts huh? You're the ones that want to kill a little girl because she doesn't want the people of this world to slaughter each other anymore," Eris mutters to herself before turning to Serena and Rose, "You two will deal with the soldiers. I'll take out the monsters. Be careful."

"You don't have to worry. I'll keep my master safe," Rose answers confidently.

"I'll avenge my parents," says Serena as she takes the whip from her hip, and launches herself at the army.

As soon as she gets within range, Serena attacks with her whip, cutting through the soldier's armor with her weapon, and severing their heads from their bodies. Those behind the soldiers are also beheaded when her whip fires its windblade attack. Serena then uses Hydra's Bite, creating several whips with snake-like heads that act on their own, attacking any soldier in her vicinity. The ten snake heads all hit their marks, injecting their targets with venom and quickly killing them. After that, nine of the whips retract back into the handle, and the snake head disappears, as Serena can't use the technique for too long.

"Disgusting monster! You dare attack the soldiers of Reogradia!?" shouts a mage in white robes as he and several others like him prepare to cast a spell.

Serena is caught off guard, and is unable to produce a defense before the mages attack. Luckly, Rose appears in the nick of time to block the spells with a barrier created from wind. The enemy mages are surprised, but do not falter. Them and the knights of reogradia surround the pair.

"This doesn't look good," says Serena.

"Then let's work together," Rose answers with a smirk.

While back to back with her spirit, Serena places her hands together, as if she's praying. At that point, a bright, green light envelops the pair, and Rose's body seems to sink into Serena's. The young vampire's body then transforms. Her body matures to an age similar to Eris', and she acquires the same horns, wings, and tail that Rose had before merging with Serena. Serena's red hair also becomes free-flowing like Roses, and gets yellow accents to it, making it look similar to fire. Dark, metallic armor also covers her neck to her feet. The armor is just as sinister-looking as Eris'. It's night black with accents of blood red, it has sharp claws on the fingers of the gauntlets, and skull-like decorations on the shoulder and knee plates.

"No way!" says one of the priests.

"She used spirit fusion with that devil?!" says another.

"She wasn't supposed to be this strong!!" exclaims a knight.

The fused being smiles, and as she speaks, it sounds like Rose and Serena speaking at the same time, "Now this is more like it!" she says while exuding a powerful magic aura that makes those around her barely able to stand, "It's time for you all to pay for killing my parents."

With her whip in her right hand, the fused being starts moving it around at extraordinarily high speeds, creating a powerful windstorm, similar to a tornado. All the soldiers that once surrounded Serena are blown into the air then diced into pieces by the wind blades generated by her whip. The blood of Serena's victims is caught by the wind, and from an outsider's perspective, it looks like a blood-colored tornado has appeared on the battlefield. To a normal person, it would be a truly macab scene, but Eris simply has a wide-eyed expression as she gazes upon the deadly-looking tornado.

"Holy crap. I thought I was ruthless, but Serena in her fused state is just downright terrifying. I've always been a horror junkie, but now it's different. Not only am I not fazed by looking at blood, but it actually makes me feel hungry, and the smell of the blood coming from those twos' battles is only making me hungrier. I probably have my new vampire body to thank for that," Eris sighs, "Oh well. Complaining about it isn't going to help. And I have to make sure that I don't get shown up by a little girl."

Eris directs her gaze at the horde of monsters coming in her direction. The horde includes creatures like giants, elementals, reptilian monsters, huge, animalistic beasts, titanic flying monsters like dragons, and many more. Some of them are similar in strength to the angels that Ezekial summoned a while ago while others are just as powerful as Kronos, the priest's other summon. The vampire can tell this by using her Demon Eyes of Knowledge. She used this ability previously after her battle with Lucina, but didn't know what to make of what she saw. After doing some digging in her library, Eris learns that the flame she saw within Lucina when she used that skill is actually her soul. There are 5 different flames for the evolution of a being's soul. From a creature's first evolution to their last, it's blue, green, yellow, orange, and red. The more powerful the individual being is, the larger and paler the flame will be. After looking at the flames of an individual's soul, Eris can tell just how powerful a being is compared to herself.

Eris smirks as a pair of bat-like wings emerge from her back. She lifts off the ground and then accelerates towards the army of monsters with extreme speed. The first giant creature she encounters swings at her with it's massive arm. The vampire easily dodges the attack, and decapitates the giant with almost no effort. A large, green dragon-like beast then snaps at her with it's jaws filled with razor sharp teeth. Eris evades simply by flying upwards. After getting above the dragon, she cuts into her hand with Nightmare, aims her palm at the dragon's head, and forms a weapon out of her blood. The weapon is similar to a large spear, and is launched into the dragon's skull with the speed of a bullet. The blood spear easily pierces the dragon's skulls and both of its jaws, killing it instantly. Eris then turns around and cuts several creatures in half by creating crescent-shaped blades out of her seemingly endless supply of blood, and attacking with them.

The soldiers and mages are horrified by the sight before them, "What in the name of Reogradia are these beasts?!" asks a knight.

"They're devils! No! They are worse than that! They are demon gods!!" says a mage in a terrified tone.

"This can't be happening! That girl is slaughtering a countless number of our soldiers and this vampire woman is destroying every single one of our summons like they're ants!" exclaims a knight with sweat running down his face.

"Sir Micheal, what are your orders?!" a mage asks.

Micheal is absolutely speechless at the site before him. On one side, Eris is slaughtering every monster that attacks her, viscously and mercilessly. On the other, the spirit fused Serena is mowing down large groups of soldiers with every crack of her whip. As the two of these monstrously powerful beings wipe out their enemies, they're inching their way towards Micheal's location, as if the bodies in their way were nothing more than thin walls. And the most horrific part about it all, is that the two of them are wearing evil smiles on their faces as they remove massive chunks of the enemy army.

"Sir Micheal, your orders please!!" the mages exclaims desperately.

The inside of Micheal's head is filled with thought, "What the hell is going on. What are these monsters?! It wasn't supposed to be like this!! These devils are tearing my army apart!! Should I order and retreat?! Would these monsters even allow us to retreat?! No!! I can't go back!! I have to stop these devils here and now!!"

After thinking this, Micheal remembers the black jewel given to him by the head priest. He smirks, assured of his victory. However, many of the knights and mages are starting to lose their will.

"Run for your lives!!" shouts a mage.

"Flee!! Flee from the demon gods!!" exclaims a knight.

However, both of them are silenced as Micheal draws his claymore and decapitates them both with a single stroke, "Pathetic mongrels," he then turns to the rest of his army, "Do not run in the presence of devils, my fellow disciples!! Fight!! Fight for our god, Reogradia!! He watches over us all and should you die, your souls shall be free of the pollutants of this world and we shall join our lord after our deaths. For Reogradia!!"

"For Reogradia!!" the rest of the soldiers and mages shout in a victory cry.

Eris has just split a monster in half down the middle when she here Micheal's speech, "Ha. He must be a pretty influential figure. Not only that, but he's still confident that he can win. I wonder what he has in store for us," she says with a smirk.

The battle continues for a while. Eventually, Serena's spirit fusion with Rose wears out, and the two of them go back to fighting separately. Even if they're not fused, the two of them make a formidable duo, and they continue to slaughter any soldier in their path. The same goes for Eris. With her skill with Nightmare combined with her incredible strength, speed, and reflexes, she's easily able to take out every single one of the summoned beasts.
