He could let the Fire Dog gain points through battles and complete its evolution during the summer vacation.

As for the Fire Dog's Fierce Fire characteristic, he had tried to ask the Fire Dog to activate it this morning, but it couldn't be used 100% like the Fire Dog used a move.

He also did some research on characteristics.

The Alliance gives the rates to the spirit beast's characteristics span from Level E to S.

With a total of six levels.

This isn't judged based on usefulness but rather on how well the spirit beast characteristic is utilized in the battle.

It's somewhat similar to assessing the spirit beast's moves proficiency.
