Chapter 39: Cruel Summer

Kate wouldn't cast another ritual again if she could help it. She had done more than enough ritual magic in her lifetime. She was done with all of that.

"No rituals," Kate said. "I just want to know how else the Fae blood would affect me."

"It varies from person to person," Margot told her. "There's usually an area of spell craft you'd naturally excel at and our ancestry only gives you a certain edge."

Kate couldn't know what that could be. She always had to work at casting. It had never been easy for her. She achieved success only after a lot of hard work.

Maybe the Fae blood had skipped her.

"She plays the viola beautifully," Theo offered. "She played so well that Death himself was moved to tears."

Margot looked interested. "I am more eager to hear you play now."

Kate blushed at the praise. "I'm really not that good."

"False modesty will not serve you well, Kate," Margot admonished her gently. "We would love to hear you play. Isn't that right, Edric?"
