Opening my eyes and returning to consciousness, the events that had transpired earlier in the day flashed through my mind.
'System.' I thought, in hopes that the events from earlier weren't a dream.
-----------
[The System]
- Status
- Inventory
- Mission
- Shop
- World Travel
-----------
'Okay, definitely not a dream.' I thought as I sat up.
'The System mentioned a Starting Package would be in my inventory but I'll look at my Status first. Hopefully, it's not like a game where I have to invest stat points to get stronger. That would make things a big hassle. Though the instant powerup would be a nice aspect especially later on when it gets harder to progress.'

[Status]
Name: Matt Garetty
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Bloodline: N/A
Age: 18
Title: N/A
SP: 0
--
Skills/Abilities/Talents
- Psychokinesis
-----------
'Phew. No stat points. It's just an information sheet. But what are these titles? Do they give bonuses like in RPGs?' I thought before clicking on Title.
-----------
[Titles - Any nickname/title of significance linked to the User, purely cosmetic.]
-----------
'No min/maxing titles. Let me check the other three before checking Inventory.'
-----------
[Mission]
- N/A
-----------
'Thought I would be given a mission off the bat. Seems like I'll have to wait a bit. I'd prefer it like this anyway, wouldn't want to go on a mission right now when I'm weak and barely getting the hang of my powers.'
-----------
[Shop - 6 days, 18 hours, 55 minutes until Shop refreshes]
- Set of Chef Knives (Toriko) - 2,500 SP
- Ultra 4K TV - 50 SP
- Cozy Socks - 2 SP
- Kryptonian Bloodline (DC) - 10,000,000 SP
- Blank AI - 1,000 SP
- Unlimited Pepsi Can - 500 SP
-----------
'10,000,000 for the Kryptonian Bloodline, holy shit! If I save up enough points, and with the Shop refreshed perfectly, I could become Superman.' I thought in awe as I began to daydream about being practically invincible like the Man of Steel before snapping out of it.
'But judging by the huge jump in points between something like socks to a Blank AI, it's safe to assume points are not going to be easy to accrue. I can't even imagine how long it'll take me. Anyway, now it's time to move on to Inventory. And more importantly my Starting Package.'
-----------
[Inventory]
- Starting Package x 1
-----------
Seeing the Starting Package there like The System said it would be, I clicked on it.
[Would User like to open Starting Package x 1?]
'Alright, Lady Luck shine your light upon me. Open.' I thought.
-----------
[User has received]
- 500 SP
- Random Skill/Ability Token
- Random Equipment Token
-----------
[Would User like to use tokens?]
'Come on! Don't make me agonize again over what my rewards are going to be!' I thought, a little frustrated at having to roll two more times.
'Whatever, can't be too mad about all this. A random skill, random equipment, and 500 SP are not bad at all. Especially the 500 SP. Not that I'll get anything from this week's shop but it's a good amount to have in the bank for the future. Though I wouldn't mind getting that AI if I'm being honest.' I thought as I recalled how useful AI, usually, are in fiction.
'Anyway, moving on. Lady Luck, please shine your light upon me once more. Use both tokens.' I thought, eyes closed and hands clasped in prayer for Lady Luck.
-----------
[User has received]
- Hacking Mastery (Barbara Gordan - DC)
- Spy Watch
-----------
[Would User like to accept rewards?]
'I mean, not bad. Was kinda hoping for something more instantaneous powerup but Batgirl's Hacking Mastery is not bad at all. Honestly, I could probably hack into almost any computer in the world considering Batgirl hacks into computer security that is a lot more advanced than in this world. Never mind, I'm more than satisfied. Thank you, Lady Luck. Accept Hacking Mastery.'
Suddenly, knowledge that I didn't have before appeared in my mind and unlike my normal knowledge and memories, I could recall it perfectly.
'Whoa, that's way more than I thought I was going to get. Why I thought I was only going to be able to hack things is beyond me. Obviously, a good hacker like Batgirl would be just as good at programming. This is way better than I first thought. Thank you once more, Lady Luck.
