I was desperately running towards the chaos. Knowing Ayumi, she will do her best to protect her pack. I felt Drews rage, the urgency to protect our mate boils inside of me. I glanced at my warriors; their eyes were determined to safeguard their Luna.
"Caleb, have you heard from the warriors patrolling? No one answering in the mind link." I asked Caleb through our link.
"Shit!" I furrowed my brows still running.
"Luna is holding them off with a barrier!" Hearing those words my world started crumbling. My Ayumi is putting herself in grave danger. I roared in anger putting more pressure on Drew's paws. Bolting towards the west border.
"You imbeciles! Protect your Luna at all costs!" Drew shouted in our mind link. I felt his intent of rampage. We took a deep breath and ran even faster. My warriors are barely catching up. The urgency to safeguard Ayumi gave me strength to run even harder.I tried to ask again.
"Can anyone tell me your status? How is your Luna?
But to make it worse no one is answering from Ayumi's group. My heart sank in fear. I kept calling Lawrence, the warrior who had fetched Ayumi to guide her to the rouge kids. I felt annoyed at myself. Why have I allowed Ayumi to go with them? Moon Goddess she is pregnant I should not let my guards down. I growl furiously.
As we are nearing the chaotic scene, we can hear a blast in the area. Not a simple blast but succeeding kind of Explosion. My chest is pounding hard from the daunt. Fearing something bad has happened to my Ayumi. I was scanning my eyes around. There were kids hiding in the bushes while others took shields from the trees. I saw wounded warriors lying on the ground, but I did not see Ayumi. Panic started to sit in, while I roamed my eyes around. Then I heard another blast. Me and the other warriors simultaneously looked at the blast direction.
I sprinted towards the direction of the blast; it was on top of the hill. The moment I have reach the top of it, I instantly saw my mates back. I felt relieved. But then I realized her hands were held in front of her, wielding a barrier against the rippling lightning. Her right feet was bent downwards; her left feet anchored in the ground. I could tell she was struggling. She was doing her best to protect the wounded warriors who were now lying on the ground. I ran towards her then I noticed Light traveling in the ground going to Ayumi.
Another ripple of lightning stricken her direction. It made a huge blast, she crossed her arms protecting herself from the impact, throwing her off the ground. I dashed towards my mate. Hastily transforming to my human form then catch her back before she could hit the ground. If I were late by a second, she could have gotten hurt.
My back took the impact of being thrown off while I hugged her on top of me Covering her from the collision. Then I saw my warriors dashed towards the attacker. I heard the roars and growls coming from them, biting, and throwing off the werewolves who were intruding our territory. Caleb then transformed into his human form then ran in the middle of the clearing, wielding an ice barrier using the moisture from the forest ground. All the leaves and the plants near him gradually withered while the barrier was building up.
I gently placed Ayumi on the ground. Holding her head gently. My heart was pounding in horror. I looked at her then glanced at her face and then the rest of her body. Checking every inch of her. I felt relieved.
"Thank God I was just in the right time." I exclaimed. I was heavily breathing.
She sighed in relief and then said: "I knew you would come. I am so glad I was able to hold them off!" I gently caressed her cheeks then placed a kiss on her forehead. I sighed relief after ensuring she was okay.
"You could have run away from this mess. Why? I told you to come back home if things go south. You could get hurt, love." I said worriedly.
"All these people might have been dead if I ran. I know you will come. I was trying to keep everyone safe." Ayumi explained. I kissed her forehead again.
I sighed.... I know Ayumi's personality. She does not back down to difficulties.
I stood up and offered a hand to her to stand up. She grabbed my hand then pulled herself towards me. I hugged her tightly while assessing Caleb and the warrior's direction. Caleb manages to place a barrier between us and the attacker. Caleb glanced in our direction his worried affect change to reassurance when she saw Ayumi standing next to me.
One of my warriors handed me shorts. I then wore it then shielded Ayumi with my back. I could feel she was peeking for a view from behind me. We stood there, evaluating the situation. Surprisingly, the ripples of lightning disappeared.
It was silent... Sinisterly silent for a while. We looked at each other. All the warriors, humans in wolf form, stood in alertness. Ready for any attack that might come.
Then I heard footsteps coming from the other side of the barrier. I can hear the noise of the twigs and leaves being stepped on. I narrowed my eyes, trying to figure out the situation. A familiar figure walking across the ice barrier. The figure touched the barrier then looked back to where he came from. Although the ice barrier gave us a hazy visual, I recognized the person who is now standing right across the barrier.
"Javier." I uttered in disbelief. It was my father's former Beta.
Then a shadow appeared right next to Beta Javier. I felt alarmed when I notice the resemblance of the woman to Tessa. Tessa who was my father's witch and mate. There was uncanny resemblance of Tessa and this woman who was wearing a black robe with a hood was glaring at Ayumi's direction. She slowly walks towards the ice barrier, her chestnut brown eyes beaming with rage, her shoulder length curled hair flowing with the freezing wind, and a sinister smile written all over her face.
She stared and me then leaned her head to take a glimpse of my mate whom I was trying to hide from anyone's sight. She smirked when her eyes met mine.
"You have managed to kill. Tessa, but I doubt you are strong enough to fight the entire Coven."
