Into The Hyperspace

After a good rest, Kita was about to head back to the Bridge. It was almost time for the Jeager to transition to FTL travel. Once that was done, the crew could rest for a while and tackle the other things that have been stuck.

As he was about to leave his room, he heard a meow from behind. He turned around to see Noir sitting straight up on his bed and looking at his with a clear eye.

"What's up buddy? You wanna come with me?", Kita asked.

"Meow!" Noir said as he quickly ran up to him jumped on his shoulder.

"Great! Let's go. I forgot that you haven't really seen the ship before. C'mon. I'll give you a tour!" He said as he left the room. Instead of walking straight to a pod like usual, he instead opted to take a hovering platform. This platform was used to take heavy stuff from one place to another. Pods weren't really effective in carrying heavy things from one place to another. It was more of an industrial machine, but Kita didn't mind riding it.

As he took the platform, it quickly descended to one of the transit decks. These decks were special in that they were meant for high traffic transit between different parts of the ship.

As the ship was basically like a stacked tube. It was quite troublesome to go or take something from the front of the ship to the back. There were many compartments in between and traveling through them wasn't efficient.

That's why all ships this size included at least a single transit decks. These decks facilitated high speed transit through dedicate lane management and speed controlled hover platforms. Just like the one Kita was riding on. This made things way more efficient that carrying it through the different compartments.

As the Platform sped up after reaching the transit deck, Kita looked around, there wasn't much activity going on here right now. It was most likely due to the lack of things to carry around.

The Jeager was mostly empty. There weren't much supplies to sort out and nothing to carry around. So the deck was mostly empty right now. But Kita hoped that it would change in the future.

Soon, the transit deck detached from it's lane and ascended upwards again. It had reached it's destination.

After getting off of the platform, Kita still needed to walk a bit to reach the bridge. Now that they were in the interior compartments, there were a few more people around. The technicians were working on fixing different things around the hull and what not.

As Kita walked with Noir on his shoulder, they drew many eyes towards themselves. Nobody had really seen Noir before, so they didn't knew that their employer had a cat like this.

Soon, they reached the Bridge.

After they entered, 5 pairs of eyes fell on them.

'It seems that Noel isn't here right now.' Kita looked around and couldn't see Noel. Only the 5 operators were in the bridge.

Kita took a seat as he asked.

"What's the ETA on FTL transition?"

"FTL drive on standby, FTL transition possible in 20 minutes." The Operator responsible for configuring and operating the FTL drive spoke. This was quite an important position. One mistake could lead the ship to be lost inside of hyperspace. So he took his job very seriously.

As Kita sat on his chair, he pulled up some other data while he waited for them to reach position.

After a few minutes, Noel entered the Bridge, a bit surprised seeing Kita already on his chair.

He greeted him and then took his position behind the operators.

Soon the wait was up.

The FTL drive was ready to transition.

"Let's go!" Kita gave the order and the ship entered Hyperspace shortly.

They were on their way to the Handeln System.

Although they would need to make stops along the way, but it would take them about 2 weeks to reach the Handeln system.

After the successful transition into Hyperspace, The crew could finally relax a bit. They got up from their seats for a much deserved break.

Kita also headed out of the bridge now that his job was done. While the Ship was in FTL, it basically ran on Autopilot.

The FTL drive was responsible for guiding them throughout the Hyperspace. Even the rear thrusters were turned off during this time.

Although all this was really convenient for everyone. No one really knew why it worked. Only some key figures working to improve the performance of FTL drives like Dr. Kbom knew how it exactly worked. All this was so complicated that even Kita couldn't fully claim that he understood everything about an FTL drive. Although he was a disciple of the famed Dr. Kbom himself.

But he didn't care as long as the drive work as it was supposed to.

That reminded him of something. He wanted to add another FTL drive to the Jeager.

He needed to talk with Hugo about that.

So he called him up. As usual, when the man arrived he had a bright smile plastered on his face. Kita didn't know why he smiled so much. But it was good that he wasn't depressed at least.

"What do you need sir?" He asked.

"I wanted to add another FTL drive to ship. I wonder if she's able to accommodate another drive? Can you tell me?", Kita asked for his opinion. As the Chief of Engineering, he knew the inner workings of the ship the most. If anyone knew whether she could support another FTL drive or not, it was Hugo.

"You want to add another FTL drive to her?" Hugo fell into some deep thought.

Kita noticed that the Usual smile that was always on his face was gone right now. It seemed that whenever he was in deep thought the smile went away.

'Well, something to know', Kita thought to himself.

Hugo took a few more minutes before answering. It seemed that he had quite a few things to say.

"Well, She certainly has the space for another FTL drive. But the energy lines and other things may need to be upgraded before we can install another FTL drive. Although the current one is running fine, I fear that adding an additional FTL drive will put too much strain on the supporting systems. If we upgrade the supporting systems, then she can certainly accommodate another FTL drive." Hugo said.

"I see. Can you give me a comprehensive plan for the upgrade? And an estimate on how long it might take?" Kita asked.

"I can certainly do that. But it'll take a few days to inspect everything and come up with an estimation."

"Well, take your time, We have that anyway while we're in FTL."

"Okay sir, I'll get on it." Hugo said.

After asking him a few more things about the ship, Kita let him go.

Now he needed to get his hands on another FTL drive. And he knew just the place to get one.
