“It’s been a great six months or so, hasn’t it?” Mickey said.
“Tell me about it! It’s been a little bit of heaven.”
“Yeah, but I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop.”
“Bite your tongue, Michael O’Donovan. Don’t you go wishing bad luck on us.”
“Sorry,” Mickey said. “I was just thinking.”
“Well, you can stop right now. Thinking like that can be dangerous.”
“Yeah, I guess you’re right. Have you given any thought to taking a vacation?”
“Hardly. I haven’t been on the job long enough to accrue a lot of vacation time. Why?”
“George and Mike have offered us the use of their cabin in Maggie Valley. We could take a long weekend up there very easily.”
“That sounds good. Any ideas as to when?”
“We could go in late October and see the fall colors, or wait until spring and see the spring flowers. For that matter, there’s always Christmas. George says the Christmas brunch at the famous Grove Park Inn in Asheville is quite an experience.”
