Chapter 2

<p>After Sam left for 'work', his mother came into the room and sat on his bed. <br/><br/>"There he goes again." She mumbles to a photo of her, Sam and an unidentified man at an amusement park. "He's like you." She continued in a sad tone. <br/><br/>This is a picture of her husband when he was alive and when Sam was just a regular kid. When alive, her husband was a pilot in the Brazilian Air Force, one of the best, something that influenced Sam's dream of becoming a pilot. Although he was a soldier, he never mistreated Sam in a twisted attempt to turn him into a "real man". Instead, he created Sam based on the saying, "A strong man stands up for himself, a stronger man stands up for others." That's one of the many reasons why Sam becomes a Green Lantern. She remembers like it was yesterday when she heard what happened to Sam for him to become a Green Lantern. <br/><br/>[Flashback, Third POV] <br/><br/>March 19, 2005. At this time Sam was studying at a private school, he had no friends to talk to or a girlfriend to flirt with. His father's death greatly affected his personality, once outgoing and friendly, now introverted and reclusive. But, something changed on this day for Sam. And it all started when a classmate pulled a shotgun out of his backpack and started shooting anyone in his path. <br/><br/>Sam, like anyone else, started to run away in fear but the desperate screams of people and the cries of victims who were still alive made Sam stop. He didn't know why but his father's voice rang in his ears with every shot, saying the same thing: "A strong man stands up for himself, a stronger man stands up for others." And before he could properly process what he was doing, Sam was already running toward the gunfire, ignoring everyone and everything that told him to run. <br/><br/>Then it happened. <br/><br/>|Samuel Dias from Planet Earth, you have been chosen.| <br/><br/>The robotic voice sounded in Sam's mind and, soon after, a ring appeared in front of him. The ring glowed in emerald green light and gave off a sense of security. <br/><br/>|Samuel Dias from planet Earth, do you accept your call?| <br/><br/>Without thinking twice Sam put on the ring and used his powers to stop that madness. <br/><br/>It was on this day, when Sam proved great courage and a sense of duty, that he became worthy of being a Green Lantern. <br/><br/>[End of flashback] <br/><br/>After the incident Sam was taken to be trained by other Green Lanterns and when he returned, six months later, he immediately started to fulfill his duty as a Green Lanter. So, for three years, Sam has fought for justice and security for everyone, not just on Earth, but on other planets as well. Sometimes he came back home with the stupidest story one could imagine, and other times he looked defeated and weak after fighting an alien invasion alone, but he'd always got back up to keep fighting with his undying willpower. His mother knew she couldn't help him with his space cop duties, but as a mother, she made it her responsibility to make sure he has a place to go back to and a loving family to support him.</p>
