“And that would be?”
“We have an appointment with Mitch to have our wills executed. We’ve been talking about it for a while, and it’s important that we take care of it soon. I don’t like the thought of the state deciding what happens to all that money and property.”
“Babe, almost everything we have is in joint ownership.”
“Nevertheless, we have an appointment with Mitch, and we’re going to keep it.”
“Okay.”

CHRIS SPENT THE next day visiting the employment departments of local hospitals and filling out applications. To his surprise, he received a callback from one of them the following day and went for an initial interview. Over the course of the next week, he had two more callbacks and returned to one hospital for a complete preemployment physical.
When Mickey returned home from work that day, he found Chris stretched out in the upstairs swing.
“What’s the matter, babe?” he said. “You look kind of worn out.”