Anyway, I'll try my new skills out later. For now, how about this Spy Watch? Don't tell me it's one of those toy watches that just have a microphone?' I thought before clicking on it.
-----------
[Spy Watch]
- A cutting-edge watch from a world where Spy technology is decades ahead of any civilian technology
- Contains all the necessary tech any good spy needs from making the wearer invisible to any recording device to sleeping darts
- Can take on the appearance of any watch design placed in the data bank
- Supplies refreshed daily
-----------
'Okay, so not a toy. But this definitely brings me back to my childhood fantasies of being a spy. Let's test this puppy out. Accept Spy Watch.'
Just like with the Hacking Mastery, all the information about the watch appeared in my mind, which was useful considering just how much the watch could do. But something else that surprised me was just how the watch functioned.
'Nanorobotics?! For a watch?! Just how important are spies in this world for them to develop this type of tech? But that does explain the number of functions in the watch. If I could reverse-engineer this watch, I'd be rich. Unfortunately, I can't, at least not right now. Anyway, let me take the watch out.'
Taking out the watch from my Inventory, it appeared in my hand. At the moment, the watch looked like an unassuming plain black watch.
'This looks like something you could get at Wal-Mart for 5 dollars.' I thought as I put the watch on my left wrist before it suddenly tightened itself the perfect amount.
'Cool.' I thought as I waved and twisted my arm around to see if the watch would move or fall off at all.
'Let me test the Ghost function, as it's called on the watch.'
Setting my phone up, I pressed record before walking in and out of the shot. I also moved around a lot while in the shot to see if the Ghost function would be able to handle such dynamic movement.
Satisfied, I picked up my phone to stop recording before going over the video and seeing nothing. I looked over the video multiple times and it looked like I was never even in the shot.
'Fascinating. With this, I can use my powers without having to be worried about being recorded. Not that I plan to use my powers willy nilly but just in case the need arises, the watch takes care of that problem. Next, I want to try out the sleeping dart which according to the information I got, at the max dosage can knock out an elephant for 24 hours in under a second.
I don't think I'll ever use that dosage in this world, maybe when I'm on a mission. But for now, let me just test out shooting using the weakest dosage.'
Twisting the face of the watch, like how Ben twisted his Omnitrix to switch aliens, I switched to the sleeping dart function before using the crown to select the weakest dosage. The next second, a tiny opening on the side of the watch appeared while the face of the watch changed to a live feed of where the opening was oriented, so I could aim. I aimed at the wall before tapping on the face to fire.
Not hearing anything, but not believing the watch had malfunctioned, I got closer to the wall I aimed at and saw a tiny hole. As to why there was no needle, the information about the watch said that the needles that were shot would destroy themselves so as to not leave any evidence behind.
'This watch is awesome!' I thought as I started looking at other functions like Wall Climber, Grappling Hook, Laser Cutter, Smokescreen, Sonic Shriek, and Disguise which created a holographic projection over my body to change my appearance. There were more functions but I wasn't able to continue fiddling with my watch because my phone started ringing.
As I was about to walk over to get my phone, I stopped and decided to use my PK.
Holding my hand out to the phone, I thought about what I wanted to do and the psionic energy did what it was told. It was noticeably smoother than the first time but not as smooth compared to when I did it in the dream.
Slowly the phone floated up before coming toward me until it was close enough to where I grabbed it with my hand.
'Considering I struggled to move a shirt before, I'm making good progress.' I thought before checking my phone.
A text from Andrew asking to meet up to talk about the crystal at a diner to which I responded in the affirmative.
'Time to talk.'

AN
Let me know what you thought of the rewards, I knew I wanted his first ability/skill to be tech related so I decided to go with Batgirl's hacking/programming mastery.
As for his spy watch, I wasn't too sure what I wanted to give him equipment wise but I was scrolling through my Twitter feed and a post about an old spy watch toy popped out so I decided to go with that but much more advanced.
And I think I've realized why I do one scene per chapter and it's because it's first person. In my other 3rd person novels it doesn't feel that way, so I think I might switch over to 3rd person. Or at least write one chapter in 3rd person and see how it feels.
